  1. Actually the UK entry for Eurovision wasn't half bad, even Graham Norton said so !! We shall see. After an exhausting day with the Grandkids at a superb party, we have all retired to bed. Miss RhBBob wants to go shopping tomorrow. Whoopee, I just love retail therapy or do I just like spending money ? Hmmmm Sorry, night all. Sleep well.
  2. Morning all ! Off to birthday celebrations for Grandson and his Mum - he was born on his Mum's Birthday. Car to be loaded with multiple cakes, cupcakes, presents and sundry items....oh, plus the three of us, Mrs RhBBob, Miss RhBBob and yours truly. Have a great day - looks like sunshine today.
  3. Good advice ! Long ago, to break a spring meant immediate disablement of the vehicle, wherever you are (two Pug 306s). Obviously advances in vehicles mean that doesn't happen now (Pug 307). Oh, we now have a Peugeot 308.
  4. This mention of odd socks/shoes reminds me of the Christmas when I received two pairs of slippers, one from each side of the family albeit that SWMBO's lot gave me ones a size too small.... Not wishing to offend (ah, those were the days !) I descended the stairs very slowly wearing one of each... At this point, the expression 'break a leg' springs to mind thank goodness for the stout banister rail.
  5. Sorry, Ian, I've just found this thread ! Getting folks under a certain age interested in the hobby is paramount; my old quote for it goes like this: if you come away from any exhibition layout saying something like 'I could do better than that', and go and do it, then as modellers we have succeeded No, that is not my excuse for 'carp' layouts
  6. Morning all ! Light rain so far so re-building of the garden table may continue ! Tomorrow we visit the Grandkids for Liam's 5th Birthday - yes, his Father was a fan of that band !! Last time we were there, Mrs RhBBob let slip a mild expletive for which she immediately apologised; Mia - 8 years old - replied ' Don't worry Grandma, we hear much worse from Daddy'... Enjoy your day
  7. Thanks, Keith It does not fill, it just keeps running straight into the bowl, so that's the flush unit, activated by the top button on the cistern lid. Would that have a replaceable membrane in it as Horsetan suggests, or perhaps as Joseph_Pestell suggests, the cable has come loose ? Thanks to all who have replied.
  8. Yes, this little unit has failed once before and the plumber fixed it in about a minute ! I would like to do that if I can identify the make/model and seek instructions. Basically the water simply entered the cistern and goes straight into the toilet bowl, bypassing the flushing mechanism. Please ignore the knife ! Thank you
  9. Greetings ! Yes, it’s me ! No, I have no idea where but the darkness has fallen and I’m still here trying to pick it up. My indecision is gone as I am no longer sure of it. Tomorrow’s mission – should I choose to accept it – is to continue renovating the garden furniture, mainly the table, with that stuff that does what it says on the tin. Actually by the time I was able to start the filling process, I saw - sorry bad choice of words – I could see that should I ever finish, the table will have to be reclassified from ‘made of wood’ to ‘mainly filler’. Enjoy the two/three days of sunshine......
  10. Morning all ! 'Thriller Live', the West End show, is coming to Skegness Embassy Theatre from 31st Oct to 4th November so I grabbed three tickets for Mrs and Miss RhBBob and self ! Going on 3rd November which seems to ring a bell ! Oh yes, on that day it will be 44 years of marriage, and 44 years and 363 days since we met. Yes, good old 'see it, like it, buy it Bob' ! And, as you will have worked out, we met on November 5th.....no comment ! Have a great day, I'm off to play golf....after a fashion. Thanks to you all as always
  11. Excuse me if you have already seen this clip ! One minute of heaven for 'HOm' RhB fans ! And the rest of us !
  12. Yes, 'tis Friday again and Mrs RhBBob has gone to get the 'hat' trimmed and shampooed before buying up Asda. After lunch she will be off to the Surgery as her (my) cold has lingered too long. I have provided a list of the 7 meds she has been taking since 24th Feb. Our new GP, code-named Doctor Lucky is superb ! We are very lucky, I realise that. I have completed some of my Friday schedule, which includes steam cleaning the kitchen/hall floor tiles and hanging out the washing on a rather cool morning. Darling Daughter heads off to see Olly Murrs this weekend accompanied by her Best Mate and her Daughters, one of which at 13 is still the most disagreeable teenager you could wish to meet; nothing ever suits her mood which is permanently 'grumpy'. Reminds me of our Grandson ! Must remember to feed Daughter's Ginger Cat...like a typical cat, he (actually 'it') will continue to eat however much you give him. Soon Mrs RhBBob and I will take him to the Vets where his claws will be clipped; this will, for the time being at least, stop him from opening the 'locked' cat-flap from the outside. Locking the flap prevents him from bringing home small dead creatures which he places behind the kitchen door ready to be ..........when the door is opened from the other side. Well you get the picture! Have a great day !
  13. Horrible coincidence today. ECML has severe delays between Newark Northgate and Retford stations because the overhead wires were damaged. Some services cancelled resulting in over-crowded trains. Tickets valid for tomorrow. Replacement buses sent from Newark were delayed by a crash on the A1 which closed both sides of the dual carriageway north of the turnoff for the A46 and A17. Never mind, it's Virgin Trains 20th Birthday today......all together now 'Happy.... Nite all
  14. Sadly the DoT only produce the Highway Code in English. Someone recently suggested that we teach our migrant workers about drinking and driving. I thought maybe we ought to start a little earlier - perhaps 'how to obtain a form for a provisional driving licence'? And then move on to the driving test, motor insurance and finally taxing the vehicle. Then we can be spoilsports and mention the drink/drive limit........and finally, as mentioned above, the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989.
  15. Morning all from the drier side of Britain! Actually lovely sunshine today and warmer outside than in at the moment. Finally persuaded Mrs RhBBob to visit the GP tomorrow as the cold I gave her some two weeks ago isn't going away. Today is pedicure day for us two, although I don't have my toenails painted. Saturday and Sunday is the golf at Skeggy, a mere sliced drive from the beach; Saturday dry, Sunday wet, although that is changing every day I look. Take care in the big wide world !
  16. Oh, I thought it was the fact that in the first photo, the house leans towards the left, whereas in the second it is vertical - perhaps the strong winds?
  17. Is that just your fellow Shots being shellfish? Oh dear, oh dear.oh dear
  18. One of the drawbacks to blood pressure tablets is that you are henceforth barred from so-called 'cold and flu' tablets. Hence the reason SWMBO is still coughing and trying to clear her blocked sinuses some four weeks after I gave her the cold. Me ? The story of my nose and sinuses is a history lesson in itself, starting back in 1953 when I was first out to the primary school playground, slipped, hit the brick wall, broke the nose and lost half a front tooth. Finally repaired in 1981 by the usual trick of having a private consultation and taking it to your GP. He then writes to a 'mate' in L*nd*n and a year later you get the nose 'fixed', well sort of. Still a troublesome 'doze' and 'dinuses'
  19. Morning all ! New electricity supplier asks for readings by 25th March to enable existing supplier to send a final bill; since new supplier is cheaper, I reason that sending them today will also be cheaper than waiting !! Raining again. Note to self; must ask the County Council to choose a new Tourist slogan to replace 'the drier side of Britain' as it is rapidly becoming out of date.... Enjoy your day, except perhaps, if in UK, that bit from 11.30 this morning. If more than three-score-and-ten, worry not ! We've seen it all before.
  20. RAF Typhoons over us at 0 feet again today chasing a plane from Romania which had 'lost contact'. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-39190527 These interceptions are becoming quite regular !
  21. Sad to learn this news but thanks, Chris. Saw Derek back in 1968 or 69 at The Boggery, a folk club in Solihull. An extremely talented guy, both on guitar and with his humour. Also on the same bill was a comedian called Jasper Carrott, who I have since learned, started the club. Brum was a posting for me in my banking days; five-and-a-half days at work meant most of my weekend was spent on a bus, either Lincs Road Car or Midland Red ! We last saw Jasper a couple of years ago at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness in a show called 'Stand Up and Rock' together with a band comprising members of various Brummy bands including 'Move' drummer Bev Bevan, later with ELO. The Move visited the bank branch where I worked when the late Carl Wayne - known to his Mum as Colin Tooley - opened an account.
  22. Reminded me of a trip to Paris a few years back. The tour guide recommended that we find a 'end of street' cafe bar where we could sit behind glass and watch the world go by. Unbeknown to us, there was a primary school opposite; at finishing time, parents' vehicles just kept arriving, double-parking, triple-parking and so on, until the avenue was completely blocked off. Amazingly, in the land of the car horn, no-one seemed to mind the delay !
  23. Thirty years plus six days ago we travelled back with some friends from France on this ship. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-39116394
  24. Morning all ! Off to the Holy City - where they store our Council Tax - today to hopefully return with working windscreen washers on Daughter's car ! I guess many here will have noticed that the extra little tablet is working quite well since I am clearly 'high as a kite', for which I apologise. At the risk of starting a medical thread, we found out recently from a well-known chemist that Cold & Flu Tablets are a distinct 'no no' for those on blood pressure medication as they simply negate the effect of medications such as Ramipril. Go carefully, please and thanks
  25. Just don't go near your GP's surgery ! My current bottle of single malt, from the Glen of Tranquillity, is consumed at 2 (large) measures a year for Birthday and Christmas. It should last another twenty years at least....always assuming, of course.....
