  3. You can actually get past Scalby & all the way to Gallows Close. (A Sainsburys stands on part of the old yard there). The station site at Scalby & a little bit of the trackbed north of it has been built on, but there is a clear diversion which takes you back onto the route at the north end of the viaduct. Yes, a very scenic route, but a swine to work, particularly in winter, with steep climbs either side of Ravenscar; 1 in 39 southbound & 1 in 41 northbound. Then you had the reversals at each end to complicate matters. Mark

    EBay madness

Quite. Whilst we all have to accept that Royal Mail's recent increases are not good for the wallet, sadly some vendors are taking the you-know-what... Mark

Ten grand? That's one hell of a first sale! (and a lot of commission to eBay...) Mark
  6. I agree with much of what you've put, pheaton. However, the LMS 10000 bunch haven't been put off, & frankly much of their gear will be pretty basic - no modern electronics in the control systems for a start - all discrete components that will be easier to obtain & change for a while yet, unlike much modern stuff. The heavy stuff; yes, more expensive to manufacture from new than many steam locomotive parts, but again, straightforward in engineering terms. Mark

""Reason for sale is I need the funds for my university degree and no refunds offered due to the nature of the hobby"" That's an interesting 'reason' - but at least he's up front about it... Will still pass on it though Mark

  15. I would be SO tempted to do just that, especially if known 'rivet counters' were in the vicinity. Appropriate photo evidence to hand, of course... Maybe it's just my sense of humour Mark

  21. What an interesting photo, QP - thanks for linking to it Mark
  22. I wonder if anyone knows about fish traffic along the Scarborough line from Whitby, if any? Possibly the odd load from Robin Hoods Bay? If so, would it have been vans at the rear of passenger trains, or dedicated workings? Also, would it have been worked via Whitby or Scarborough? I'm researching goods traffic along the coast, and information is a little sparse at present. Cheers Mark
  23. To reply to QuoitsPlayer, no problem for me either. All very interesting . Thanks for sharing the info Mark
