  1. I <think> that it was in Hamilton Ellis' book "LMS- a Railway in Retrospect" that Fowler is quoted as 'having never designed a locomotive in his life' Mark

Another gem from Cartmel http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRI-ANG-RAILWAYS-R-52-NER-EX-LMS-3F-0-6-0T-JINTY-TANK-LOCO-CODE-3-/260857163931?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3cbc4c709b Code 3, eh?

  9. I do wonder what would have happened, had Deeley not quit? Fowler was not a 'designer' as such, more a 'manager'. Deeley, on the other hand, was looking at bigger locomotives - his proposed compound 4-6-0 might well have changed Midland & subsequent LMS thinking. One does hope that they would have had bigger axleboxes, of course... Mark

""Looking closely at this model I can see two hairline cracks in the window frame just below the roof at both ends of the locomotive. This is a common feature of these locomotives and does not detract from the model." And an opening bid of £1250 My flabber is truly gasted at this one... Mark
  12. The Wild Swan book is very good, and I'm 99% certain that they only ever ran with the Mansell wheels - I've never seen a picture of those vehicles running with spoked wheels, but as ever stand to be corrected. Mark

Yes, I'll be interested to see if the buyer gets his goods too. Speaking of trying to avoid PP fees, one of our regular 'sellers of note' is openly suggesting paying by means other than PayPal on a couple of high-value sets of coaches - I wonder if he'll get into trouble with eBay over it? Mark
  16. Thanks guys - it does look like maroon - the joys of b/w and/or sepia images, eh? The pic I was originally thinking of is on P81 of Robin Lidster's "Scarborough & Whitby Railway through time". Mark
  17. Also, the pic of Diagram 14600-614E might be maroon too Mark
  18. I am, yes. I'm looking for the pic I referred to before, but I've found this - another pic on this link http://www.lner.info/locos/Railcar/sentinel.shtml Scroll down to Diagram 88 Cheers Mark
  19. I've seen a photo of a Sentinel Steam Railcar in what appears to be NER style lined maroon, taken on the Whitby-Scarborough line. I'll see if I can find it when I get the chance, unless someone beats me to it Mark

Just one point with this - these bids were placed before the 'additional information' was added by the seller - isn't there something about being able to withdraw bids if additional info is posted? Yes, I know it's been pointed out that it did mention 'box only' in the initial listing, but just a thought? Mark

I've lost out a few times, yet had some cracking bargains too. Sometimes what you think is a silly, low bid wins. Just persevere - remember, if you're not in it, you can't win it... Mark
