  1. Bristol pullman set was serviced at Dr Days sidings but went to Bath Road for maitenance
  2. Years past all Reading to Pad got tickets checked without fail
  3. The A box was still a block post on the line from Yeovil South junction but not on the main line , connections worked from ground frames ! . Much like Honeybourne Station South a block post from West Loop but was a ground frame for the main line .
  4. South of Castle Cary and Langport West and Creech Junction passed to the Southern Region in 1952 hence SR rail post signals at virtually every location including a nice bracket at Maiden Newton . Under the penetrating lines working of trains and motive power was still Western Region until 1958 when the Southern Region took over completely . In the same way Bath Junction to Cole on the S&D was western Region but southern region was responsible for train working and motive power .
  5. Meant to say Dorchester to Weymouth was a Great Wastern line pure , the Wilts Somerset and Weymouth one of IKB enterprises
  6. The boat trains ran to Paddington until 1959 then the SR moved their Channel Island traffic from Southampton , rebuilt Weymouth Quay station with extra sidings at Weymouth Junction . The SR had running powers from Dorchester Junction but the Portland branch was joint
  7. There are some nice examples of that standing guard in the entrance / exit to Chippenham station
  8. Lateral resistance plates are also used on straight alignment , Yatton being an example as well as turnouts , Woodborough and Hawkeridge junction come to mind
  9. In 1972 at Temple Meads to get the 0630 to Exeter in rolls a Glasgow to Paignton relief all TSO' except brake , (no public booked thro trains from Scotland at that time ), about half full young lads and lassies , i got on first stop St Davids . Now those youngsters that went to the like of Paignton Torquay Newquay now go to Prestwick and fly to the Med , Tenerife etc .
  10. Holiday traffic still goes by train at least that what iv'e seen when at Gatwick , Manchester Airport etc
  11. Shaftesbury at least that will bring back the use of bank engines ! And brake engines . I think Tidmouth should be Tidworth .
  12. Out of Weymouth on heavy trains usually a pilot on the front and one banking to drop off at Bincombe box at the summit , 1965/66/67 more than likely to be hymeks
  13. I think the crossover is partially installed to be commisioned in the future
  14. Another example is at Worcester ShrubHill Station box where the first stop signal on the down at Wylds Lane controlling access to the thro siding has a fixed distant below (dont know why its still the same block section) . On the ops layout access to the rr loops either side of the station would be controlled by a dummy mounted either side the signal post at ground level or elevated on the post . To allow shunt moves to take place there would need to be an outer home far enough out with an advanced start . The main signal would need a calling on arm for locos ie running round , stock shunt or trains accessing an occupied platform . The non passenger lines require trap points . The motorail siding would use the most suitable access for vehicles , Newton Abbot and St Austell for example
  15. Wellington (Som) had an outer distant on the up at Beam Bridge coming down Whiteballs
