  1. I went into town for some bits and pieces and stumbled into our little branch of 'Next' where a jumper leaped out at me; I was heading for Holland & Barrett for some wheat bran (don't ask...). 'Next' is like a shop from England, all polite, helpful and smiling assistant. I at first declined a plastic bag at 5p but then changed my mind; the jumper was £32 after all I came out of there and suddenly realised that H & B was back in the Market Place from whence I had come; needless to say Mrs RhbBob looked unconvinced with the explanation

It was obviously too tender ........ Sorry....sorry....so very sorry. I must get serious before it's too late...then again
  3. Oh dear this won't do our rural image much good - I'll put it in smaller letters Woman in court in Lxxxxxn on dog sex charges
  4. Morning all ! Visited England on Friday night, Leeds to be precise, to see Andre Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra at The Arena. Fabulous show, nearly three hours of first class entertainment, including artificial snow from above. We stayed overnight at the Ibis Hotel Leeds Centre. England is so different; they have decent roads and polite people who speak and smile, and make conversation. A friendly young man (aren't they always younger ?) helped us back to the Hotel with directions and even offered to walk with us ! Managed the app for parking but Bugle Maps confused me completely. Shall have to take further lessons from Daughter Barcelona is next - the Camp Nou - in February.....wish me luck
  5. Last night's Christmas Lights in Boston, UK were, as expected, a dismal sight. Despite being a late night opening for shopping, most places were shut including our little branch of 'Next'. And the bin-emptying charge for 2017/18 is going up by 3%. Another recession year approaches, methinks !
  6. Two headlines, then.... All new police officers to have degrees University to lower entry grades for poor Whoops
  7. Peanuts you are showing your age Another 3 points so the chase is on - oh and Leicester should have kept Chris Wood, although I am pleased they didn't.
  8. C10018 is vying for the prize for the strangest combination so far ..... but wait, there may be more...
  9. Morning all from a foggy Lincolnshire ! Checking my TrueCall interrupter unit I see that 95% of incoming calls in the last six months were 'rubbish' being mainly boiler replacement/boiler oil supply/pension withdrawals or similar. Each time they apparently call from a different 'STD' code. A shame that I need BT for the 300 Mbps on the improved Broadband.
  10. Belated morning greetings to all ! I see that public schools (that's private schools for US readers) are to admit non-fee paying pupils from the lower orders. These will be known as 'formally arranged groups'; I wonder if there's an acronym for that.......ooops... Sadly I left my coat and scarf at Miss RhBBob's place last night but we are heading that way shortly - sound of door slamming
  11. It's a beautiful world out there but please beware !!!!
  12. Sad to report that a fatal accident between a car and a motorcycle blocked the A16 just south of us earlier today. The road was expected to be open by 17.30 hours but still closed according to local BBC traffic webpage just now. One man has died.
  13. Good idea to translate something into German - gives the exhibition viewer something to ponder. Winterschlaf was supposed to be 'hibernation'; only one chap ever mentioned it at an exhibition. Zeilende is a very rough translation of 'line end/end of line'.
  14. Wow ! Another string to your bow, then, Alan ! Sorry ....sorry...so sorry...
  15. Morning all ! Off to the land of my birth, Sleaford, today to Argos, to collect yet another present for our Granddaughter, Mia. Going with both Mrs and Miss RhBBob so no doubt Lidl's specials, stollen etc., will be on the list. Sadly Grandson Liam's chosen item, a Paw Patrol wagon is completely sold out according to several internet sources so new ideas will have to be investigated. Yes, the little tearaway, 4 going on 14, is to be Joseph in the School Nativity Play. They must see a different side to him! Named after his Dad's love of Oasis, he speaks very well for his age so probably he needs stimulation. According to Liam, he got the main part, although I think a small child is the real reason for the celebration.
  16. Ah, a little milder as we head towards what those younger than I call 'the weekend'. Just back from giving blood sample for six month diabetes check in two weeks time. Usual grumpy people in the surgery, many of them, like myself, older than the NHS - so why moan ? Mrs RhBBob off to buy up Asda and I am steam cleaning the kitchen floor tiles with my little 'Vax'. Happy poets day to those at work and a great weekend when it arrives !
  17. Morning all ! The Hull Morning News (aka Look North) weather lady, Abbie, says 'it is a much milder start to the day'. So what is all this frost on the roofs and pavements ?
  18. Following the Bank of England's announcement, the NFU in Lincolnshire is now working on a scheme to introduce a new species of vegetarian beef cattle. This will be followed by meat-free lamb. Fat-free pigs are thought to be unlikely for the foreseeable future. To balance this, we shall be growing beef vegetables including pork broccoli, ham cauliflowers and certain varieties of beef oats and barley. Unlikely? Well, Tim Peake thinks we will be colonising the moon by the 2020s although I feel sure that some bloke called Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin said that back in 1969
  19. So the Christmas Lights switch on in Boston last Thursday was 'a disappointment' according to the local paper. In reply, the Borough Council paraphrased Franklin D. Roosevelt and replied 'we did what we could with what we had'. Lincoln has just received some funding for its Eastern Bypass....... don't get me started
  20. Morning all from a very frosty Lincolnshire. My newspaper yesterday continued the unusual obit where an 82 year old actress has died; she was born in 1954....apparently.. Do I worry about bad maths and spelling? Yes, sorry I do ! I shouldn't, since our Son left Primary School with a reading age of 6; next door at the secondary school they were horrified. Now he is the Operating Director for Logistics in an international recruitment firm with a salary similar to those Littlewoods pools wins of many years ago !!!!

AUTHENICALLY A new word for us to add to our every-expanding vocabulary....... repeat after me, 'or then ick ally'...
  22. Evening all ! Just back from a two-night break at Warner's Corton Coastal Holiday Resort in Suffolk; the younger version of Mrs RhBBob bought it for last Christmas ! Superb break with great musical entertainment and splendid food and accommodation. Even better, the public conveniences in both Southwold and Lowestoft, Suffolk and Kings Lynn, Norfolk are plentiful and 'free'. Downsize ain't possible judging by the estate agents' windows in Southwold....ouch.
  23. Morning all ! Our plumber friend Martin and his Son Olly, sorted the ancient central heating yesterday and all is now warm - just in time as it has stopped raining about 15 minutes ago. Back lawn looks like an overgrown lake; this is the 'drier side of Britain' of course, or so it says in the Tourist bumf. At hospital for hearing test today - got out passport and driving licence to smooth matters in ENT. That line from John 'O Gaunt's speech in Richard II 'against the envy of less happier lands' springs to mind.
