  4. I've wandered about most of the periphery of the shopping parts of Torquay, and only found games and radio-control emporia. Paignton Model Shop is only a bus-ride away and does a reasonable job.
  5. The loco certainly bears a more than adequate resemblance to that used at Morden South Express Dairy. The signalman at St Helier, the controlling signalbox, assured me it would not pull the skin off the proverbial rice-pudding, which does seem apposite for a dairy!
  6. Evenin' all Happy Birthday to Andy. Great to see Gordon asserting common sense. As part of Sherry's rehab we took the bus down into Torquay and wandered around the shops a bit. Not much money spent, but I got a PAYG SIM for my phone, as the French contract has a lmited cover here. Then we wandered back to the harbour, found a cafe selling wine, and sat in the sun. Sherry received an email with a two-for-one dinner offer at Prezzo, Italian eatery, so that sorted dinner. Meal was excellent, we are home and chilling. Hope your week going well.
  7. Yes, 4-4-0s have an inherent balance about them that is satisfying. Billinton's B2 and B4 for the LBSCR had it in spades - but Billinton had been Assistant to Samuel Johnson at Derby, so no surprise. I think Maunsell's Schools were Britain's most powerful 4-4-0s - but they were much more modern and do not compare to those Gilbert has identified.
  8. And, were the model to be delayed again, or even cancelled, would you die in a ditch? I suggest not. We are luckier than ever before in the wide range of cracking RTR models announced on all sides. If some good intentions by their promoters get frustrated by circumstances, patience remains a virtue.

  10. Oh - 4771! I thought 60800 was a rather long way off! This metric vs Imperial thing is a beggar!
  11. Truth stranger than fiction! ERs has a Leopard who has changed his spots - or at least his avatar!
  12. Morning all Recovering Sherry ticked a couple of boxes yesterday, taking the jamjar for a short drive - alone - and later accompanying me on a walk to the Buccaneer, where I had a couple pints of Tribute, while she surprised herself enjoying Diet Coke. I had already agreed to cook dinner. I had made less of a success cooking a simple lunch, managing to burn my hand, which was a bit silly, really. Today I need to get my passport renewal application finished and in the post, otherwise I shall have to wait longer before returning home, currently scheduled for the first week in May. Lightengine - recent events by others in my life suggest stress can bring on terrifying heart symptoms. I recall your lady had a nasty experience a while back and no doubt the two things are very much related. Hard to know how to help her relax. I hope everyone has a good week.

  16. Sadly rather more prosaic. Sherry currently has a nice bathroom, created in 2006 when the flats were converted, but it has a shower over the bath. Since she hopes to have a hip replacement this year, she will be unable to step into the bath for many weeks post-op. A walk-in shower is required instead.
  17. And, of course, as a relatively newly-wed, I certainly don't need erotic anything....... Cue hollow laughter when Sherry reads that! I meant to mention that as part of my stewarding duty last night I got a seat for the play, issued at the last minute, so at the end of a row. And the lady next to me was introduced by Jackie as being mother to the guy who we expect to convert Sherry's bathroom this Summer. Apparently she acts, and has had roles in Corrie, Emmerdale, The Bill etc, yet was as effusive as anyone about the acting she saw on stage last night. Hard not to enjoy company like that.
  18. won plenty of ladies with my charms, but
  19. Morning All I got my hair cut by Chloe in St Marychurch, and Sherry seemed quite pleased with the result. En route I bumped into a couple of Sherry's friends. Keith had a prostate op similar to mine - but was kept waiting for several months with a catheter in place! Last evening we were supposed to be Front of House at the Little Theatre - actually a deconsecrated church - but Sherry, while improved, was certainly not up to standing around on duty, so I went alone. Jackie, a rather elegant copper's widow, picked me up in her mini, which is good for my image, as she is a few years younger and blonde! The Manager for the night was Reg, recently 80 but very sprightly and with a great sense of humour, and he posted me to serve pre-booked tickets as patrons arrived. These included one or two acquaintances, including a retired tax inspector and railway enthusiast who also writes erotic literature. During the interval I was able to chat to his wife, who is recovering from varicose vein surgery, and must not sit around for too long. Hence she was hopping from leg to leg as we talked, but assured me she did not need the loo! The performance - Charley's Aunt - was excellent, despite several of the key roles being performed by Tadpoles - junior society members, who were simply outstanding. With over 200 in the house, it was a great success - as has the whole run been, with all programmes sold by Friday. Today we will try to get a bit of a toddle as part of Sherry's recovery programme, and expect to take in the Grand Prix. It's a lovely morning, so being out and about is tempting, but moderation will be essential. Hope Sunday suits you.
  20. Ian - (RH) - I am intrigued that the Gosport poster shows that Queen Victoria's funeral train went to Waterloo. If so, why would it have had to reverse at Fareham, and then be hauled by the LBSCR? Obviously twaddle, as it went to Victoria - where else would you direct such a train?
