  1. My brother stopped by today to pick up a metal cabinet for use with the preservation group he is with...the EPB preservation group I think. Anyway someone left a load of stuff with them for sale. Among them were lots of postcards, reprints of old postcards and adverts. among them were these car related ones. And a bit of a cheeky cheat, some for Corgi & Dinky toys but still car related
  2. Saw my first butterflies on Friday, a couple of small whites possibly and one very small all blue butterfly. Unfortunately they would stay still so identifying them was impossible and I didn't have a camera with me at the time so no chance of a photo.
  3. OOOOOOO...BOOO....HISS..... I can hear the LMS fans now...Off with his head...string him up by the short and curlies!!! Don't forget Stanier was a GWR pupil
  4. That second photo is really nice. What you need to do with that one is rotate it a bit to the left to straighten the horizon and crop either side to knock off that nasty streetlight on the right hand side and do the same with that with the lamp hanging in the sky on the left hand side and that green thing that the people are standing by on the extreme left...a bit distracting to the eye.
  5. Green Arrow and Leander have visited in the past. Both for their Giants of Steam weekends. Green Arrow I saw on the weekend and that made me decide not to visit either before or after as there were too many people there and too much pushing and shoving. For Leander I think I went the weekend after and there was hardly anyone there so it was a pleasant visit and I was able to get some nice photos. City of Truro as well but when I visited that had broken something so wasn't in use. Prairie 5199 and other visitor and of course Ivatt 2MT 41312
  6. I believe they use remotely controlled cameras for the Go slow programmes so they just mount the cameras in the cab, on top of the cab or tender, front buffer beam or perhaps on the smokebox lamp bracket. All you need is a couple of operators in the first carriage to move the cameras remotely on a wireless feed so no need for anyone extra in the cab.
  7. In case it hasn't already been posted http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-39447835 Now why didn't BBC 4 wait until this to do the onboard slow TV programme...while the SVR version is perfectly fine this would have been far more interesting.
  8. Excellent work...another layout for my favourite top trumps. Looking at the photos posted it is very reminiscent of the photos in 70's & 80's copies of Model Railway Constructor about the building of the Bodmin layout. Just hope my efforts as a returner to the hobby can get anywhere near.
  9. I'd have to add the smart phone to that....never seen so many people standing at the barriers and checking out their facebook status and emails etc etc stopping other people getting a look at the layouts and what was moving and going on.
  10. Judging by some of the comments on the London Festival of Railway Modelling thread I think there will be some lynchings next year
  11. That's perfect, many thanks for the link and I'll have to look in my collection of MRC magazines for May 79
  12. I saw some of these for sale at my local Waitrose (other supermarkets are available of course) But as is Waitrose, too expensive...and the problem of spending far too much money at the London Fest show this weekend.
  13. Just curious about the push pull set you had running on the Saturday. Is the brake/cab end coach you have running on the set a conversion of one of the old Hornby/Triang clerestory coaches or is it a kit built coach? I presume the second coach of the set is a kit. I should have asked at the time I know but you all looked rather busy with running the layout.
  14. Well the Buddliea Buzz's have survived the winter and are now putting on some new growth. Which is a miracle considering how badly I tend to treat plants that I've bought for the garden!!! I can't put them into the large pots I was hoping as these are full of soil that I've dug out of the back garden for the raised flower bed & wildlife pond that I'm building. So what I'll do is leave them in the small pots for the moment and re-pot them later in the year...probably early autumn time in bigger slightly bigger pots with fresh compost to give them chance to get bigger before I put them into the large pots that I plan to use for them.
  15. Really enjoyed seeing Much Murkle today at the London Fest. Got plenty of pics to go through and given a bit of boost for getting on with my own layout. It certainly was drawing some crowds.
  16. Just back from the show. Another excellent event and thank you to all the exhibitors and staff for putting on an excellent job.
  17. Will be leaving the house soon to get up there near the front of the queue.
  18. Did a quick search of Birdlife.org.au and it could be a Chestnut crowned Babbler http://www.birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/chestnut-crowned-babbler
  19. I've had a Blue Tit in the garden with some sort of damaged leg earlier in the year and it seemed to cope fairly well, although I haven't seen it for a few weeks now. I wonder if your Greenfinch has that parasite Trichomonosis...I don't know what the symptoms are of that disease but it is supposed to rather rife among the finch families. More likely it just damaged it's leg somehow and some sort of infection has set in. might be an idea to give your feeders a good wash and clean to stop it transmitting anything to other birds.
  20. Charlie Chaffinch, Doris Dove and Larry Long Tailed Tit have been having a feast in the front garden while Jenny Wren has been having a bath in the back garden....meanwhile we've had a furry interloper as well
  21. I was flicking through some 1970's copies of Railway Modeller this morning and I think I have 4mm scale plans of the vans. I don't know much about overseas stuff so may not be looking at the right thing but they look the same as the pic posted by Gordonwis. I'll have a look again tonight and PDF scan them to email to you.
