  1. Looks very impressive, the layout is coming along very nicely. Do you mind if I ask what those orange things on the axles are?
  2. I hope so. I wonder if Brassmasters or Rumney Models will do a chassis too?
  3. Don't think that's quite fair. There was believed to be an issue with the coal rails which was mostly likely the lighting. There was an issue reported with the backsheet about the colour which is also most likely the lighting. I think some have been a bit quick to judge without actually getting the model.
  4. Thanks, I'll keep an eye for that railway memories book. I'm most interested in the Calder Valley Line after visiting Hebden Bridge last summer. It's a beautiful area and a model railway based on that place would be quite nice I think.
  5. Thanks, I've got the Queensbury which is quite good. No I haven't yet, are they quite good for this? I was intending to just get one book first before doing anything like that. If there is an equivalent of 'Through Limestone Hills', or something comprehensive like that on the Calder Valley or West Riding then that'd be ideal.
  6. Good news, really hope they have tooled for the Johnson smokebox door variant. Haven't looked forward to a new release like this in a long time, very promising
  7. Hello, I'm looking to research the former L&Y line in the Calder Valley. Can anyone recommend any books on that railway line or some good ones about the railways of the west riding. Ideally ones with information on traffic and the pre-grouping scene too.
  8. Hello, I'm researching the railways of the 30s in Devon, primarily the GWR, although the Southern does interest me as well. I was under the impression that coal was transferred to Kingswear from South Wales via ferry. However, in the book "The Great Western in South Devon" by Beck and Copsey there is a South Wales Coal Train pictured on page 82 at Exeter St Davids. Does anyone know specifically where it was going to, or any further details on it? The only coal train I can find in a working timetable was a Loco coal train, and presumably that wouldn't have been full of PO wagons, but Loco coal wagons. As a side note, on pages 80/81, there is a picture of Newton Abbot Engine Shed in the early 20s. This features a few wagons from various Railway companies, including an LNWR Loco coal wagon, does anyone know why these would have been there when the coal arrived into Devon via Kingswear? Any information, or if you can recommend any further sources is greatly appreciated.
  9. Add to that Stanier Composites and also a brake composite. The Hornby Stanier Period III stock is quite a limited range sadly.
  10. Are you doing a straight framed version?
  11. Thanks, I've acquired quite a few books on the line, including the ones mentioned. Just not seen much footage of it sadly. I think it features in Blue Pullman by BTF right?
  12. Although I prefer the look of the edwardian era the great thing about that line in that period was the mix of locomotives and traffic. I've been trying to find footage of that line for ages but there doesn't seem to be that much available. If you know where more footage of that line is available don't hesitate to let me know as I'm wanting to build a model on that area when I get the space.
  13. Very nice, how did you apply that boiler cladding dirt?
  14. What about in 4mm? Are the wagon axleboxes loose then? What is the best compensation to use in EM gauge?
  15. For Parkside GWR open wagons, what's the best way of adding springing/compensation?
  16. Oh happy day! Seemed like nobody wanted to make this one but our prayers have now been answered haha!
  17. Hello, I'm looking at converting my Bachmann L&Y Class 5 to EM gauge. I can't find any 17 spoke driving wheels that are 5'8". Do you know where I can get some?
  18. Thanks for all the comments so far, lots of really interesting suggestions which I will be giving a go in due course.
  19. Hello, I'm looking to buy some Slater's 4mm Midland wagons and I was wondering what the best way of adding compensation or spinging to these is? Also, if there's anything available to improve the underframe for a more finescale appearance?
  20. I really like Dent and Dent station. I'd like to see an article on the storage sidings to see in more detail how that works.
  21. Picked up mine, always enjoy MRJ but this is one of the best they've had out in a while.
  22. That's true, but you could just advertise it as being compatible with the existing rtr-locos that they already sell. Maybe include them as part of a trainset? One of the problems with the modern trainset is the price. If you want to improve value for money, perhaps include a few entry level kits? That way you essentially get two ways of enjoying the train set rather than just one. You get to build wagons and then see them run straight away. When I first got into model railways, I wasn't aware of all the kits that you could buy and I don't think most people are either, they assume everything is kind of bought off a shelf. This might help to broaden the horizons of people getting into train sets?
