  1. Gentlemen-----Have in some ways been rather pleased with the content of my October Hornby model rail mag.--purchased today. I.e the detailed review of several eagerly awaited new items including the S15 and others. How can it be that the official Hornby website states not just yet but the mags. have received, assessed and written detailed reviews from some weeks back as they composed their next mag.edition.I assume they take/receive a representative sample from an incoming shipment. This is not an intended sniper,s bullet--I would like to better understand this. Ed
  2. Mr Brightspark-----thank you for your kind response, regards, Ed
  3. John, Thank you for your info.Have got a Wilton body that has the cabside lining to match with the cut down tender lining style. Hopefully the Wilton body will fit on the new style loco chassis. e.g Bude/Exeter.
  4. Ref Mr Toboldly go,s last response to tender body swap--will you have a look at my last 2 pennoth on the Combe M. thread as an alternative approach. thanksEd
  5. Gentlemen, No progress yet on Combe Martin whilst I await delivery of the forthcoming Bude and rerun of Exeter. I now understand that the newer current West Country locos differ from the older versions in a number of ways--- Decoder now in the tender---a different electrical connection between loco and tender---the new tenders have different fastening points to unite chassis and top therefore swapping of tender bodies is not straightforward. I currently have Dorchester with old clasp arrangement between tender/loco and wish to do some mix and match when the new models arrive to achieve my endpoint.------Dorchester renamed Combe Martin with 4500 g cut down tender ----- Bude with high sided 4500 g tender ------Exeter with high sided 4500g tender To achieve this I plan to --pair Bude loco with Exeter tender --pair Exeter loco with Bude tender --put Combe M. loco body on Exeter loco chassis -- put Exeter loco body on Combe M/was Dorchester loco chassis--this pairing would have the old clasp coupling between loco/tender-the tender being a high sided 4500g type. Question--having not seen the new Hornby West C. models is the above the best way to achieve my end point ? thank you for any responses, regards, Ed
  6. Ref. retooled M.N/W.C tenders for sound etc--do you know if the tender upper body is interchangeable with the original form. I am planning to swap some tenders around ,particularly when Bude arrives.I want to put a high sided tender body on.I could then put the cut down on Combe Martin thanks, Ed
  7. Barry--I fitted the TCS chip in the M7 without having to remove the weight. It is a very small direct plug in minus any loom. Ed
  8. Barry----I have a TCS DP2X-UK on order for this job--I think it will fit minus any weight removal. Will keep you posted. Ed
  9. Gents-----does the TCS DP2X-UK easily fit into the tender minus the need to remove/reduce ballast weight? thank you, Ed
  10. Gentlemen----thank you for your time and effort in trying to help--much appreciated--there is no great rush--I intend to use the cut down tender body from the forthcoming Bude model + the Dorchester locol/tender base renamed as Combe Martin . I can then put the high sided 4500 gallon tender body on the Bude tender base. Both should then be right enough for my era/1954-58.I assume all the fittings will be compatible!! regards, Ed
  11. Graham, Thank you very much for your kind response and it goes a long way in answering my queries . Looking thro, the semgonline info and photos on the web the West Countries always seem to have red background plates so I was tending to be drawn that way? I enjoyed your Fisherton Saum layout at trhe Alexandra Palace show--very Southern/atmospheric. best regards, Ed Plant
  12. Hi gentlemen---I am about to purchase nameplates for the above loco but would like clarification on a few points first. Namely---was the nameplate background colour red? --- was there a shield? -- were scrolls in eviedence? I have trawled through the info. in place on RMWeb but cannot find answers to the above. Thank you in advance of any help forwarded. regards,Ed Plant
  13. Peter, That is the end I am interested in and of course trains enter from the east--what a twit I am! The pic you have kindly attached throws some light on the matter.I think the brick building on the right of the pic. leads immediately onto the station building in continuous form?Do you have a pic. from the outside? Also would this be the same in the 50,s? Thank you, Ed
  14. Gentlemen-----yet another query and request for help reference B.mth. C. station--this time it involves the down platform as you enter from the west. My impression of the station is limited spacewise such that I cannot model outside/roadside of the platform. Therefore no external canopy or any add on building in that area is possible.I have the platform and canopy with truss running lengthwise but I am having difficulty in deciding exactly how the platform should end roadside--was it part covered in running along below the canopy top, supported by girders + old style steel security fencing between the uprights? Pics of this area especially in the 50,s are few and far between. regards, Ed
  15. Hi gentlemen, Thanks Bob for helping me broadcast the pics--it was important for me to show what had been achieved on the back of all the help received from friends on RMWeb--in particular Frank and Paul.It will never be a strictly accurate model but it will be good enough hopefully to transport me back in time to those wonderful August holiday times on B.Central in the mid/late 1950,s. Peter--Bob has issued me with a stern warning reference signal box fidelity and I will attempt to do better in future---my limited dexterity /scratch building ability, the price/quality of the Midlands box at £8.30 and its broad similarity to the real thing determined the compromise.Future pics will also reveal the other side of the same signal box at B.West--need to get a splash of green on and some signage. Thank you again for your help--may meet up one day at an RMWeb event--Bob and I are travelling to Bournemouth (day trip on the railway) on the 13th of May to savour Bournemouth,s (railway etc) delights. regards, Ed ps I tried to send the pics myself but the RMWeb limitation (or probably my limitation) prevented this.
  16. ps --my choice was based on Bachmann coming out with their OO version of the N gauge model!!! Ed
  17. ORIGINAL MERCHANT NAVY LOCO DATA.xlsxORIGINAL MERCHANT NAVY LOCOS FITTING THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS.docx Hi John--I agree that if you want to run both rebuilt and original M.N.s side by side (as I do) you are better doing this via a choice of different locos. My preference would be to run both types over the period 1956-59 and it is easy enough to work this out given all the information previously made available. However for maximum appeal from the wider interested modelling public covering the 30 original locos and their lifespans in that form (the extremes being 1941 to 1959 ) you need to look elsewhere----On average at least 50% of the locos time was spent in later modified form with different cab and standard smoke deflectors,These looked quite different to the later more standardised form. This does not cover the many other mods.involved. Good news indeed that it will finally become available. For my own purposes I attempted to develop a condensed file to assist in the correct choice of loco--the data came from different (more knowledgeable )sources .It may be of interest to some ---- please refer to the attached regards, Ed ps hope I have succeeded with the attachments
  18. Graham-----thankyou for the most interesting news.Do you know if the first series engines will be available in later modified form--e.g. cab/ later smoke deflectors etc so that they would fit into the 1950,s scene? Thankyou--hope to see you and your Fisherton Sarum at the Alexandra Palace 28-3--I think I will find it most interesting.
  19. Hi gentlemen, Thank you very much for your time, effort and undoubted help--I now have more info. than I ever thought of getting. I am just about ready now to put in Bournemouth Central down platform canopies, the gantry (scratch built I think--is their a source of suitable x type truss /if not will use the open version) and install the O scale York Modelmakers D110 platform canopy brackets--these really look the part. I have my reduced version of the train shed + platforms in place.I will post some pics when done--with the needed help of a friend!! My interest in the rear of the shed has a lot to do with limited loco storage as determined by my reduced layout design--I may now use this to relieve the situation. My overall interest stems from numerous first 2 weeks in August hols in the 1950,s and lots of wonderful memories, especially of B.Central--however I have modelled West station (which I unfortunately never visited at that time) in more detail. If of interest will provide pics/video--with help from 250 Bob. Frank,Paul and others, many thanks for your kind help, regards,Ed
  20. sorry chaps--not for the first time I have managed to send an unfinished communication!!!!! Thank you for sharing this info with me and others. Question please----am just finishing off B Central down platform opposite the shed---- what was the make up of the vertical signal gantry support--truss?Cannot fin a decent picture. Also on a shed track plan I noticed tracks leading out of the rear of the loco shed and therefore under one of the bridge arches--was this used in the 1950,s? best regards, Ed Plant
  21. Hi gentlemen---have trawled through the preceding and have really enjoyed it--It is very relevent to me as I am developing B.West/Central etc. What with accurate local info. and all the wonderfull attachments (flicker/the two lads account etc) it paints a very broad and interesting picture of the past.
  22. Graham---one further query---quote--in 1950 30823-30827 had "Southern"5000 gallon--what do you mean by Southern? Urie flared or the flat sided--were the latter Maunsell build? thanks, Ed
  23. ALSO----Thankyou to all who offered help on both the S15 and Combe Martin queries, happy christmas, Ed
  24. Graham --thankyou for your detailed response ref S15 tenders--it is now much clearer. happy christmas, Ed
