  1. Sorry if this was implied. I just meant loco's coming straight into a shed from the fiddle yard ie without having to traverse a point or 2, not to be used as a headshunt. I think all the plans I've done so far have included 2 lines for refuelling, usually 1 on the depot approach and the other a long Siding next to it to help service double headers ie class 20's and 31's without the need for uncoupling or fouling points. This also leaves a line free to access the sidings . Some of the plans can imply a run round on the fiddle yard entrance/exit.
  2. Second up This one I feel more relaxed about. Single fiddle road top left leads directly to the shed and fuelling roads (shown with sanding blocks). To the right is a kick back for access to the 4 stabling roads, again this can be reduced to 3. Paul
  3. I could be wrong but I think he meant.......ger!!? Paul
  4. First attempt this afternoon. The fiddle yard being 2 tracks top left. The right one a headshunt, the left one is on/off the depot leading down the back of the depot building. I've got it into my head engines wouldn't just arrive directly into the shed which is why I keep putting a kick back on arrival. I suppose it would depend on what you imagine comes beyond the fiddle yard really? Any way... Service shed is now at the bottom with fuel point on the same roads outside the building. Another kick back to access the 4 stabling sidings next to the fiddle yard. I'm trying to get a lot of sidings in. I could drop to 3 to make it more spacious but when I look at these types of sidings they seem to be closer together. True or wishful thinking? Please let me know what you think. I'll be back with another after I've got the kids from school. Paul
  5. Round two today. This is the third glue up I'm doing now. I'm leaving the middle clamp on just for my own satisfaction really as it's had 24hrs drying time! The cans are trying to keep the middle pressed down in the hope it will keep a little straightness to it. Not much in the way of distortion at the moment but we've got the others to glue up yet. I'll let this go off and glue the next posts this afternoon. In the mean time back to the track layout. Will post some ideas shortly. Paul
  6. Thanks for the heads up, I'll be there Paul
  7. There's an apology on their home page about an outage on their site. All okay now though. Paul
  8. Operating height should also be a consideration. Shouldn't need to lean over, even slightly when you're playing trains. Paul
  9. Here's one I made earlier! I glued the middle pillar to the roof sections. That was the piece that would have been the furthest from the roof. Whilst waiting for that to dry I started on the ends, it's going to be open at one end only. I'm not too worried about glue on the clear plastic as I want it to be frosted or atleast look older than when the depot is based. I could just paint it but thought I'd have a go with a sanding block or tamiya cement. You can see the long wall on the right. Perfectly straight! I'm going to try and glue more of the sides again now and probably leave it overnight to dry. Paul
  10. I think a triangular piece of wood would do it without resting on the baseboard. But if you have room for it why not Paul
  11. Quickly drawn and very crude! You just have the mounts dotted around your board without getting in your way . Paul
  12. The problem is I'd started removing stuff other parts from the sprues and cleaning them up. The rest of the kit looks quite good. There is a long wall which goes at the rear of the building (width) if required, that is perfectly straight! I'll post an update soon as I'm building that bit now. Paul
  13. Your layout is yours to do as you please. Run what you like, when you like. As long as you enjoy it that's the main thing. I personally think it would look better with a bit of colour as it takes me back to the early 90's at Bristol Temple Meads (and I'd add a brake van to the 08) but it's not my railway it's yours. I'm enjoying watching what your doing and it's not a gauge I model in. It's a reminder of days gone for me. Keep up the good work. Paul
  14. Last week I took the decision to not follow the instructions on the depot. The sides and roof come in 4 sections, these are built and added to the next sub assembly(4 in total). Because of the vast bend in the castings I couldn't see how these were going to fit together let alone straightening out so I glued all the sides together and all the roof sections together. The roof mouldings are very good and flat with very little clean up required. These were unintentionally left for weekend to harden up. I'm hoping that the roof will help the sides straighten out but I'm expecting the roof to curve up. I may have to resort to some internal strengthening anyway as the building will be removable so some sort of metal bar maybe? Paul
  15. How about this tablet holder? Its adjustable in 3 positions by you can add more if required. I'm sure it was about a tenner from IKEA but you get the idea. The base takes up less footprint and you can move it to different area's. The Bluetack is there as an extra position for my son's online lessons. Paul
  16. Could add an off cut inside the box to double up where you need the screws? Glue them in place first for extra stability. Paul
  17. What a lovely sound. You must be very pleased. Paul
  18. .....and bridge building Looking good George Paul
  19. Could you possibly mount it on some kind of trolly so you can move it around? That way you can get to things without it being in the way and adjust it to your preferred operational interest at that time. Just a thought. Paul
  20. who knows, maybe the b*gger it up fairies have a day off. Here's hoping. Paul
  21. That does look really good.....might have to hide one somewhere Paul
  22. Your kettle turned up unexpected? Taking time to boil (24 hrs later)! Paul
  23. Sorry to hear your selling SMS Mr P but not unexpected. Hope you get a quick sale so you can crack on with the next project. Glad your keeping Bench Road to play with. Looking forward to the next masterpiece, that'll probably be finished before I wire up tracks on Novice Lane! Paul
