  1. Ravenscar station again, this time looking north
  2. OK, let's try adding a few photos... Here's Ravenscar station, looking south towards Scarborough
  3. I raised the topic of plasticard becoming brittle with age some way upthread. I'm involved with the (slow) restoration of an old layout, & the plasticard buildings, retaining walls etc have become very brittle. Now, I do wonder if the 'formula' for the material has been altered in recent times? Does anyone know? I'm not referring to ABS here btw; that's another material.
  4. Chris, many congratulations. What an achievement. Mark

Quite. Then there's this wheeze http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2010-Nissan-Qashqai-1-5-dCi-BEIGE-Acenta-5dr-BREAKING-ALL-PARTS-AVALIABLE-SPARES/390671190095?_trksid=p3984.m2206&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D129%26meid%3D1820804719955927618%26pid%3D100052%26prg%3D1108%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D300651705768%26 Have an auction for one wheel nut & invite phone calls for the rest of the bits available, thus presumably bypassing all listing fees, buyer protection etc etc... Yes, he claims "we'll list on eBay", but would he?

He's been doing that for a long time, Mike - and gets away with it... Mark
  9. This is a fine piece of modelling. Great stuff, David. The only concern I have (& for the record, several years ago I built a plasticard body for an original condition Johnson Midland Compound, to go on a Hornby chassis), is that over time the plasticard tends to become brittle, particularly the thinner sheets. Something to watch out for. Mark
  10. Well, once you've got all the driving wheels out then there's nothing to stop you putting new frame spacers in, then cut away the ones presently stopping you driving another axle. That way you keep the alignment 'as is'. Good luck with the project. Mark

  14. Mill Dam was definitely still in use in 1978 - I was staying at the Seamans' Mission and I can confirm that it was a very busy 24/7 operation then... Mark

  16. :jester: 'twas a mere trypping error... (Note to self - use your own lappy, not the office pooter with its dodgy keyboard, if you're in a hurry...) Just tidying up the last stuff before the freedom bird tomorrow afternoon! And yes, best to let the site owner know about the locations... Mark

Not as good as last time we came through - we only got up to 21.8 knots today. Last time was 23.9 knots, but we were turning 122 rpm, as opposed to today's more pedestrian 105 rpm...

Given the metaphorical kicking such things (and their vendors) usually get, that would have to be the same line of thinking as the boss of a certain (allegedly cut-price) airborne cattle truck outfit uses... ...but wouldn't explain the non-railway tat that is also seen on Ebay which isn't mentioned on these august pages...
