  1. I know that little cottage with the yellow windows, its on the A47 Thorney road going towards Guyhirn Used to stand in the middle of a field by its self, its now surrounded by great big barn type buildings, but its still there.
  2. For information the Broadway shed is in the Caravan Clubs Broadway site, it has been converted inside to be one of the toilet blocks, it still has the internal platform which has a load of pictures of the old line, a bit like a mini museum, there is also a Scammell Scarab 3 wheeler parked in there. Stayed on the site in our motorhome a few times, once at New Year and the wardens put on a party (bring your own beer) in the shed in the evening.
  3. I have used the contents of Tea Bags as undergrowth leaf litter, but I don't use used ones I just arf-inch a few new ones out of swmbo's jar. Not had any problems with mould, but then they are stuck down and sealed from the air by dilute pva.
  4. You could colour the cream clapboard with watercolour paint after you have applied it, I have done this with clapboard and also re-coloured TX16 Grey Stone wall a more Cotswolds colour using watercolours.
  5. Please don't, please just buy it and get out of the magazine isle, it drives me mad when trying to pick up the weekly TV guide trying to get past everyone using the magazine isle as a library.
  6. I too would be interested in more information regarding the conductivity requirements of the glue, this is the first I have heard of this, but may be why my static applicator seems not to really work. Edit: The old applicator didn't work as it was faulty. Made a new one with a new fly swat and that works really well, using just plain old watered down PVA.
  7. And the pin head stops the pin being pulled through the hole, how would you stop that from happening using straight wire?
  8. If doing Market Harborough to Nothampton bring your bike, its a nice ride along the Brampton Valley Way, you will need your lights though for the two tunnels. Also some interesting disused stuff around Harborough as well as the Nothampton line, there was the Rugby line and the branch that went out down the Welland Valley to Peterborough. Also at the end of the Enderby branch the Quarry Lane is a bit of a give away as the line also served Enderby Warren Quarry.
  9. I recently built one of the Dapol ones, no real problems with flash. The worst Dapol kit I have built for flash was the Railbus model, but still not a real problem. I have painted it in a off white colour, and am pleased with how its turned out.
  10. Is it just me or do they seem very expensive
  11. The models look very good, wouldn't mind a go at them my self, I am a member on papermodelers forum, and there is some great stuff on there.
  12. Same here, I use the cheap stuff from poundland, and as long as what you are sticking it to is clean, dry & not dusty it sticks very well.
  13. Another method not mentioned is to make the canal bed from hardboard, shiny side up and then varnish that. You can adjust the colour of the hardboard with a few washes of brown acrylics first if required.
  14. We have a lift at work that lifts bulk bins of the steel nuts that we produce upto a hopper that is then fed by gravity and vibrating trays to the packing machine head. There is simply a bar at the point where the bin gets to the optimum point of tipping that the bin rest against as the lift stops, due to the way the lift goes up the rails (same as the coaling tower lift does) it is a very gentle transition as it actually tips the bin at the top and then lowers it again.
  15. This is listed at £14.99 on Maplins web site, I got a complete Piko single analogue controller including the mains transformer for £9.99 by looking out for sale items on the web, got it from Trains On Time. Not so cheap me thinks once you have got the rest of the parts together to make a complete controller. OTOH A.
  16. In a way just about all of our model railways are something that didn't exist in relation to the actiual trackplan and layout, as even if we are modelling a prototype we generally have to shorten or change it to fit it in. Love the loco, I have a old 040 that could do with a bit of a revamp, this has given me inspiration.
  17. I do like that Watlington one, also I have now had a re-measure, and am adding an extra board that will take the total length to 10ft. Thanks Andy
  18. Your replies are exactly why I am asking for assistance, as I hadn't even thought about what you are asking :-) Yes 00, I am thinking steam/diesel transition era, and as for origin, I hadn't given that much thought but my planned position for this board in the loft does really mean it needs to be a terminus so if that influences other factors then I am open to suggestions. And as per Kris's first offering I am looking to have trains entering from the right, and that plan has already given me spme ideas on the goods layout. Thanks
  19. Hi I am looking at starting a typical branch line terminus layout that I can build downstairs that will become part of my larger loft dwelling layout, my long term plan for the loft to retain interest in building it etc is to base it on smaller end to end/fiddle yard layouts that link together in the loft using a narrow shelf type of arrangement running round the edge, so that I have somewhere for trains to run off to. Based on the above plan and getting it throught the loft hatch I am looking at board size of 20" wide by four foot long each although I can bolt on additional scenic only areas (no track) once in the loft, I have built two boards that bolt together so am looking for some typical branch line plans based on approx 8 foot long by 20" wide to get my creative juices flowing. Any ideas? Thanks
  20. I made a couple of Daleks to sneak onto my fathers layout when he was on holiday. Used bic biro tops as the base, if you cut it in the right place it gives a very good interpretation of the shape of the bottom half of a Dalek and build from there, at normal viewing distance they really look the part.
  21. I agree wood texture sheets are useful, I have had good results making my own with this as an alternative. http://www.spiralgraphics.biz/ww_overview.htm
