  1. You can feel the cold just looking at it ! C4988 can see an mgr running into Ratcliffe
  2. 142 143 150 thats your lot 153 158 not permitted beyond Radyr not that it prevented a 153 getting to Treherbert three years ago no restriction on the Rhymney
  3. Thats easy to get access , try the Butts branch viaduct thats like the hanging gardens of Babylon
  4. Didnt bank burning off stop in the early eighties when stubble burning was stopped . Definateley remember black burnt off banks at that time and there was a photograph in a magazine with a class 50 rounding the curves east of Somerton with the banks on fire
  5. Note its signalled onto the Wick train with a main stop arm and not a calling on and its got 3 BG's a lot of parcels news and mails off the first down train
  6. I reckon the 31 on the down main is on the Newcourt trip
  7. The railway must have lost acres of land to adjoining properties due to allowing banks and fencing being overgrown , this was very noticable when clearance for the GW electrification was taking place . Many gardens having twenty foot plus added plus pw cabins , with new fencing on very staggered alignements
  8. C4501 the bank engine siding for trains up to Ludgate Hill and connection to the Met J2627 a GWR or BR W repeater painted white as per LMR and not WR silver
  9. Fencing was always visible in the past and part of patrolling the line was checking the fencing . Of course no one patrols the line now (how does the NMT pick this up) and the fencing is not visible and overgrown if its there at all .
  10. There were several sea wall breaches nearer the line opening than now at Parsons tunnel and between Dawlish and The Warren that i know of and i think one in the 20th century . I suspect there wern't more due to the dedicated sea wall maintenance gangs , doing unimportant jobs like making sure the drainage flows were clear !
  11. Haldon down is the barrier to the south west of Exeter i don't think Brunel had any HS2 style TBM's available . You can throw in as many Atlantic weather systems as you want coming from the west , Dawlish is protected on the east coast of Devon !
  12. They were used on Holyheads and other workings , at Stafford late afternoon two up trains ran in close succession
  13. Stourport had an elevated railway due to topography with loco shed on the elavated section
  14. Fremington Quay was used for clay , rail to sea until the late sixties , its use after that was to weigh wagons from either Meeth or Petersmarland i forget which it was
  15. Ball clay went to Fowey the wagons had a yellow band around about six inches below the top of the wagon and branded as ball clay only and also steel highs for china stone
  16. Thanks , it totally confused me the perspective of the hills looked just like Bath hence first suggestion with a straight line fitting location at Bath goods .
  17. The Cotswolds in the back ground confused me its a bit further north than Bath . Looking closer on the far left is a single rail trap which i didnt notice before . Theres a lighting pole by the box which confused me for Bath plus that yard light cluster which looked familiar . It's lack of exhaust doesn't help , it's heading up the Golden Valley out of Stroud
  18. Theres a few niggly bits for me like the missing slip on left if diagrams are correct , when i first seen it the buildings on the right made me think Plymouth but nothing fits . I've seen lighting units like that before but cant think where . Looking forward to someone giving positive ID either confirm or disprove .
  19. The west line is the original Wycombe railway , south of Saunderton station (Saunderton is actually near Princes Risboro station) the original alignement is unused on the west side of the line with a redundant abutment over the A4010
  20. The reporting number is totally misleading . Its facing down on the up main line my take its just ran round and looking at the driver i would say he's waiting for that goods to clear before getting the dummy off to either go down main or down thro siding . A Frys Kenysham excursion ? i realise they usually ran round at Bathampton . The box roof is visible over the rear of the train with its three ventilaters .
  21. Stoke Gifford East the other end of the yard
  22. D7037 at Stoke West with a rather smart double bracket in front the loco with Stoke East outer pulled off , the top bracket with arm for the up goods and the lower one with large disc for the up reception . And a nice set of switch diamonds where the up Filton crosses the down main
