  2. Thanks for giving me the correct location for the photo, I've altered the caption. It's also nice to know the identity of the person on the loco, I think I've read some of his work. David
  3. I often went to Leigh on Sea at the weekends when I lived in Basildon. The cockles and other seafood were always worth sampling. David
  4. Just testing you - actually a typo. Thanks for pointing it out. David
  5. The Tilbury line at Leigh on Sea this afternoon, most are from September 1974. The first four were taken in the first week or that I was in Essex, before my flat was ready and I was staying in digs in Leigh on Sea. I know one photo is really very poor but it shows a Class 304 MLV. 9. Correction - I've just looked at my own 1997 photos and have found that by August 1997 the crossing had gone, as can be seen in my photo below - I think it had only just been done. Montreux view west 17th Aug 97 C22991 David
  10. Hi Keith, It was indeed taken from the end of the platform. Looking at Google Earth image for 1997 (which only has a partial coverage of Montreux in photos) it appears to show the level crossing still in situ. I think the road crossing the line was the Rue de la Gare. David
  11. Yes, it is Dad. At the time he was just starting to walk around a bit after quite a serious heart attack. Later he had heart surgery - I think it was about 7 bypasses - at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle and lived until 2005. You could well be right about the loco number, I can convince myself that both 47453 and 47463 are correct! I went with 47453 as that is what I wrote down on the day, but it is very easy to get it wrong when trying to take a photo and read the number. Thanks too for the coach identification. David Thanks very much for your work on the coach identification. David

  13. The first set for today, somewhat late as I fell asleep after lunch - I seem to have a virus which although improving has left me feeling very weak and incredibly tired. 15. Another Scottish miscellany for today's photos. Vert often when either Dad or I visited Scotland we would only spend a day or so in each place so we could get to the far north and west (both of us don't/didn't just like railways). This means that for a lot of locations there will only be one or two photos, taken while travelling from one place to another. Of course sometimes there wasn't even a train to photograph. Indeed sometimes there wasn't any track left either. 22. The Deltic number was indeed a typing error. It could very well be a down train, it's a few years since I've been to the station, but I'll amend the caption. Thanks Jim and 35A for trying to identify the Class 40, I'll go with 40101. The date looks about right. David
  23. This evening's photos were taken by Dad at Darlington in 1975. The first four were taken on his arrival in Darlington for a weekend visiting Stockton and Darlington Railway locations organised by the RCHS, SLS and NER Society as a part of S&D 150 anniversary. The final photo was taken on his way home from the S&D 150 Cavalcade at Shildon. He had been there as a part of the team with Flying Scotsman. Note that the Class 40 in the second photo is still in green livery.
