  1. Very hot in the shed .... not much progress. I was unhappy with the taxi waiting by the level crossing and so spent some time on it.. I painted the interior and added a driver..... the driver is very difficult to see unless you look at the car side on at eye level and you can then see him in silhouette
  2. As usual there are conflicting issues pulling us in opposite directions.................. Judging by the OP's other posts I think we can all agree that on balance he should not have bought these. Could he have bought items better suited to his purpose - YES, most definitely. Will he need advice/help to make these points suit his purpose - In my opinion , YES On the other hand he is on a limited budget - should he put these in the bin and buy better ? That's his choice. My advice - visit your local club with the points and let an experienced modeller inspect them - I assume these are not 'NEW/MINT' and have been re-cycled from a layout. They were not great when they were new/mint so may be far less suitable if they have been used and lifted.
  3. It really depends what you mean by compatible? Assuming that your Hornby track is reasonably modern (last 35 years or so) then it will be code 100 and so is Graham Farish and so in that sense they will be comapatible. Original Graham Farish ( circa 1963) was dead frog. Huge chunks of plastic in the frog area. Later they developed LIVEWAY live frog points. All metal frogs. Which are yours?
  4. I've rarely seen a showcase full of coaches and wagons! Mine certainly isn't!!
  5. A big THANK YOU to all of you who came along to our open day - hopefully some/many of you will want to join us! If so please remember that this coming Friday July 27th is our AGM - so not a good night to come down!
  6. Compare this new version with the original we used at Bristol ... fewer but bigger photos, less text but larger print size. In short - easier to read! In this case - LESS IS MORE!
  7. I have just collected our new promo sheets which will fit on our fiddle yard screens - one each end.
  8. More progress on grass - 3 out of 4 scenic boards now 'done' .................. I re-did this board to change the colour of the grass .... the first attempt was far too green ... this is as 'dead' as I can make it.
  9. This layout thread has 50 followers on RMweb - which makes it the TDMRC's most followed layout on this forum - and it hasn't even been to one exhibition yet! It's first REAL showing will be at our open day this Saturday - hoping to meet some of our RMwebbers at the weekend! If you're reading this and planning to come along please introduce yourself to the team.
  10. As a Twickenham MRC 'Country Member' I usually only visit once or twice a year and so I'm also looking forward to visiting in order to see progress on layouts and re-kindle old friendships. I think I may have been give a role in 'meeting and greeting' ................. Hoping to meet some/many of you there!
  11. As a long time Twickenham MRC member, I can remember the early days when this layout was first built and it was nowhere near the standard you see today. A few years ago a new team took over the project at a time when it was past its best and that new team have extended and refurbished the layout beyond the committee's wildest dreams. Nowadays I visit the club very rarely and so I am looking forward to seeing this layout running at our club open day this Saturday, July 21st 10am to 4pm. For full details of all the exciting things we'll have on show please visit our website www.tdmrc.org.uk
  12. I'm embarrassed by the lack of progress lately - partly to do with a 8 day holiday in Croatia and partly because the shed has been so hot that work has impossible. Got into the shed today at 6.30am and it cool enough to make some progress . Have been working on the level crossing area with static grass.... When there's no steam train the photographer sits in his car and waits When a steam train approaches he's out taking photos
  13. If a problem arises with the layout, the AR group are not afraid to go back and re-do things. So it is with the 4th rail on parts of the layout. The original version gave some problems especially in the recent hot weather when expansion caused breakages and so the group have gone back and are in process of upgrading it all.
  14. Just a quick update about our open day on July 21st. Our 7mm layout, ADDISON ROAD, which is featured in this month's BRM was running at last year's open day and will have a static display at this year's event. This means that our team will have more time to do what they like doing most - chatting about the layout! Why not come down and meet the team in person? www.tdmrc.org.uk
  15. Just a quick update to say that the Addison Road group will be having a static display at Twickenham MRC's open day on July 21st. We were running last year and this year the spotlight turns to 4mm and 2mm and so we will have time to relax and more time to chat. So why not come down and meet the team. Full details here www.tdmrc.org.uk
  16. I changed the title/theme of this question slightly - all help gratefully received.
  17. Just let everyone know that this exciting new project will be running at Twickenham MRC's open day on July 21st............. Twickenham MRC have a very positive attitude towards D&E modelling and wanted to attract new members to the club by building a privatisation era layout ........... Eastgate is the result! And in the future, the more D&E modellers we attract the bigger Eastgate can grow! And so, if you like what you see, please come down on July 21st and see the layout in the flesh. Open day details are on our website www.tdmrc.org.uk
  18. He simply painted one side of his BR mk's in green and the other side in choc & cream! And he always repainted them if the theme changed again .... and so the coaches got wider and wider as the number of coats of paint increased. Members joked that eventually they would be out of gauge!
  19. Slightly off topic because the person in question was not a teenager, but in the 1970's Twickenham club had a big roundy roundy OO portable layout that was up and running most club nights. There was one member who always turned up early, hogged the layout but always went home before it was time to put the layout away. He always hogged the layout with his rake of Tri-ang mk1's. So the committee thought up a plan to stop him hogging the layout every week. Rather than every Friday being 'general running' some Fridays would be designated as GWR or SR (the two most popular companies in the club) But it didn't stop him................
  20. . Yes, you read that correctly! He had cut a Lima HO class 33 into pieces , glued pieces of plasticard in place to increase the dimensions and then glued all the bits back together and repainted it. He therefore made a OO version of the class 33 before Lima saw the error of their ways and introduced their own OO range.
  21. Ten years ago l was raising money for Twickenham Model Railway Club by selling donated items on eBay. Some items were donated by the highly talented leader of our club's 0 gauge layout. One item dated back to his teenage years, it was an original LIMA HO gauge green class 33 converted into....
  22. I am preparing a piece on the use of Fleischmann profi couplings but I have only HO coaches. Can someone please confirm that they can be used with British OO coaches
  23. TBH this thread sounds like REAL modelling!
