  1. Look at pictures of Bristol Barrow Road overlooking the yard off a bridge front and rear of depot , giving a good idea of what happens including ash disposal . In the inefficient old railway everything came and went by rail to depots , spares in vans , brake blocks / wheel sets in open wagons , lubricating oil in drums , larger diesel depots in tankers , even the paperwork . In the efficient modern railway nothing goes by rail just creates more traffic on the roads .
  2. Warships got to Barry i've seen phots of them working out of the docks on block load trains (not bananas ) , probably been round the Vale on the way to Margam due to incidents on the main line . Caught a train from Patchway morning time warship hauled
  3. Canton had some intercity units about 76/77 that worked it along with the North and West and then single units on a Newport to Gloucester shuttle
  4. Interesting its somewhere i didn't visit very often and sidings always seemed rusty and that was the year a lot of South Wales traffic went that way with the Badminton line closed
  5. Your shot of the unit at Truro in the branch platform is a good record shot , showing what happened
  6. In your shot at Stroud the 46 is in the sidings which at this time were for engineers use only
  7. After the chaos of 1957 , summer saturday trains were limited to single engine loads on the Torquay line

  9. 4-6-0 's piloted over the S outh Devon banks thats why Manors were allocated NA and LA , summer saturdays had a booked King piloting a King , prairies banked the goods and also passengers out of Torquay
  10. Block trains of Vacuum fitted 24 tonne hoppers were used on the Mersthams for the M25 and Gatwick for new runway where possible to get maximum tonnage , other trains 21T and the reason the Warships were retained and these were some of their last workings banked out of Westbury to Warminster

  13. House coal concentration wagons would be used in the fitted heads of main line traffic due to so few in number with unbraked making up the bulk local workings probably marshalled adhoc . Many were used on aggregate flows from the early 1970's due to the shortage of fitted stock suitable for that traffic there was a mad dash to rebody and vacuum brake non fitted examples . The NE one has got the wrong brake handle . There were a few grey fitted ones about , i would stick it inside the brake van then it looks good .

  15. Ribblehead did have a down platform directly opposite the up platform but was demolished to build the longer stone loading sidings the previous quarry sidings were shorter
  16. Of course at Yeovil Junction the north side platform was not thro running until 26-03-1975
  17. Those compartments tended to be a bit draughty
  18. You can tell its ex Midland Railway by that van in the dock
  19. Non of the Settle to Carlisle stations had a footbridge except Appleby so all passengers had to use foot/barrow crossings , Giggleswick has a foot crossing only , there must be stations only accessable by foot crossing , Stogumber on the WSR being one .
  20. At St Davids pre MAS there were no lights but a bell would ring when " vehicles or train " was approaching from Central
  21. Bristol Temple Meads had a barrow crossing at the London end and the platforms were not in line , was mainly used by Royal Mail even tho they had their own bag conveyor to platforms
  22. Your probably right as they were at that end daytime , but ive seen them on Bath Road at weekends , but when did Old Oak become able to service diesels .
