  1. David I don't think the government was that mean, IIRC it was a limit of £50 in cash, so purchases in advance such as travel and package holiday accomodation wasn't restricted. The CC14178 were lovely, I had forgotten them. Did you or your parents get any of the very large tank wagons that could be seen around Calais 0-10-0T & 2-10-2T Lots of lovely memories in this thread Paul
  2. by 1973 it was repainted into a representation of SRly llivery http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/srcoaching/e178cbb7c Paul
  3. I didn't record the speed of the tippler at Grimethorpe when I photographed it, but the video looks good to me. Nice work. http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/grimethorpetippler Paul
  4. There were all sorts of mixtures of coil sizes and cradles on the BAA http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/baaespecially on the Lackenby Corby http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/baa/e67970f8 Paul
  5. Hi have you any evidence for TOPS plates with only the four figure number? I believe you will find all of the yellow TOPS plates had the five figure number. Before that the Esso number would have been on a small cast ownership plate. Paul
  6. Have the articles in Backtrack 2013 been mentioned about the working of Acton yard during the later BR period? Acton - Twilight of a Marshalling Yard 139 (March), 296 (May) Paul
  7. Transfer are already available from Cambridge Custom Transfer as Sheet BL9. http://www.cctrans.org.uk/products.htm They didn't have much lettering in later life http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/essobtankwagonvb Paul
  8. Here is one from 1983 http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brnpccs/e1186318e The GUV conversions were 1978 http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brnpccs/e13850b83but I don't know when the BGs were written. The info is probably in the main books by Keith Parkin or Hugh Longworth. Paul
  9. The first three and final two are probably Coil P http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brcoilp Coil C ex Pig irons in between. Paul
  10. Boyes shops are widely distributed (see their website) and if the central York one is representative they do a good range of Vallejo paints (and much else of modelling interest as well). Paul
  11. apologies, cannot edit on this tablet thingy. Why pay tax? Write to the revenue explaining what a lot of expense you went to taking the photos and they may be generous and say don,t pay tax so long as the income is small. Paul
  12. Really exciting for me. S1101s is almost certainly my first colour photo of rolling stock - so early I don't have an accurate date. I never dreamt it would reproduced as a rtr 50 years later. Feeling old! Paul 1733 is also from my photos, even down to the incorrect but correct PMV as the end door is sealed.
  13. But Dave the acorn one is incorrect for the type Bachman have modelled. They used the one at BUtterley which is the last photo in my collection, and this has the cantrail. The model phot when enlarged makes it appear they have modelled the cantrail fairly thinly. I am thousands of Kms from my copy of DMS drawing. Earlier there was mention that they had intended a 'bauxite' version. This was based on an inappropriate catalogue photo as the vac braked wagons are a very different animal with a different wheelbase. Paul (Not too independent on this one! See the photo from 1950s of the early livery version they are doing, even to the incorrect position of the tonnage!)
  14. you don't appear to be comparing models of the same wagon. The acorn kit is as the later through piped version and they don't appear to have the cantrail join which is very clear in many of my photos of unfitted wagons. I have collection of photos the piped wagons.Paul (from far away)
  15. There were some interesting wagons in Manchester Ring Roll Products when we visited nearly 30 years ago http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/manchesterringrollproducts This search throws up a few more of the photos I have taken in the estate. http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/?q=trafford%20park Paul
  16. Do you mean like this http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/axleboxes/e14f5c660? or a Harrison &Camm http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/axleboxes/e1016d974 Paul
  17. What are the axlebox covers supposed to be representing? Paul
  18. There always was something nasty about Western Region washing, coaches seen at Paddington in 1965 had bare metal for the lower sides. My photos, some of my first, aren't fit to publish.
  19. I am pretty confident that is an LNER one, the high torpedo vent is not something I have noticed on any BR built ones (shown to advantage here http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/lnerbrake/e2cccf219 ) Paul

    Sealink

That could be this train, it would have been early evening at Ayr http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brmark1/e6c322399 Paul
  21. Dear Andy Thanks, it crossed my mind that that was what Brian meant. I should have looked at my own photos (or Wikipedia!) Certainly a working that is very difficult to understand. Paul
  22. Brian Unfitted hoppers would have been long gone by July 1987. There had been late Vac brake conversions, that were not repainted. It is possible these are in engineers use, a number appear to have become ZTVs in the North East. Paul Bartlett
  23. My photos suggest they worked in packs on the Eastern Region until the early 1980s. A wagon that if you found one then you found several. Paul
