  1. Also on show on Friday was the weathering to the Hammersmith Road bridge - done by Keith And some more SR stock arrived!
  2. Last Friday was a running session and the Southern Railway was well represented ..............
  3. Hello Martin Thanks for your comments. Certainly such a project would be difficult outside a club and this project is a great advert for clubs in general and Twickenham MRC in particular. Core team members have taken the lead in various areas ... Grant in prototype research, Peter in technical developments, Pat in signalling, Keith and Steve in electrics, Ewen in track and Graham just makes things work properly............... a real team effort. But 2016 sees a new challenge .......... the Addison Road team are taking the layout to its first outside exhibition ... and it's a BIG one! May 6th 2016 will see us at the 2016 ALSRM 'READING SHOW' ................ but we'll need to enlarge the team in order to make that final push ........... so NEW MEMBERS welcome .... why not come along to our Open Day on July 25th and consider joining us! Live too far away to contribute??? Don't believe it! One of our group members lives in Chicago, USA!
  4. It's mid-May and all efforts are being made to launch the layout on an unsuspecting public at the club's OPEN DAY on July 25th - see RMweb diary. So, quite a lot has been going on behind the scenes since we last posted.......... the extra add-on scenery only boards have meant a new mounting for the control panel behind the new backscene.......... Brandon has cut down the baseboard bolts on his lathe ............. so setting up and taking down will be quicker now Clive has brought along his new Siphon H ...
  5. Hello John Thanks for your comments. The ones in the prototype photo carry sulphuric acid. I think yellow on China Rail signifies dangerous cargo. I'm looking forward to seeing the layout in action too!! The layout can only be set up at exhibitions or if I hire the local church hall! I hope to have more photos to post soon.... watch this space!
  6. Am attending the SW Herts exhibition this weekend doing a demo stand ............ have built this display specially .........
  7. Twickenham MRC's recent support of a model railway weekend at Kempton Steam Museum was a great success.......... the museum has now produced a promo video which features all four club layouts we sent along... Northwick the club's current OO exhibition layout, two member's layouts and our 'Drive-a-train' for younger visitors.
  8. Here is the latest 1950s style tenement. It's different to the other two as it has flats rather than shops on the ground floor.... it's about 80% finished .....it needs some room interiors and lights And here it is in situ on scenic board #1 .... it's the one furthest away at the back.....
  9. Hi Al Thanks for that - I'm looking forward to seeing it running too!!
  10. Two more days work and progress has been slow as ever............ Here is the latest 1980s style building (with posh shops) which we last saw a few weeks back ..... hopefully you will notice that the r/h 2/3rds of the frontage is weathered ........... hope to finish this tomorrow before going to work...
  11. Whilst this is my personal project I am receiving great support and help from various modelling friends. Here is a building under construction (in both senses of the phrase) being made by Peter Morgan ....
  12. One of the troubles with the 1950s tenements is the open doorways which require internal details in the hallway. Here is a staircase for the latest tenement ..
  13. I'll get back to that 1980s/90s tenement later ............. Sometimes I feel I need to take 'before and after' photos of a modelling day .... just to prove to myself that I've made any progress! Here's the latest 1950s tenement at 9am today ..... Hopefully some progress to show later
  14. Regret couldn't make this event, but have seen some photos of the Northwick 'upgrade' - a great advertisement for Twickenham & District MRC and clubs in general!

  16. BREAKING NEWS! TDMRC are supporting KEMPTON STEAM MUSEUM at their annual Model Railway Weekend on April 18/19th 2015. Kempton Steam Museum is housed in the old Thames Waster Pumping Station at Kempton and has the world's largest triple expansion steam engine ... PLUS it now has a working 2ft gauge STEAM narrow gauge railway on site. On April 18/19 the steam engine will be steamed regularly (last steaming 3pm) and the ng railway will be offering STEAM rides (adults £2, child £1)......... There will also be a 16mm scale (32mm gauge) layout, display of O gauge models, display of railway memorabilia and vintage DINKY TOYS. Here is a photo of NORTHWICK, one of the OO gauge layouts TDMRC will be showing ... More details at www.kemptonsteam.org and www.tdmrc.org.uk Venue - Kempton Steam Museum, Snakey Lane, Feltham, TW13 6XH Times - 10.30 to 4pm both days Admission - £7 , concessions £6 , under 16s FREE
  17. Having reduced my work hours to 32 I am now able to do the same amount of modelling without being quite so manic. This week I spent a day trying to edit down the 2300 stil photos I took in china ..... in addition to the 7 hours of video! I have also been doing various bits and pieces with the tenements .......... here is the latest ...... 1980s/90s style with posh shops underneath .... this will be positioned next to the hotel hence the posh shops...
  18. You wanted BLUE DIESELS! We are giving you BLUE DIESELS! Well ONE at least! And we have one of these too........... And if you want one of these .... we've got one of these as well!
  19. OK .... things are moving on big time with the scenery now. One of the biggest issues with any model display (not just model railways) is the backscene and the link between the 3D modelling and the 2D backscene. Our resident computer expert, Grant, has been working on this issue virtually (pun intended!) from day one and recently he brought along some mock-ups to show us his progress.... At one end of the layout the tracks disappear under the Hammersmith Road Bridge ... Here is the basic first draft of the Hammersmith Road Bridge ......Keith's been working on this............... Grant has been busy printing off Kensington Crescent with forced perspective........this runs off the Hammersmith Road Bridge and curves into the backscene...... That Thorneycroft bus will need detailing - and weathering! And two weeks later ........... Keith has added some more detail ..............
  20. To be honest I didn't quite understand the science bit but I take your point. Black is the only suitable spray paint I had handy ... to be honest I think they are more weathered in reality than the photo shows, but I will work on them more A/C units are Bachmann OO ones filed down to HO - YES, filed down from OO to HO!!! I've bought about 120 of them PAul
  21. To be absolutely honest off the top of my head I can't remember ..... will check later but I think it's 13. The one shown in my last post is actually (in effect) low relief in the sense that whilst it is 98% full depth it sits against a backscene and so has only one 'face'. There are four fully 3D blocks and nine low-relief ones with only one face .... I think! This next photo (below) was taken in Dec last year and shows the building I've just 'finished' in situ against the (white) backscene that will hide the fiddle yard ..... in front of it are two of the then embryonic fully 3d blocks I mentioned.
  22. Still not 100% back into modelling a week after my China trip - jet lag and old age! Am bored with making interiors so am fitting more security bars and weathering. Have finally (nearly) finished the first of the non-balconied (1970/80s) tenements ..... Here is the (nearly) finished item head on ... photographed outside under natural light... And on a random baseboard just to show how it will look on the layout
