  1. Back tot he West Coast Main line at Hillmorton today for some more photos of electrics taken over a fairly long period of time. 5. Hi Lee, All my Bowes photos are in preservation days so I don't think I can help you. Edit - PM sent David
  6. I've just had a close look at the original scan and am inclined to think you are right so I've changed the caption. It's one of Dad's photos so I think he must have written down the wrong number when he took the photo - easy to do as I've often done it. Many thanks, David
  7. Thanks Mark. Sunday makes sense as I was probably about to catch a train to go back to Manchester after visiting family for the weekend near Nottingham David
  8. There are a couple of photos already in this thread - the quickest way to find them is to search for "Barrow on Soar" as I can't remember when I posted them. Edit : I posted them on 28th May 2014 and 8th Feb 2015. As far as I know the only other ones I have are modern digital ones and I shan't get around to using those for a long time as I have several years worth of slide scans to use first. David
  9. Some photos from a journey along the FO from Andermatt towards Disentis today. The first one is a bit like Mike's view from yesterday above Andermatt, but mine was higher up the incline. It also shows how much better modern cameras are than slide film with it's grain. As the train approached the top of the pass at Oberalppasshöhe the weather closed in, as so often happens. At least this time it didn't snow - once I arrived there in August to be greeted by a heavy snow storm and a crowded cafe full of people in summer clothes trying to get warm. 12. While watching a TV programme about building a fish and chip shop at Beamish which uses real coal fired ranges and fries fish and chips in dripping I had a quick look at the 1972 ER Sectional Appendix. It states (p206 on for those who have a copy) Highdyke to Sproxton. Electric Token receiving and dekivering apparatus at Colsterworth Mines, for Down and Up trains, situated " near box", apparatus for receiving the token, which is an automatic version for use with suitably equipped locomotives. Also one for delivering the token for the section ahead, both down and up. For the section from Skilllington Road to Stainby there was a Token instrument adjacent to stop board at Stainby, the Guard or Secondman was authorised to receive or deliver the token. I can't find reference to anything at High Dyke box. From pages 43 to 45: High Dyke to Skillington Junction was electric token. Skillington Junction to Sproxton was "One train only". Skillington Junction to Stainby was electric token. Brush Veteran got there first! David
  13. I thought that too, but 47s were also used, they never had catchers. David
  14. I don't think there ever was any lineside token apparatus on the High Dyke branch. I never noticed any when I had an unofficial cab ride in a 47 most of the way along it. Later when I went along it in the preservation period there was no evidence of anything. Also if you look at the last photo in today's set, J3241, the second man is holding the hoop (presumably with a token attached to it) for a token exchange. The sticker on the 31 says "Immingham 40B" David

  18. Thanks again Mark. I am envious of your knowledge of the train ID's and timings - you must have a good collection of the working timetables of the period. Most of my Eastern and London Midland Region ones are from the 1980s. David
