  1. Thanks for the link I will check that out later....it's more a case of how much I can afford to spend on reducing my overdraft limit, currently at -£1300 at he moment as well as saving a bit more in my ISA account. Although I can't deny I have already been looking on Ebay for potential train treats!!! But I will have to be a very good boy for the next few months and keep my bank manager a happy person.
  2. After 20 odd years I have finally been given a pay rise by the bosses. It's an extra £1500 a year, so £125 a month PRE tax. I really don't understand income tax rates etc etc etc so my question is how much of that £125 will I lose in income tax? At the moment I'm getting £24,999 a year PRE tax so the payrise will take it to £26,499.
  3. Sadly I think it's going to be up to us and others to report these people as Ebay seem to be incapable of spotting the scammers...it's the same with any of these large internet conglomerates and their algorithms. Reported it anyway under fraudulent listings.
  4. You just know when something was designed at the end of the 70's and early 80's...tartan everywhere!!!
  5. I've posted further pics of the aircraft on the For those that like aircraft thread http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/113458-for-those-who-like-aircraft-pictures/page-8
  6. A couple of screen grabs from the TV. First is a London taxi cab...not sure but I think this might be an Austin FX3 but I'm sure someone can correct, plus an interior shot. From The Avengers episode Noon Doomsday. Don't ask why there is a taxi in the middle of a field...it was the Avengers and there is very little in that show that did make any real sense. Doesn't stop me from being a big fan though. Next up is a coach and either a Ford Transit or a Bedford van from the Are You Being Served movie. I don't know much more than that as coach & van spotting was never my thing.
  7. With finding absolutely sweetFA to watch on TV a few weekends back I resorted to watching the Are You Being Served movie...an awful film I know but it's been so long since I've seen Mr Humphries free and Mrs Slocombe and her ###### being unanimous in that that I thought I'd give it a go. One plus side, well after Mrs Slocombe in her nightie...with her booby doo's. Are the few shots taken, I presume, at Gatwick in the late 1970's when there were proper airliners and they all looked different so you could tell them apart from one another. Dan Air BAC 1-11's & Comet 4c's BCal DC10, BA 707's among others. Even a DH Dove.
  8. Not quite in it's glory anymore but this halt is featured in The Avengers - Noon Doomsday episode. The nameboard says Langs Halt, although I would presume that is just a bit of set dressing and there is also an LMS sign regarding trespassing on the line. Any clues to it's real identity? I know a lot of these Avengers programes were filmed in the north London/Home Counties areas so it could well be on LMS territory.
  9. Has the scam listing is still on I've reported it to Ebay. Had to list it under fraudulent activities as they don't seem to have anywhere to give information about one listing copying another listing.
  10. The British did try it in a tank designed for it called the Tortoise and it was used as an anti tank gun like the German 88 but it was found to be unstable as an anti tank gun unlike the 88 and as the name suggests the Tortoise tank was very slow and a pain in proverbial to transport as it was so big. Also the arrival of the QF 17 pounder in the anti tank role, smaller and lighter and still having the same punch made it a better proposition for a tank gun. At the time It was easier to modify the gun to fit in the Sherman turret than build a tank for the gun...although the very early marks of Centurion tank were built around the 17pdr.
  11. mmmmm That heady scent of sun cream mixed with jet fuel!!!
  12. Now could you ever believe Telly Savalas as a dastardly, villainous bad guy??? Bent on world domination from his evil lair???........Oh now come on.....Who Luv's ya baby!!!
  13. Nobby Nuthatch came back to the garden yesterday evening...but not for long...some Bluetits to an exception to him on the peanut feeder.
  14. This past weekend on Talking Pictures channel Sons of the Sea...supposedly an espionage thriller filmed in 1939 in colour (no not colourized) Not a good film, no real suspense, thrills or drama but some nice views of Churston for Brixham station in 1939 in colour.
  15. Very belated I know but I did enjoy Stodden Hundred at the 2016 London Fest of Model railways. Bags of idea and inspiration...I just need to finish all my other projects first!!!
  16. Bit of a cheat here as this was taken off a railway DVD that I had...sadly I can't remember the title. 86 going through the washers. And with Royal Mail stock on the left hand side
  17. I'll putting a wildlife pond into the raised flower bed at a later point. I'm using a large plastic planter tub for mine but here are a couple of other ideas from the BBC Autumn/Winter/Springwatch team http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03xcbb1 http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04qrxhp
  18. Not such bad weather over here in Kent...been quite a sunny weekend so far if a bit chilly. Been working out in the garden though today in Tshirt but I have been building a brand new raised flower bed in the back garden for a new wildlife pond and bee and butterfly friendly plants & flowers. The old one I had built for veg had rotted pretty quickly as we have heavy clay soil and I left it sitting on the soil. So the new one I removed a load of soil and filled the hole with several hundred mugs that were being thrown out at my workplace, put into the trench and crushed up and then a layer of gravel all for drainage. Then haul all the timber (all reclaimed timber so no expense there) back home from work as a kit of parts and start putting the whole thing together in the hole. All I have to do now is put a membrane around the inside and start filling up with soil...with gravel around the edges to help with drainage. I have a large plastic planter tub which will be the wildlife pond and that will be at one end.
  19. Had a Robin in the garden this morning with some curious behaviour. Sticking it's head back and puffing out it's chest. Either it's some territorial display or he's trying to get the lady Robins to come up and see his etchings. Apologies for the photos but it was early morning and there wasn't much light about to get a decent shot through the living room windows.
  20. Surprised no mention has been made of the SECR K & K1 2-6-4 tanks considering one of them tipped over because of their instability
  21. THAT'S THE ONE!!! I always considered it continental as the only one I had ever seen was produced by Lima so presumed it was loosely based on some European design...But American or European it's all foreign to me I was looking at a picture of one the other day and the way the engine bonnet is with the cab reminded me of those railcars used on the Irish narrow gauge lines, if fitted with a coach body on the back. Obviously with the fixed wheel base of the shunter you'd have to pivot one end of the coach on the chassis of the shunter (I'll have to do a rough sketch of my idea at some point) so it can negotiate tight curves and either have a single axle or a small bogie on the other end. https://transportsofdelight.smugmug.com/RAILWAYS/IRISH-RAILWAYS/NARROW-GAUGE-LOCOMOTIVES/i-dmPnKxf Just some more ideas for conversions of any of the old toy train chassis https://transportsofdelight.smugmug.com/RAILWAYS/IRISH-RAILWAYS/NARROW-GAUGE-LOCOMOTIVES/i-FLrkstj https://transportsofdelight.smugmug.com/RAILWAYS/IRISH-RAILWAYS/NARROW-GAUGE-LOCOMOTIVES/i-jwLr7Nd https://transportsofdelight.smugmug.com/RAILWAYS/IRISH-RAILWAYS/NARROW-GAUGE-LOCOMOTIVES/i-tmtX83x
  22. Has anyone done any bashes of the old Lima diesel shunter?...that HO continental style one that had lots of liveries including BR. I've got a couple in the "jobs to get around to one day" cupboard and I'm looking to build some railmotors for a planned 0-16.5 layout.
  23. But at least you get a lie down when you do get to the bottom
  24. Very nice pic. Might need to adjust contrast along the side of the loco and train though, as the deep contrast at the front doesn't quite sit right with the flatter grey along the side of the loco
