  1. A bit of finest quality manganese steel from Edgar Allen's this evening - for those that know their poetry / hammer house of horror, that name may put you in mind of 'The Raven' by Edgar Allen Poe, or Vincent Price the horror film actor. Perhaps this one would have been better for Halloween - even a tenuous link to horror would have been better than that timber treatment analysis company advert (sorry Williams Specialised inspection Services!!!!) Enjoy the picture of the pointwork at Edinburgh Waverley 🙂
  2. Thanks Brian - That makes sense, I recall seeing a picture of a French loco with a 'winding handle' in the cab which allowed a lower gear to be selected for more arduous routes. :)
  3. An advert from Alsthom for you this evening - I wonder how the 'Mono motor' bogies worked? Was there a large motor between the axles with gearing to take the drive to wheel sets? Or was there a body mounted motor driving via cardan shafts (class 91 style)? Answers on a postcard as they say 🙂
  4. Hi SR71 - Glad to hear that you managed to organise a railway celebration! I had a similar problem with my 'landmark birthday' coinciding with the closed season for most heritage lines. I went for the East Lancs, as they are still running through November and I can get there by train & tram. I opted for their last 'Non Santa' weekend - I wish I had known that the brake coach was available for non Santa customers!!!! I like the sound of both a 'Travellers Fare memorial picnic (Thankyou for that one Nearholmer - a classic!!! ) and also Rogerzillas '80's experience' is tempting too - though missing the 'singing' football fans!! I hope you have a fantastic day SR71 - I'll let you know how mine goes later this month :)
  5. One for permanent way and S&T fans this evening - I like the emergency repair 'fishplate' for welded rail 🙂
  6. Anyone in the market for an underfloor wheel lathe this evening? This advert does not feature a dubious signal gantry!! - though I'm sure there are some more to come in my collection 🙂
  7. Oh , and another interesting signal gantry depicted in the background! Judging by the end of the rail being visible, it looks like that loco is about to fall off the rails 😲
  8. Good evening - Seems like something was a little lost in translation for this one - all we have is the legend 'Railway Materials' and we have to read lower down to see what sort of materials are on offer!
  9. Hi everyone - time for another advert A butt welder for long welded rail today 😃 and there is something 'flash Gordon' about the logo!
  10. I don't have any spooky 1960's adverts for Railway equipment so you will have to make do with this one I'm afraid 😃 It's possibly the dullest of all the ads! Sorry about that!
  11. Good evening all 🙂 Baker Bessemer up tonight with more wheels, wheel blanks and tyres. That axle mounted gearbox looks lovely - just right for my DMU project (if it were OO gauge of course!) Interesting - wasn't there a 'Bessemer Process' that was a way of making steel? I wonder if there is a connection? enjoy the ad 🙂
  12. Hello everyone - it's Wild Rolling Stock Equipment tonight with a graphic reminiscent of a 1960's news and current affairs programme?
  13. Hello everyone its time for another advert, tonight we have another battery for the connoisseurs of such things 🙂 There are some really nice lineside details in the photograph of a 'typical track circuit'
  14. Hello everyone - the photo in this advert puts me in mind of the Tyne Dock (must be the mention of the ore wagons) - I wonder how many 9F's you'd need to shift the 440 ore wagons up to Consett!
  15. Good evening everyone 🙂 An advert for wheelsets & gears from Taylor Bro's of Trafford Park for you to enjoy - I wonder if they had a rail connection from the famous Trafford Park railway system (was it run by the Manchester Ship Canal Company?)
  16. These are brilliant Grovenor, I consider myself a 'responsible applicant' so do you think I could send off for the illustrated catalogue as mentioned in the advert?😁
  17. It's a very interesting area to be working in Kev - I won't ask further 😉
  18. Fantastic - what a find, I would never have associated NiFe cells with a GWR steam loco before I saw that!
  19. With reference to one of the previous adverts - this one also features some non UK looking singalling in the background!
