  1. Needless to say if anyone has something suitable for sale please let me know.
  2. I agree with you to a great extent ... I had just hoped that no-one would notice this anomaly. I think the VW passat was built in China and I think Herpa or Busch made one - back in the day! I started a thread on RMweb to source these but got no luck. The trouble is that I would want 5-8 of them and any collector would only probably have one or two. The thread is here .... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/121141-wanted-wiking-ho-vw-passat-1980s-style/?hl=passat Needless to say that as a non-driver a lot of this went over my head!
  3. Thank you all for your input but I have decided that we will go with #1 simply because there is more room to develop a scene, to make it a real scenic feature rather than just a isolated hut.
  4. I agree Hi Chris, Yes thinking of having three tress surrounding the building - sending off for some now. Paul
  5. The hut is 90% finished, just needs a chimney stack and maybe some toning of the brick colour. Total cost so far - ZERO! There are two possible locations............... Here .................. Or here ...............
  6. Here's the nearly finished version - just needs a chimney stack. Just considering where to put it. Maybe here ..... Or here .....
  7. Many thanks, very helpful. Have sent them in email. Paul
  8. Hi I have been tasked to sell some old BUHLER motors which have been donated to Twickenham MRC. They were donated by the widow of a member but she/we have no knowledge of these other than her husband had planned to use them in a Gauge O model. We know nothing - can anyone give us the catalogue number? On an easier note , are we correct in thinking these are 12v DC? Thanks for any help
  9. Open Day update! There will be three 'proper' OO layouts operating on the day and our well known 'Drive-A-Train' layout for our younger visitors. TWICKENHAM JUNCTION - our brand new continuous run exhibition layout! A fictional version of the old TWICKENHAM station as if it had not been 'modernised' after WW2. This will be its first public showing as a working layout. EASTGATE - our new privatisation era D&E layout NORTHWICK - our long established steam era exhibition layout which has been recently extended and refreshed. Plus - TWO working N layouts BATTY MOOR - our well established N layout which will soon be replaced by a completely NEW layout under construction. SIEGE STREET - our N gauge urban tramway layout will be making a rare appearance - don't miss it!
  10. Hey guys! Don't let the BIN price put you off - make me an offer! Paul
  11. The next project for completion will be motorising and automating the crossing gates on the bi-directional line. It will need a very basic crossing keepers hut. Having searched high and low for a 3D printed one I have decided to kitbash one from my spares box. Her are some bits left over from a previous project ... Here is the first wall - it's still a work in progress - had to stop as I've run out of MEK !
  12. Thanks to all who posted on this thread. I am no scratchbuilder, but I love a kitbash. So, I looked through my 'spares box' and found some bits left over from a previous project... And have started knitting them together ..... very much a work in progress!
  13. I apologise for asking a VERY basic question, but I still have left over from my British modelling days a rake of 20 16t minerals. On BR tracks was the concept of a train purely of 16 tonners a regional thing? In other words, I associate trains purely of 16 tonners with NE death steam; would it be appropriate to run them with western, southern, midland steam as well?
  14. I have now received a full report in a private email and am happy that I have the whole picture - thanks to everyone who replied.
  15. Hello again Nigel Any chance please of a photo showing how the track looks
  16. Hello Nigel Thanks for sharing your experience. Yes, I plan to use a Heathcote device, but you have slightly misunderstood my question. It is more a case of is ambient exhibition hall lighting sufficient to make these work reliably?
  17. First of all a big thank you to those who have bothered to post replies and who have had to deal with my ignorance of Digitrax issues. I have not been able to deal with layout issues for 4 weeks for various reasons, but today I have been able to carry out some tests and discuss the results with our Digitrax 'expert' - Bob Perrat if that means anything to anyone - who is still in hospital but we conference called via his mobile. It now seems that the issue is that the DCS 100 is faulty - it's as simple as that. I am greatly relieved as it seems that I'm not quite as stupid and ignorant as I thought. Thanks again to all those who posted on this thread. Thanks again for everyone's patience. Paul
  18. Hi I want to operate a level crossing automatically and I have found a module to do that . I want to use IRDOT-1 optical detectors which I have never used before and know nothing about. So my questions are 1. My layout does not have lights, so the ambient lighting is standard exhibition hall lighting. Are IRDOT-1 detectors reliable with that ambient lighting? 2. If so, is there a particular brand/type that is particularly suitable for OO/HO use? 3. Assuming that I want one of the detectors in my scenic area, do I have to have a huge hole in my track (3-5mm?) or can it be very small (1-3mm)? I regret I have very little electronic knowledge and so hope I have used technical terms correctly. Thanks
  19. I have now received some sample prints of windows from my friendly 3D printer ....................... They are a work in progress and I need to evaluate them. Here is the kind of building they will fit into ...
  20. After a touch of paint they look like this ....................... That's about all I've managed today!
  21. As regards the C&S 2-6-0 , the livery and numbering are 100% except for the word 'WESTERN' replacing 'SOUTHERN' - so a relatively easy swap. The C21 would require all lettering and numbering being removed.
  22. Yes, I would agree that a fictitious livery does detract slightly, but hopefully not massively! For anyone interested they are on ebay now. Here are some photos of the C21 ... And the C&S 2-6-0 .......
  23. I have been working on figures again. This time I wanted industrial workers waiting for the passenger train. So I bought some Preiser ones .... This is figure # 6 showing one leg shortened .. Figure # 2 in the original photo is now figure # 3 in this shot and he has two problems i) if i simply shorten his legs his bag will nearly touch the ground ii) he is standing with one bent leg................. So I cut his bag off and straightened his leg as you can see in this shot .................. Last was figure # 1 in the original photo. The problem with him was that his jacket would become a trench coat if I just shortened his legs and so his jacket needed shortening too.... leaving (for the moment) just one European (guest) worker to be taken to the steelworks.
  24. Hello, I had to sell my large ON3 layout a few years back, but kept most of the locos and some stock. My next ON3 layout will be an Inglenook type project and so having seven ON3 locos seems a bit excessive. So just to say that I have at least two DCC fitted ON3 locos for sale. They are both SOUND equipped with Tsunami sound chips, but most importantly they have been painted by award-winning modeller Brian Coldicott. They have working headlights and marker lights and cab lights. They are............... i) Balboa D&RGW C21 outside framed 2-8-0 - remotored and some added detail painted as #44 in my private road COLORADO & WESTERN ii) Overland C&S 2-6-0 # 22 painted in my porivate road as # 21 in COLORADO & WESTERN livery Photos to follow .....
  25. Just updating details of our Open Day on July 21st .............. Northwick will be operating and so here is a sneak preview ......
