  1. Yeah I have no idea what they pay their minions per hour but it seems a false economy not to spend 10 minutes to check under the bonnet for a DCC chip or a pick-up not touching a wheel and turn a non or poor runner into a more profitable item, but I guess if they didn't make good money anyway they wouldn't do it, and the buyers aren't complaining.
  2. The fact that they seem to send out DCC fitted locos not realising it (and costing them profit) shows they're either snowed under by the sheer amount of stuff arriving or their inspection process is a case of plonk it on a test track, mark as running/non-running, and then a detailed inspection of the box😂

Yeah, this is hopefully a case of that. The wrenns and the kit built loco don't appear till the last 4 pictures so the mendacious dealers may have missed them. The other trains I value at about 50 pounds max so 8 locos for a tenner more... Worse case scenario is I can sell them as garden ornaments and use Ebay's rather flattering AI descriptions "rustic steam engines from a bygone age still with the mudsplatter of endless toil. A great conversation piece "👍

That's what I'm hoping, fingers crossed. They look intact, just covered in dirt. EBay prices are ridiculous atm, so I was rather surprised my poverty bid won, which makes me wonder what I've missed😂

Got 3 "new" Wrenn locos, an 8f, A4 and castle, all bought in the 80s by my dad and not even run in, although how you prove MIB if you sell them I don't know, and 40 years in a box is unlikely to have done them much good. Giving them to my sisters anyway. Just bought an Wrenn 8f and possibly another in a job lot of 8 junkers so I'm hoping the mental eBay prices of the last week ( pre-christmas?) are going to hold up. If I get a minimum tenner a loco I should make 20 pounds but they really look like they've been dug up from the back garden. Haven't been able to face looking at them again since the purchase😂

I'm tempted to watch that video because I'm struggling to work out how you'd fail to get a triang/Hornby hall running properly.

I thought it was scam because I've never heard of it and even a search on Google only brought up one thread about it from 2018. So far I've done one survey but I'm thinking of starting an eBay madness thread on the forum😉

I've just been invited to join their focus group thingy which looks like an exclusive club to moan at them away from the normal forums. Anyone else in this because they're doing it wrong if they want me on the team😂

Ah, I didn't see the feedback thing. Can't say I like the new photo-zoom thing much.

I had it once last week which I presumed was a bug but it didn't come back. Probably due to them changing loads of stuff on there at the moment and it messing with people's browsers.
  11. Yes, having no returns isn't going to stop those people, but given the choice between you and someone else offering returns or free returns, you'd hope they'd go for the easier option.😉. Personally I haven't had the problem, but if someone contacted me and said "look this isn't as described" and it wasn't ,then I would accept a return. Unfortunately there are some buyers who just don't want to pay the going rate or even less than the going rate, and accepting returns just gives then an extra bargaining angle to get a discount especially with cheaper items. On the one hand you give them a full refund and return on an item they don't really want to return and risk bad feedback or you cut your losses and give them a discount.
  12. I don't accept returns because it attracts chancers. That said, I always send a message when I post something along the lines of "any problems just message me" so if there is a genuine problem they know they can approach me

I really feel sorry for overseas buyers. I probably sold just under 10% of my stuff abroad. It was extra hassle and worry but as long as they asked me for a quote before bidding i didn't mind doing it. Then you had the perfect storm of brexit and covid and the horror stories of various countries customs being deliberately arsey with everything, and Ebay stepped in with their system probably due to them being too big for customs to mess around with unlike the personal user. Personally GSP has killed any overseas bidders for me but EBay know a lot of sellers like the fact that once you get it to the UK hub, it's becomes their problem getting it to the customer. I have noticed a couple of overseas based buyers buying stuff off me but sending it to a UK address, so maybe thats a cheaper workaround if you know someone.
  15. Well a bit of research of the cat no. on the box says it dates from 1967-68 so an early one. 6 pick ups on the wheels, 7 gears on the power bogie alone,😂 traction tyres okay - think it was always going to work, but will strip it down for a service and then do a bit of restoration of the body. 11 quid you can't complain really even if it did turn out a total wreck. Cars sadly are going the way of other one time DIY repairable items - i.e you need a degree in electronics and computers to repair them or a 500 pound gadget to diagnose faults. Wouldn't be surprised if the likes of Hornby go that way with sealed bodies so they can fleece people even more.
  16. Not sure if this is a good buy but certainly a cheap buy. Had this on my impulse buy list and with the auction ending it would have been a crime not to offer the 11 pounds including postage for it. I always like the Jouef stuff as it's so ridiculously over engineered compared to other stuff on the market at the time and they sell well if they're working.. Arrived today, and a preliminary examination reveals a working motor and light.. 2 buffers missing but I have replacements. Will join the "oddities" fleet👍

I presume this is R@RE because I'm struggling otherwise to work out how this landfill candidate has attracted a 100 pound bid. 2-8-2(?) with ventilated cab

Yep. I was after a part which you can get it easily enough but as a tightwad there was no way I was paying 7 pounds for a tiny 5 gram part - plenty do but I have an aversion to being ripped off. Bought two non runners for 13 pounds inc!using postage so got my part. One of the locos had a perfect body, and a quick repair and i'd get 7 quid on a bad day or more likely a tenner. The other loco that I took the part from has a trashed body, but a working chassis with a good motor is probably a fiver bottom line so I get my part for a pound worse case scenario. I mean that is an extreme case because I'm only trying to save a couple a quid (would have paid a 4/5 pounds for the part) and a lot of people couldn't be @rsed with the hassle of looking around but you could quite easily pick up a trashed 9f in a job lot of parts for 30-40 pounds and sell-on the rest

Spares are just madness. Best to buy a job lot of parts with what you want and then re-sell the other bits

With the Hornby Turbomotive coming out for a gazillion pounds, it may be time to dust off that 1970's attempt you found in a car boot sale and make a killing. Actually, that gives me an idea... *stares at pile of Triang princess bodies* Inaccurate, but 200 pounds cheaper!

If it's Kay's Catalogue, can I pay 4.99 over 320 weeks? The one I saw was for sale for over a grand 5 years ago so will be interesting to see it's true level.
