  1. Bagged clay, I think you’d have to go back 10 years or more…there was sometimes a cargowaggon added to the stoke train but along time back and par docks has been the big powder wagons for years, no idea when anything else came out . the whole scene is super dull compared to the 80s and fairly dull compared with the 90s !

    EBay madness

Yes in this day and age there’s not really any excuse for taking naff pictures. I've sold a few things on eBay recently - I find the app overly helpful. Often suggesting postage options I then have to edit out . One thing I had to watch - I only sell stuff on the 80% off variable fees weekend. It auto relists ( another thing I didn’t ask for) If it then sells on relist it’s not covered by the 80%. Argued that one . And becuase , apparently , I’m a “ loyal customer “ I got £9 back .
  3. Also some of my locos have been through several different incarnations - I don’t want the identity to be irreversible
  4. I think cavalex are to be commended for name plate guides, I’ve not seen that before . JN, I use tamiya low tack masking tape as a guide on cab sides . I then use 2 tiny dots of “ glue and glaze “ ( cos it dries clear if I really cock it up ) and place said item on top. Can also use tiny drops of varnish - always applied minutely with end of a cocktail stick
  5. Enough BBR, this isn’t your private thread. If you want to carry on, please direct message them or something
  6. We’ve had this debate before , many times , and suffice I’m not going to start it again . With a large number of members touchy about “ labelling “ , “ pigeon holing”, it’s not where I want to go at all…because it requires such , ill self label myself. What it comes down to is …time…money….both are in short supply. So in modelling you choose what appeals to you and what you can afford. I build wagon kits - I don’t enjoy it much. I find it fiddly , frustrating and annoying. The only reason I’ve done it in the past is the wagons I wanted weren’t available RTR, then they were and I stopped ….Am I a “ real “ modeller then ? I change decals, I have done resprays , I change numbers - this is the part of the hobby that appeals to me …am I a real modeller ?who cares… I build layouts , mainly small. I get diminishing returns TBH. I only build them to have a realistic back drop for the fantastic RTR we have. I don’t have time to build everything … So I label myself as a collector , who likes to customise models , and run them in a semi realistic environment . At the end of the day if I enjoy it that’s enough , that’s the whole point of it and the only point .
  7. Fleet looks good , although the grey and yellow wagons would not run together as a clam is vacuum braked and a Rudd is air braked
  8. That debate has been done to death . And as we’ve just had a debate on “ labelling “ I’m happy to say that both RTR and kit building is modelling in my eyes . I tried to get the only train kit of a 12T crane before the hattons thing but it was sold out - am now on waiting list fir next batch
  9. The Hattons 12 T crane was an example. I thought they’d be loads of interest - I didn’t realise you had to register interest - I didn’t , it wasn’t made .
  10. Early teens ? Do your time lad ..😁 Thats a good call - I’d expect transrail, mainline and loadhaul all to appear . There wasn’t that many celeb liveries on the 60s back then so I’m also expecting the British steel duo , and the corus duo ( twin pack , model ship exclusive , remortgage my house job ). The dilemma I have these days is what to replace from my fleet - because I can’t afford to replace the lot
  11. Interesting . The Heljan / EFE 58 hung around on the shelves a lot - might be it’s a dated model or maybe there isn’t enough following for a new super detailed one ? And I suppose cos they disappeared so long back there’s no current market . Personally though , I wouldn’t mind a couple . 58020 and 040 in faded mainline were the 2 I remember seeing . Anyway back to the 60 . IKB looks great - it was only a matter of time before someone did it ! Gotta watch all these pre orders though , I’m not Elon musk !
  12. Having owned several of the original 47s, I’ve been put off the brand indefinitely , sadly .
  13. Ah ok . I think I’m misquoting someone who said they flew off the shelves - not sure if that was keen modeller or a retailer . Edit - I’m sure a retailer said they sold stacks which surprised me - might have been our friends at trains4U IIRC
  14. It’s been suggested before with other model manufacturers but blue box wouldn’t do it because in their view it doesn’t sell - there’s a large % of modellers unable or unwilling to add decals … worked for Heljan though with their unnumbered 47s
  15. I’m not really into the current scene but I think the maroon is the best of these dog dinners … but TBH , modern GBRF looks best on these with big numbers as they bear a passing resemblance to the 70 s but are a modern concept . i can’t help that think conspiracy wise GB are on 10% of every wacky livery variation Bachmann sell
  16. I admire anyone with the patience to create such a vista ! Well done
  17. As someone else pointed out , it’s an easy reference to when people were born. It’s not some “judgement “ on the relative merits of each group, so you can park your outrage .
  18. That’s it ….I’m an X …my kids are Z….im guessing any grandkids are to be B ;) My kids sometimes call me boomer just to wind me up. Even they know I’m not that old
  19. Bit of speed tape and the engineers will sign it off .. Guinness world record “ biggest thread creep “
  20. Saw a video with Pete waterman , I think he was right in the concept that kids today want to see todays railways as much as we all did in our day . I imagine in 30 years time all the Gen z who liked trains will be nostalgic for the covid era and building layouts with the units of today utilising their newly found extra disposable income . And so the cycle will continue . As long as their are trains , there will be train fans and by extension modellers
  21. Hi, I have just brought my first Bachmann modern unit as below and I’m rather enamoured with it . I was wondering if anyone knows the colours for the seats and floor as I’d like to paint them . Unit dates from between 1999 and 2005 I believe , Thanks in advance ,
  22. Even with underscale wheels it doesn’t have the same issue as the Hornby one , in so much as it looked like it was on tip toes to me. the gap bogie to body looks much better
