  3. I Never knew that Balfour Beatty were in to producing Pylons till Paul mentioned the companies involved in producing them... I'm amazed there are so many companies that are involved I would have thought this type of work would have been carried out my a single Government Recommended Comany that to appoint so many, I guess these are based on geographically... like Balfour Beatty BB, Blaw Knox BK, British Insulated Callendar Cables BICC and JL Eve JLE and Central Electricity Generating Board CEGB, as Paul pointed out. I had a family member who worked for Balfour Beatty but he was a big Sales / Buyer within the company and making £Millions£ Pound Deals for the Company that is why I notice Balfour Beatty company over any others stated, and I kind of amazed what they are involved in, I thought it was all Railway related but oh no... Interesting who does what or who gets which contracts in this world. Thanks to Paul and Pylon King... Regards Jamie
  4. WHAT.... Eh... YOU MAD... or Just Brave lol haha Haha Yeah... like a slow motion saying.... NOOOOOOOOoooooooo Only TAKE A RAZOR to do that on Two Possibilities ONLY.... 1 - Only if it's necessary, and 2 - Only as a last resort ONLY.... haha Regards Jamie
  5. Hi Rob Ah brilliant, cheers for that information mate, much appreciated and clears that question up for me, and for a few others to, no doubt. Regards Jamie
  6. Hi Anthony Books that may be of Interest... for Track Plans, Photos and plenty of details, Example being in the Bangor Book in my previous Post of the Track Plan of Bangor Station c1926... Regards Jamie
  7. Hi Anthony Love those hanging rods for the layout below genius... It's gave me a few good idea's for when I get round to starting my layout, I have the Boards all done, but only on 12ft x 9ft '6inch and in OO-Gauge foe me. The foot bridge I of many of both in Full and in sections, as regards and of the main building on the station I have taken many of that in sections from the opposite platform so I can differently upload those if those will help you... With regards to the Sheds in Bangor, I have a few but like I said it's all car park now but saying that the Sheds are all still standing or certainly Two but would need to look have many stood back in the good old days as they say, just no track work. It's a tough one as I only moved to the North Wales back in 2004 and then I got divorced in 2008 and family expected me to sell up and go back to the West Midlands but I fell in love with the Mountains and Scenery and back to the railways I loved of trains from my childhood memories kicked in, along with taking Photographs of the scenery. In 2008/9, I joined a local Model club but sadly it fell apart due to lack of member's but I was quick to pick up on the amount of attention to details that modeller's like to have on the layout, along with accuracy on detail, I was also quickly noticed how you can't do that, because of this or that, or that is not correct etc., because, you can't run that because it's the wrong era or that wasn't built then etc., blah blah blah. I came to understand that was Typical Modellers Talk or politics lol I then started a bit of a mission on taking on more detailed photos as some kind of proof it existed etc., as I started to understand how modellers pull things apart in the real world so to speak and so by taking my photos of the Railway Infrastructure and Railway Building and their changes over the time I have been living there but that would mainly be form of Liveries and what Trains have ran on the North Wales Coast line since I have lived in North Wales, I have slowly built up a good library of photos for modelling purposes. If I have not got it, then I do tend to go out with my camera and take photos of the close-ups needed to fill in any gaps in details of buildings on a specific station etc.. So if there are photo's that you want and I don't have them, I'm more than happy to take a drive out on the sunny days haha, well that 8 months of the year stuck in the house then haha lol... compared to the sunny days you must get in Brisbane, I bet its lovely every day of the year. I'm become a bit of a Railway book collector in this same period on all things Railways of North Wales, and there are some by W.G. REAR (by Foxline Publishers) but I have and they are highly recommended, with photo's and Full Track Plans on every station that each book covers. There is an absolute excellent Railway Book Shop in the world personally, and is in Porthmadog and ran by Steve who does a lot a Model Shows and major show events to help keep the WHHR Running, that's the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway (WHHR) at the Full Mainline Railway Station end of Porthmadog, as appose to the other end of Porthmadog where you have the Welsh Highland Railway (WHR) which runs from Caernarfon to Blaenau Ffestiniog via Porthmadog. (Not to get them mixed up) The Book shop and I do say this just about everyone who is looking for a Railway Book on just about anywhere in the world, then Search for Welsh Highland Heritage Railway, there railway only runs for about half Mile, but I often go for a Cuppa-Tea and browse through the books, but Steve will be your man or check out online shop and website etc., Nice chatting to you Anthony, no doubt we will chat again over time as I upload the photos you may require, if that is OK with you and helps you out, but will never be offended if not. Just say what you want photos of and I will see what I can find for you, I'll be amazed if I don't have some kind of near or distant photo of what you need. Bangor Station c1926 Regards Jamie
  8. Hi Anthony I think Bangor Station and Engine Sheds and Wagon Sheds must have been awesome back in the days when it was all in working order and so many tracks going off in to sheds etc,. Sadly all as been take up and is now a Long Stay Car Park on the Sheds side of the station which was only done fairly recently in the last 10 years or so. Holyhead Station was another great place from old photos I look at to, there were loads of tracks going off in every direction but again the A55 Bypass is all you see in its place today. I have the Close-ups of the RHTT photo in my library of photos on here, RMWeb at Holyhead Station. I only have modern photos of what it is today. Regards Jamie
  9. Wow Anthony... Impressive... and Detailed. Penmaenmawr Railway Station is now a Listed Building, so at least it will remain the building it always as been, back Early 2013 the Station Building went up for sale for £159,000 and I was a bit cob smacked as it's not something you see for sale (well Can't say I have ever seen a railway building for sale) but by September 2013 It was up for Sale for £119,000, it was SOLD not sure if the occupier's are huge lovers of the Railways or Not... But it was kept in good form after the sale... and the Architecture of the station still remains, which I pleased about... as seen in October 2013 Looking toward Llandudno Looking toward Bangor The Second Window (Door Way, but Access onto the station) now there is a Parrot in the Window and normally out of it's cage when I have been on in the past since it's sale of the station property and still a working platform and trains still stop all be it, requested now I think now. I do like the Architecture of this building to model on, I have to say. I have a load of Close-Ups of this building and the Signal box which is now all Boarded Up and of the Foot Bridge...! If you need any of them as a reference point to model etc,. Hope the photos help in some way... Regards Jamie
  10. Oh OK, so APT-P TU Coach in every Mirror so to speak... Do we know what Seating was for the (TU, Trailer Unclassified) as in Tartan Pattern in the TU Coaches had, Red Second or Blue First or 50/50...? Regards Jamie
  11. Would not these Pylon Strings be from 'Electric Mountain' in Llanberis, with the Huge Hollow Space within the Mountain and 20 miles of road ways to enable access to all levels of the Four or Six Turbines and water pipes etc from the Top Lake to the Bottom Lake in Llanberis via the Turbines. [to create the 1.21 Giga Watts of Electricity we need to power the Flux Capacitors we need Eh... Sorry moved over to Doc Brown and Back to the Future lol] I would have thought Pylons that side in Llanberis are 'Electric Mountain' related or is that not the case...? It's very interesting, I have to say, I'd love to take photo of the Top Lake, buy Ray (Near Pentir) says its quiet guarded to get to... so maybe not, but next time i'm out that way I may take a few photos. Maybe Drone it would be better, I'm just outside 5 Miles of Caernarfon Airport, so that would be good and I've now qualified with all the new Drown Regs... and yearly Fee's that stepped in from October 31st, 2019. I have two registered drones I can Fly now each with there Licence Number visable. It's all politics now sadly, if I want to within 5 miles of any airport as small as Caernarfon Airport is, if I fly within set Miles, then I need permission off the Local Airport which is just not worth going there now... a load of forms to fill in and for an Hobby like model railways I can only see it getting worse or dearer. I have had to stop droning the Bontnewydd Bypass progress since November 1st due to being 2 Miles from the Airport which is a bit of a bummer to say the least. The Bigger Airport like Manchester, Gatewick or Hearthrow then the exclusion zone is 10 Miles... I can take photos for personal use but can not sell any of them as I will then need a Not Only do you need a Operator-Licence (that Enables you to Own a Drone) but also a Flyer-ID Licence (which enables you to then Fly a Drone), but you will need a Commercial Licence if you wish to sell photo or any video footage taken, which is just more money, extra exams... more expense... it's NUTS. I understand why they are doing it, to a degree, (it to get rid of the Hobbyist personally). Regards Jamie
  12. I understand that Trawfynydd is just South of Porthmadog and a Lake with huge Concrete structure of the old Nuclear Power Station which the decommissioning of the nuclear power station back in 1991 in North Wales at Trawfynydd, So in the photos I have posted above from the start of the thread tonight of the long string of Pylons taken near to where I live, those go off towards Porthmadog and possible originally came from Trawfynydd Nuclear plant then... Regards Jamie
  13. Hi Paul That the very first thing you taught me and became interested ever since, I know that now, see I did listen lol TYPE 1 You get the Pylons that Start of a New Cable as in Photo below... and you see the Looping (Is there a Technical word for that connecting One Cable to Another Cable) by looping, I'm referring to the dangling cables that come off One Side of the Pylon and Loop under and Across to the Other side of the Pylon to connect to the next New Length of Cable. {where the Insulator are Horizontal} [Sorry I only have a close up of what I uploaded earlier,... in thread above] (I'll have to get that sorted out lol) Then You get TYPE 2 Then you have the Pylons where the {where the Insulator are Vertical} as seen in the Photo Below That I do understand is pretty straight forward every time I look at a Pylon now. Regards Jamie
  14. Hi Paul Thanks for that mate, so how long is the average length of cables per run, about 1000m/3300ft or 500m/1640ft...? Regards Jamie
  15. Doh! To Simon Sorry Simon... ah the Wirral so a none Scourer then... I sometime go over to Birkenhead MRC on Friday Nights, and when I first went to visit, all I could hear was a load of lar lars, as my brother would put it, I mistakenly said Scourers as that's what they all sounded like to me lol WHAT...! Never again... Scourers are the other side of the Mersey in a true Scourer ascent... came back the answer... Never call them Scourers on this side of the Mersey is all I took away with me that night, along with Calm Down, Calm Dow Ehhhh...! I found it funny and could only relate to me being from the Black Country in the West Midlands and calling me a "Brummy"... What...! That was the only comparison I could take from it lol Good job both ascents are equally as bad lol ... that, and we all have great sense of humour haha...! To Anthony and Sorry Anthony, getting you mixed up with Simon in Comments above, I do apologise....! Regards Jamie
  16. Hi Great Layout and progress, Can't beat B&W Photo's... Love your Scratch buildings and the Loco Choice you are running to. Regards Jamie
  17. In the words of Only Fools and Horses... I bet you wish you wen't private na don't ya...!
  18. That was funny.... Eh... NO...! Did you not read the instructions... either....! What... haha Oh well hey... Sorry for finding that funny... Love your minimal choice of words... Regards Jamie
  19. Hi to All... Would I be correct in saying there were Two APT-P Buffet Cars aka TRBS on most of the bigger Rakes of the APT-P, One each side of the Centre Power Cars aka N-DM Cars...? and both were 2nd class Buffet Cars with no First Class Buffet Cars... Hmmm (I'm guessing that would make it a TRBF) Taking the TRBS the S = Second Class that is...!?! Were they always placed 3rd/4th in from DTS end of the 7 Coaches to the N-DM... (Inclusive) or could this differ depending on the Rake Formations at the time...? Also Regarding to the APT-P TU Coach APT-P TU (Trailer Unclassified) coach were these more of an oddity APT-P coach to have or put in the APT-P Rake, making more of the APT-P TS coaches and APT-P TF coaches with fewer or none APT-P TU Coaches in any One Rake at all...? Regards Jamie
  20. Hi All These are few Pylons up by me in North Wales, Explain this one that Seems to Turn a fair bit as appose to Connecting Straight in a Long Line of Pylons as you will see in photos lover down... Close up of the Turning Pylon, I remember the Angle of the Turn had something to do with it...!?! and were there two types of Angles, if so... (are both in any photo I have missed below...) and Is that across the board of all Pylon companies to...? Nebo TV Mast (I have Close-ups of this to...) of the TV Mast to bounce only 34 Channels over to Ireland in Distance according to my TV Arial Guy I had out recently... As well as the Turning Squared Top Pylon (Nearest to the camera) in the Photo Below the Last Pylon on the Left and a second Pylon which is the first one in the distance to the Right of the Squared Top Pylon on far Right (foreground or Nearest to Me) in this photo, are two Pointed Tipped if that's the word for it... What do those Pylons mean... (See... Furthest away in the string of Pylons and the one on the Far Left) Both have pointed Tops... See more Photos lower down... to see Pointed Tops a bit clearer... Pointed Top Pylons in the Above Photo, See the Left Most Pylon in the string of Pylons and the Third Pylon to the Right of Nebo Mast... I also have a feeling the Lowest one on the Horizon, if you Follow the string of Pylons to the furthest point may also be Pointed Top Type Pylon but can not be sure in the Photos attached. Is there a word for a String of Pylons or do you go Pylon cable lengths etc... Hmmm as One Cable Re-Joins another about every 3rd/4th Pylon although I know that is not always the case and I have plenty of those types to. Hope that is clear in the way I have worded it, sorry I don't know them by name lol Regards Jamie
  21. Hi Eden Road TMD I've just ordered some of the The Accurascale Rawie buffer stops from Hatton's as they have just had a new batch in. I like your Dapol Class 68 - Transpennine Express livery, have you ordered the Mk5 Coaches from Accurascale ...? I think its a great Livery...! Regards Jamie
  22. Hi Simon Thank for that information Simon, a very descent size layout to, impressive, I'm be going to the Colwy Bay MRC with there show towards the mid/end of the year (2020) as they put an a good show on. I last saw most of them at the Prestatyn and Rhyl MRC back in December 7th, 2019. I take it before you moved to OZ that you lived along the North Wales coast line then as the Area's you are modelling must come from your younger days on Holiday or Living close. Its One of the Best Railway Rides by Train once you leave Chester as my Dad always used to say and much preferred to travel up by train than by car, but then any excuse to use the Train. He would say to Mom, no love... the car is not big enough for all these suitcase, we better go by train... haha... Trouble is we don't get much running nowadays, the WAG Train runs down to Cardiff Central and the Nuclear Flasks every Thursday @7:30 to 8:00 then catch then going back around 3-4 o'clock in the afternoon and always DRS Class 57's Doubleheader normally occasionally Class 20 and or Class 57 together which always seems odd combination as I'm so use to a Pair of Class 20's but that as been fairly rare and tends to be 57's. This time of year we get the Weed Killer aka RHTT which was always Network Rail Class 37's aka 97303/97304 normally and have plenty of photos of it at Holyhead but seems from 2/3 or so years ago, last year and this year it seems to have gone over to Class 56 in Colas Rail Livery. Regards Jamie
