  1. I heard today that my two have had the chips fitted and have been run in successfully.
  2. This sounds great. I’d love to see the track plan
  3. I have just finished putting together three of these and painting the back scene and sides. I noted the comments about sealing the remaining wood ( back, underneath, surface. What would you recommend and would sealing the surface make it more difficult to put track, scenery, grass etc on it ? I do think I will need something to go across the back I have got to take a couple of weeks break now , which is fortunate as I have still to decide what to to put on them ( and for locos to arrive)
  4. Just spotted this. Did you manage to get any? I sometimes buy it ( and sadly don’t keep it ) when I am there. Usually just one copy in the newsagent I go into
  5. I am over there next week and will report back.
  6. Thanks for that link. Some great photos there. One of my interests is small islands and island railways. I saw on the website some details of the German lines in the North Sea including the amazing semi domestic ones ( still well used) on causeways to the islands near Sylt. We visited these a couple of years ago.
  7. I have started doing some modelling again in 009 after a near 30 year break. Amongst the reasons for stopping before were disenchantment with loco reliability, stalling on points and manual uncoupling. The spur to start again was reading about the Bachmann quarry Hunslets. I have two of these on order with DCC chips and a controller. I have put together three SMS baseboards ( 55x 20 each) and need to decide what to put on them. It will need to be very simple, industrial, Welsh, possibly a mine or crusher. Are there any threads here I should dig back and look at , or any new ideas, please. I don’t mind blocking off part of one end as a fiddle / way to the rest of the line but don’t want this at each end. I have bought a soldering iron and some brass tube and piano wire. Points etc to follow. Cheers
  8. Thanks for the advice given so far. I now have three smart baseboards, second coat of paint tomorrow. I may put a bit of strengthening wood at the back. I now need to decide what to do with them. I will ask the question in another thread, hopefully I will get more good advice.
  9. i have not decided where the track will be yet...so an overall covering quite appeals. Might still try cork I built the three modular boards today and gave them a primer coat on the inside ( white) Also cleared the shelving where thay are going to be situated...they fitted !
  10. Thanks. It is going to be 009 with Peco track so I’m happy to go down ballasting , weathering etc ( but will be asking some questions about this )
  11. Hi My SMS modular baseboards arrived today and I did a quick dry fit. File under successes ! Now I have two dilemmas - do I cover them in cork ? - do I leave the sides and back off for easier track laying and electrics work ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is my first time back for 30 odd years
  12. Nice. One of my all time favourite lines was the Clun Valley Tramway. Do you know it ? RM sometime around 1969
  13. Thanks for the tip I've just reserved an 009set track pack from my local model shop and will pick it up next week. I also spoke to the shop I've ordered the locos and they say they will run them in and test them It never occurred to me that the locos might not run perfectly Rob
  14. Hmmm! I’ve got two of these on order, with DCC chips to be fitted, hopefully arriving next week. They are part of my first return to modelling after about 30 years( indeed they are the reason I decided to get back into it ) I may not have anything to run them on for a while and even then it will just be a short straight. Whatdo you think I should do about the locos, when they come ?
  15. Hi there. When I was in Spain in December, I’m pretty sure there was a news story that the Murcia line had finally started running its AVE service. I am back there in a few weeks and will check
