  1. Well done to Hornby.....its the Simon Kohler effect.......:-) BTW, have missed the news that SK is back at Hornby, can someone enlighten me please ? James
  2. The factory code on the box is TEC05...
  3. Received my ROC today, its a fine runner, but... Wrong tender top, it should be the 5500 gallon type, Tender has strange paint finish marks on either side of it. The locomotive nameplate is too short (14mm) it should be in the region of 24mm. The original ends of the plate were upto and beyond the sand fillers. The loco box illustration is correct. The crest is wrong as well, it does not fill the frame correctly. Have attached some pictures hope they appear. Have raised the matters with the box shifter who supplied it and they tell me they are awaiting Hornby's response. I will not hold my breath....lol....
  4. A few years back Bachmann supplied a Standard 5 class loco with an incorrect tender, they sent out correct ones to purchasers. Come on Hornby, man up and send out the correct ones for ROC !
  5. Thanks John, just been catching up on the thread, primrose yellow it is then! I think a trip into the paint shop is needed, grey or grey dirty black I feel would be better. Cheers
  6. If it helps...I cut off the top of a cotton bud and discarded it. I then poked the flat stick end into a tin of tacky wax. I then picked up the folded route disc with the 'sticky stick' and this enabled me to poke it into the hole on the body. Bit tricky but got all done in about 20 mins.
  7. Your picture shows the roof yellow at one end and light sandstone ish colour to the right. My one has arrived with the yellow colour along all of the roof. Can you clarify what colour yours is yellow or sandstone ish, as I am sure you have not got one with a graded colour from one end to the other.
  8. 10203 in Green.....splendid model but hate the bright yellow roof ! I am sure the original photos showed it grey with dirt of course. Does any one know where these were made? Hornby or Bachmann factory ???
  9. Thanks railroad bill, will have alook a this as well, thank you.
  10. Thanks for the reply, I have examined and stripped the loco down, the front bogie has lift and is fitted with a small spring, the rear wheel however is hard up against a machined block which is part of the chassis. I think this where 'lift' is required. However, I am a bit reluctant to file more metal from it to create 'lift' in case the loco will end up not sitting horizontally. Perhaps I will try removing the rear wheel and see what happens.
  11. Very glad that Hornby have produced yet another rebuilt MN 35030 Elder Dempster Lines to add to my fleet of Bulleids. Glad that after 18 years of production the model is still selling. Sad though, at the hugely increased costs of purchasing one now and sad that Hornby have made no improvements to the model other than fitting a drawbar between the engine and tender. Come on Hornby, you can do better than that. What about a painted blackhead in the cab, cab doors and a new style tender coupling so that the company £150 plus price ticket can be justified. Any one else feel this way about 'progress' or would you wish for this model to be withdrawn ?
  12. I have a slippery radial as well, has anyone cured this problem ?
  13. Does anyone know what crane was at Nine Elms SR, any photos anywhere ?
  14. Sorry if I am being thick here, but the nameplates are from Fox, and they have the circular middle shipping crest pre fitted, have I got that right, many thanks
  15. Nice job, whose nameplates did you use ? I've looked at Modelmasters but they do not have the company circular crest on them, Cheers
  16. Does the Microsol affect the base green colour at all ?
  17. Has anyone else noticed that the Warflats are now £42.36 each, I think Bman are taking the preverbial pxxx, its a flat truck with a tank on it not a coach with sides and a roof with super detail ! Not impressed.....
  18. It is such a shame that Coreless motors are being favoured by certain manufacturers at the moment, they are pandering to the DCC brigade and I think there is still a big market for DC and feedback controllers, I have suspicions that it's all part of the commercial pressure being applied to force customers away from DC so that the business side of model railways can prosper in trying to get us to re-purchase everything again. Thank goodness Hornby still produce motors that are suitable for us in the DC world. The likes of DJ models could further enhance their products by supplying their models with non Coreless motors as well, they would sell more models that way. Their models are supurb in detail and finish and are a credit to but a non starter for us with feed back controllers. I cancelled all my preorders when I found out about this Coreless issue. It was too late to stop the O2 tank arriving, am yet to be brave enough to run it and see what happens to it, overheating I suspect. Not trying to open up a war here re DCC/DC. :-) but my four penny worth.
  19. Ian, If you re-read my post you will see that the controllers I have are not Gaugemaster. Unpalatable, no. I know the march of commercialism is advancing rapidly and I have looked long and hard at DCC but see no pleasure in it, and do not want to be pushed into it by manufacturers. With over 250 locos in the stud I wont be going there. I have had a model railway for now over 50 years and am staggered at the recent massive price hikes made by the industry, along with the buy it now or you wont have it attitude. I wish my pension would go up at the same rate. Merry Christmas from Luddite land.
  20. Dave, thanks for your reply, sorry but I did not realise you had a Ask Dave thread. As someone else has pointed out there are DC feedbacks that can cope with coreless motors, in fact I have a kit built S15 now for some years fitted with a coreless motor and it still runs fine on my trax controllers. I was purely asking if anyone has run an 02 with a feedback to see what the reaction was with this type of controller, as I said my layout is in boxes at the moment and will be rebuilt in the spring. thanks for your reply Dave and festive greetings to you and yours, I am afraid its going to be a long long time for this luddite to go over to the dark side of constantly pressing buttons on a remote control !
  21. Hi All, Luddite No 4 here DC forever...... My layout is a present in boxes following house move.... My two 02's have been delivered but alas cannot be run at the moment. My layout is all DC and the new one will be as well using Trax feedback controllers which in my opinion are the finest of their kind around, Now some people say dont use feedback controllers, others say it does not damage the coreless motor in any way, Question? Has anyone on here tried these new coreless motors with feedbacks, anyone know what happens, or not ?? I am amazed that Dave Jones has gone this route with coreless motors (no disrespect), as the other major suppliers are still on conventional can motors. I have cancelled my orders with him for the King and E5000 models because of this uncertainty about feedback controllers. I feel he is isloating a strong market of DC users with these motors. I have a couple of friends who also have cancelled there orders because of this and have purchased the Hornby versions and have no running problems at all. Not wishing to open up the old DC versus DCC argument, but why is he going down this route ? Anyone know ? please enlighten me do. Merry Christmas to all.

    Bachmann E4

Ok, having settled down from my initial annoyance about this rear axle on what is a very good model for all the reasons outlined by others here, I have checked and double checked the B2B on this axle and the loco will still not negotiate a peco 100 long crossing when running backwards. The axle reaches the frog and decides it wants to go `round the corner` which of course it will do because there is no springing arrangement to bias the axle into a straight line. It also `clicks` and jumps at most of my point work on the check rails or frogs. This is exactly the same problem as I have with the 56XX tanks as well. I do not think this arrangement by Bachmann is very intelligent, and I am sure they could have done something better. I am impressed with it haulage capabilities, it will drag 6 pullmans and observation car up my gradients with no problems, where as normally only a Hornby WC/BB or MN can do it without slipping.

A couple of us raised our concerns about the axle back in early 2014 but no one listens at Bachmann, I suspect that they never ever run the locos on a proper working layout that does not have billiard ball level track, if they did they would not turn out locos with problems like this. Ho hum, rant over.

Its a Bachmann abortion, got my model today, exceptional, but for the rear axle, its the same fitting as the previous GW tank, a loose axle floating around in a square hole in the chassis, it goes where it wants when it wants and has derailed many times when running backwards. All that money that they have rung out of us and the thing does not run properly. exceptionally disappointed with this design clever `feature`.
