Well.... Today I dusted off the layout.... and went for a brew
Looking at the railway room it needs a bit of a tidy up! So I decided to did out the embossed card and fire up the computer.....
Below is an image that was kindly sent to me for my own personal use some years by the late Peter Robinson, from his own collection. It is the Furness Railway water tower that was at Lakeside station.
As I have no measurements to work with, I am reduced to counting bricks in an effort to make something that looks the part, likewise I may have to be a bit creative with what the other sides will look like, and the window frames! It is worth a note that an older photo shows it with a slate roof. My dad and uncle tell me they can't remember this when they used to get sent to lakeside box for a hair cut of the veg order!!!
I have spent all afternoon counting bricks and cutting the card! I have tried this before using Slaters Flemish bond embossed card but found the bricks did not line up correctly, so this time I have gone with South Eastern Finecast embossed card..... so far, so good.
Something that I have noticed whilst the colour of the bricks on the Lakeside branch were the same, the order/pattern that was used seems to vary (google Haverthwaite station and google Lakeside station), so this give me a bit of play with the colours, but it will be the yellow, red and black.
Now need to attempt to get into town tomorrow lunch or on Thursday for more supplies!

I see on a photographic web site that I look at, the ex Virgin liveried BSO was replaced by a DRS one at some point last week http://daviddockray.smugmug.com/Trains/Recent/17894198_wqsMNP#!i=4180676932&k=ps2NNWw&lb=1&s=A
I also see from an update on the rail magazine web pages that one DRS DBSO is due out of the works in November, destined for the Cumbrian coast, but according to the story it will appear in Northern livery!

So does this mean we are to have loco hauled serves for some time?

Hi All,
Can anyone shed any light on tomorrows workings please?
I was thinking of a quick trip from Carnforth to Preston and back.....
looking at http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/PRE/2015/05/28/0935 I see the loco hauled service (2C32 Carlisle - Preston service) arrive at Preston but the 10.04 (2C47) departure to Barrow does not seem to on, yet it is there for Friday!!!!
Any thoughts please?
Thanks

Hi Jim. Which way are the logs going, WCML or S&C?
Thanks Ian

One of my local gen sites is bemoaning the fitment of window bars.
Probably a good idea to keep the idiots caged in around the Maryport area.
And it means that lineside photos aren't ruined by flailers.......
Cheers,
Mick
Just seen a mates photos on Facebook, seems the bars are fitted to the inside of the doors! Dam....

Interesting shots of Carnforth everytime I pass by on the train it looks more and more like a scrap yard with the line of coaches getting ever decrepit ,always liked to go to Steamtown at least they kept it tidy. Are the loco hauled trains well patronised?
Many thanks.
Interestingly, they seem to have had a big tidy up around the back at WCR! Likewise, some of the ex RES mk1's are now up for sale. Not sure how well patronised the loco hauled trains are yet, but I think I may have a trip to Barrow on one next week....
Kind regards

It appears that things such as opening the doors are causing confusion.....

O dear......

So with not enough 37/4's...... If I go down to Carnforth station every day I wonder what my chance of getting a ride behind either a 57, 66 or 68 will be

The times seem to be out now on Railtourinfo site.

We've just bought a static caravan in silloth (near carlisle) so of course getting the s+c under my belt will mean come the summer i can do the likes of the southbound logs via the s+c to warrington for a week, i can then go pass back to carlisle at the end of the shift (rather than pass to carlisle at the start) and head to the van with the family In the evenings!!
And a certain model shop very near Carlisle station with its own RMweb member in it!

I see that Railway Herald are reporting that we are getting proper trains back in Cumbria
http://railwayherald.com/uknews/loco-hauled-services-to-return-to-the-cumbrian-coast
I can't wait to see a DRS set with kevpeo's microphones attached!
Still it will be nice to see them out on the coast line in summer

If anyone finds my modelling mojo, could they please post it to -
Hi Kev,
Happy new year.
On the up side at least you have managed to get something done, which is more than I have.....
But there does seem to be a "modelling mojo" thief on the lose around here over the last few months. He/she seems to have got a few of us
Kind regards

Next time you head North, you will find part one of small new bridge just South of Morecambe South Jc for the M6 link road!

back to the logs tomorrow for a couple of days
Which way/section are you on?
Ian
-
Well. It has been just over 5 months since I posted anything about my layout.....
But now that I have some room to work....
I have decided to work on one board at a time, not to sure how this will pan out?
Over the last few weeks I have been doing a bit as and when I can, so the results so far
The soil area that appears out of the hillside (left hand side of the valley) under the bridge in the first photo, is to be a small stream, with a road and farm track on the right. A path for the cattle will come down from the cattle dock to an area by the bottom of the bridge to be loaded into road vehicles. The road will continue up the other side of the valley. Where it goes, and to what it goes to, I don't yet know! The cattle dock needs a bit of work to finish it off and some of the track needs to be weathered.......
At least I get to play trains on Saturday!

Looking at two of the diesel locos you have got shots of.... Is the railway sponsored by a famous Irish stout company?
It does look to be a nice little line
