  1. The princess should be in the shops two weeks from today
  2. To be fair the HST is probably the worst model so far however it can be improved (or left on the shop) I think the magazine's that come with the model have been very good on the whole though.
  3. For those still waiting their subscription copies my D11 and HST arrived today along with an N gauge French D51 1988 locomotive. No idea what it is some French kettle that worked the orient express or something. And after offending all the steam fans by calling it a kettle Hat, coat , kilt, sporran, runs for cover.
  4. I suspect if they had built driving coaches the front end would have looked like the power car cab Most of the platforms at Quuen street only hold 6 coaches so reduced sets or push pull. The refurbishment of queen street will extend the platforms so they can hold 8 coaches
  5. If only we had voted yes! Some of them were based in Scotland black 5 Deltic HST K3 Mallard flying Scotsman etc Oh and what about gas turbine locos they have not done any of those Tin hat, coat, kilt, gone.
  6. Just finished my HST quick recap I used filler on those dreadful seam lines on the cabsides I have repainted the yellow then weathered it. Looks better than it did, but it would be less effort to just buy a second hand Hornby HST and weather it.
  7. The Scotrail livery is non company specific and was specified by transport Scotland so the trains would not need repainted every time the franchise changed. Which is a very sensible idea. Scotrail do not currently have any HSTs the ones they will be getting are coming from either East coast once the IEP units are in service, or first great western once electrification is complete. So they will need to be painted in scotrail livery. They will also be refurbished, the doors on that drawing look as if they will be power doors.
  8. If anyone is wondering what to do with the HST you can now paint them in scotrail livery Abillio are going to use the real thing
  9. Not received my subscription yet
  10. I've just found this thread I know Carlisle station well spent many hours there and have driven in and out of there. I always admire the skill of scratchbuilders how they can take a sheet of plasticard and turn it into such an accurate and stunning model.I wish I could do that. Fantastic model making I'm very impressed.
  11. Thought I would have a mess around with the HST the horrible seam line under the cab is the most obvious fault. I used some humbrol filler which I filed down and then used some sanding sticks to smooth it off. It worked well. I then painted it with warning panel yellow, as you can see my yellow and GBL yellow are not a match, so a repaint of the yellow is required. The photo below is where I am at just now. I also thought about removing the glazing and taking a file to the windscreen to correct the shape of it, however the glazing didn't want to come out and despite only using gentle pressure there is now a big crack in the centre of the windscreen. The point of doing this is to improve the model since I have it. However if you want a model of an HST I wouldn't use this model as a starting point
  12. I have to say the last few times I have been at the NRM I have been surprised how many empty roads there has been. I could understand putting trains out on loan if there was a lack of space but the main hall could have accommodated several more locomotives
  13. If they made 62 fighter aircraft will we end up with 62 locomotives? Time will tell I suppose. A class 37 would be nice as long as it's not based on the Hornby rubbish surely it's a great British locomotive. The diesel equivalent of the black 5
  14. The Hachette mk 1s scrub up ok here is a finished one next to an untouched one
  15. When I said two poor ones in a row I was thinking of the HST and the 45XX which is reckoned to be based on the lima model. Ironically it would be the first lima model they have copied, if only they had copied the lima HST!
  16. My big fear is that with two poor models in a row there will be a slump in sales Amercom might pull the plug. Not been to the shop to pick mine up yet but the photos don't look good. Cutting the cabs off to make prototype HST power cars is looking more and more like a good option. I wonder if the gap in the front fairing can be fixed either by gluing it together or using filler.
  17. I've not considered the transfers yet there is another issue with the grills on the side being difficult. I already have 4 of each model in the series ordered, didn't fancy messing my local newsagents around by reducing the number then increasing them again later.genisis models do the cabs fir the prototype HST
  18. So the HST is out next week pity it would appear to be the old Hornby version. I have an idea what to do with one but I won't give you any clues
  19. Hi Nick It was mentioned somewhere on here the plan was for 50 locos however I have not seen anything official from Amercom to confirm that. I rather suspect that they will continue to make them as long as they make a profit on them. When they cease to be viable that will be that, so we will have to wait and see how many they eventually make. To date there have been 16 locos 15 steam one Deltic. Issue 17 is the HST power car due out next week issue 18 is the 45XX a fortnight later, what follows that is anyone's guess though smiffy of this parish has posted a list many times although the situation is fluid. Many others have found Amercom difficult to deal with over the phone, however the two times I phoned them they were very Helpful. It may be easier to just buy the HST even though you don't want it and swap it for something else.
  20. Welcome back Weatheringman, hope your well we have missed you
  21. Dunno but we'll seen I don't have a SWMBO I wouldn't be allowed to use the kitchen like this if I did. And as for the coffee table in the lounge ......
  22. Hi Apollo regarding the bufferbeam they are not very well glued on you should be able to pull it off very easily. Then just glue it back on properly simple job.
  23. I have still only managed to get one director. The GCR red on the tender is done by the colour of the plastic that means it looks like errrr plastic. So I got some precision paints Great Central Railway red. I painted the red on the locomotive as well to ensure it matched the tender. When you strip the loco down you will find the boiler backhead is a Separate fitting I took the opportunity to paint it while it was out of the locomotive. Other jobs were to remove the front buffer beam and refit it, and to add coal to the tender. One thing to watch is the locomotive steps are separate fittings and two fell off, easy enough to glue back on.
  24. If anyone is wishing to do some painting precision paints do GCR colours http://www.phoenix-paints.co.uk/precision-paints/railway-colours/colours-for-the-pre-grouping-companies-pre-1923/great-central-railway.html
