  1. There are some pics of it in plain silver and being repainted to the grey. Colour photos are not at all common, but I seem to recall a photo where the engine was a backdrop for a group of gentlemen with the loco very definitely in silver and with a cycling lion crest visible. Although it is possible that I’m making that up… as always, I have no knowledge of the true copyright for the attached images, so if the copyright holder wishes them credited or removed, I’m only too happy to do so Edit - found a b+w photo of the image I was talking about in Kevin Robertson’s book. The colour in it is obviously a tad ambiguous, but I think it gleams a bit more than the grey paint it most often carried, which was very dull in finish. I think that there is reasonable grounds to base the sample model that Jenny had as being an ex-works ‘leader’.
  2. No, it’s a replacement from the retailer
  3. Sorry to say that my replacement model has its chimney missing and glue all over the place. Sent back for a refund - I’ll play the pre-owned market for one in the future
  4. My replacement model has just been dispatched from Kernow - let’s see how this one does…
  5. The real thing used wheels more or less identical to the Q1s, rather than the Pacifics. I agree that the light is showing through a lot on them, but it could just be that we are used to seeing BFB wheels with steam loco frames behind them, rather than a bogie arrangement. my own wish is that they sort that coal out. Scale wise, some of those lumps are about as big as an adult human, which I’m pretty sure wouldn’t be allowed :)
  6. Superb place, superb event, superb layouts. Not much more to be added :)
  7. Regrettably, mine was missing its left front buffer beam steps (not in the box anywhere), so back it goes. however, Kernow have been great and a return has already been arranged. So a replacement should be on the way soon
  8. Think extreme e from Sardinia is on this weekend too
  9. Far too many to mention, but ill try: -Lorry challenge -build a stretch limousine -Anne Hathaways cottage -build an ambulance -Vietnam on bikes -journey across Madagascar (GT) -mid engined supercar for £10k -space shuttle robin reliant there are probably more, but those are the ones that spring to mind immediately
  10. Kernow has just charged my credit card for 1501. So we shall see if it arrives by the weekend!
  11. Darn - well, here is to hoping that the next generation of the decoders offer a suitable decrease in size to allow for the ease of fitting in a wider array of models thank you for checking
  12. Jenny Kirk’s video fitting the Hornby hm7000 decoders into uncooperative sizes of loco video has got me thinking, has anyone tried fitting one of their Next18 decoders into these? From the photos I’ve seen, it might just squeak in if the speaker and stay alive sockets are removed
  13. Great review Jenny. Just a quick question - did you get a chance to try Hornby’s Bluetooth nxt18 decoder for size? I’m getting the loco and I’d be very interested to have to bluetoothed if possible :)
  14. Was about to say basically this, but you got in first. I have used several of these chips for what must be a few dozen hours at this point and there has been not so much as a blip from any of them. They work fine on DC power provided that the voltage is constant (I.e. you don’t try to drive the loco using the DC controller)
  15. In fairness, I did caveat my comment with a large number of ‘im probably wrong’ headers :) just south of £200 is where larger 009 locos seem to be now. The L&B locos, the Maknline hunslets etc. so I’m hopeful that an RRP below £200 is possible, but that it won’t be far below £200
  16. I’m actually kind of impressed that it took me from 14th August to today to cave in and buy this one :) tis on the way :)
  17. Just by dead reckoning, the announced spec and supposition from the outside, I would think it reasonable that the prices would be approximately those of the Penhryn ‘ladies’ from Bachmann
  18. Edge

    LMS 10000

I can vaguely see a possibility of a premium Hornby Dublo version if DP1 turns out to be a success, but that’s a shot in the dark from me tbh rather than any actual knowledge
  19. Picked up the latest model rail in walsall yesterday. Won’t reproduce the news spread here for obvious reasons, but the loco looks sensational. Easily the equal of models like the Penhryn mainline hunslets. BR Blue, Ochre and Cambrian black for me please. I like weird liveries :) (obviously not all on the same loco 😜) hell, if there is a freelance southern railway livery on the cards, I’ll grab one of those too
  20. I’ll just leave this here to ruin people’s childhood memories :)
  21. ‘Omaha’ has just been announced for the SVR steam gala. Think I may have to go for that if it’s produced in model form :) although I’m a sucker for a made up livery, so one in BR Black will be mighty tempting too
  22. Hornby bluetooth decoders are bigger than most others, so there will be no problem fitting any other manufacturer’s products. Whilst Hornby does seem to have made some good will errors, I do think that there is a current tendency for people to almost seek out reasons to not like what they have done. The ease of sound installation in the P2 is nothing short of superb and worthy of applause in my view
  23. Hence why my three latest purchases are 1501, Prince of Wales and Railmotor 93 :)
  24. I’ve decided to ultimately model a preserved railway. Then I can claim that anything goes :)
  25. Will be getting one of these, which one will of course depend upon what variants are produced
