  1. Today's are a final view of permanent way work at Harrogate and a few of Dent on the Settle and Carlisle. I think I took these as Dad was thinking of modelling the station. They have appeared before in the Dent layout thread Harrogate Class 08 and tracklayer June 66 Dent up platform building July 66 Dent station building July 66 Dent station building platform side July 66 David Edited as my keyboard can't spell. 2. Yes, it is a small trackside allottment, in the photo of Dad's below you can see a pw hut which the allotment was next to. Presumably it "belonged" to the local pw gang. Harrogate Class 46 D171 White Rose Harrogate to Kings X April 66 J471 David
  3. Paul, I've taken a piece of the original scan at full resolution (from the photo in post 28 of the relayer), the number is clearly 480. Image below. Crop of Scan-121001-0041 Track relayer 480 David
  4. Some more PW ones this evening. 3 of the photos are of a tamper but I like the human interest in them. Harrogate scarifying ballast June 66 Harrogate tamper June 66 Harrogate tamper again June 66 Harrogate tamper leaving June 66 David
  5. Some more of the p w work at Harrogate this evening. I remember that I only found out that the track was being relayed when one Sunday morning there seemed to be a lot of noise at the railway, looking out of my bedroom window I could see an 08 so went to investigate. Those who know Harrogate well will probably be able to work roughly where I lived back then! 8. Four more for today. I hope you like the people at the Middleton Railway. The Deltics were taken from the Dad's Jaguar Mark 9 on the A1 as we were heading south. Obviously I was not driving, I would have been sitting in the back and took them through the window. The crane at York captioned as a misty day was also bitterly cold with a lot of frost and a few damp patches. For some reason I must have decided to take the train from Harrogate to York for the day to watch trains. I don't think I'd do it in that weather nowadays. 9. This evening I'm making a start on my 35mm negatives. Early in 1965 my parents moved to Harrogate, I joined them in the summer after staying for several months with friends to take my O levels. That summer I was given a Yashica Minister 2D - the link to flickr (not my site on it) gives some details of it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/32113303@N07/3183447333/ Most of the photos were taken on Ilford FP3 (100ASA) or HP3 (400ASA) negative film. I found I could afford about 1 film a month while in the sixth form and later at University. Some years ago I sold most of my negatives, some RM Webbers own a number of them. Having checked I still have about 250 most of which I will use in this thread. I will not be posting copies of anything I have sold. They are a mix of steam and diesel (mainly diesel) together with a number of specials. There are also some trams, preserved locos and miniature railways. They cover the period September 1965 to May 1969 when I changed to colour slides. They are not in strict chronological order but most are dated. A number have been on RMWeb or flickr before but never all together and I have taken the opportunity to re scan them using Vue Scan software with my Minolta Scan Dual III which is giving much better results. They are not all technically brilliant but I hope they will give a taste of the period and that at least some will be useful. So here are the first four. 10. I got back rather too late last night from the camera club to post any images. This evening's are at Grantham around 1963 and are the last of the Brownie 127 images. From the next batch we'll be looking at photos taken on 35mm film with a decent camera. 15. Some months ago I wrote in my thread of Dad's photos that in due course I would scan my black and white negatives, or at least the ones I still have - I sold a lot of them a few years ago. I know some are in the hands of RMWeb members. I've at last made a start on them and will gradually add them to this thread - but it will probably certainly not be every day. The first twenty or so are from my Brownie 127, so don't expect quality! The images taken from 1965 are on 35mm film so will be much better. When I first had the Brownie I was about eleven, so film was a special treat. I can't remember the price of film, but a surviving negative wallet gives the film development price as 2 shillings. I always did my own printing. The first four are below. I eventually learnt not to cut off the front of locos! 16. Congratulations, I've always enjoyed your writing. I must have started reading MRC a few years before you started working for IA. These days I particularly enjoy your editorship of Steam World. David

I didn't think the P2's had any daylight under the boiler - at least not on any photos I've seen of the prototype. David
  18. I'm enjoying finding out the actual vehicles in this parcels train as they are two of Dad's photos. 19. There are several hundred photos taken in Essex between 1974 and 1980 in my flickr sets, you can find them on these pages: http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidwf2009/sets/?&page=2 http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidwf2009/sets They include the LT&S, GER Shenfield to Colchester, GER Marks Tey and Sudbury branch, Colchester to Ipswich and the Felixstowe branch, GER Manningtree to Harwich, Liverpool Street to Shenfield, Eastern Essex Miscellany. I hope you can find them and enjoy looking at them.

  21. The Jidenco/Falcon Class B can be built, below is a photo of one I built 30+ years ago. One day I will sort out the "temporary" repair to the crosshead and piston rod! The one in the background is a 7mm scale version from (I think) Loveless parts, again built around 15 years ago. Neither is perfect but they give me a lot of pleasure - and they both work well. David Edited for spelling again. D
  22. English Electric Type 4 (Class 40) D390 on up goods at Chaloners Whin Junction circa 1966 (I have a more accurate date but cannot find the print with the notes on the back at the moment). David
  23. As far as I know (it's a few months since I was in that part of the county) there haven't been many changes to the remains of stations on the North Easter's Alnwick to Coldstream line. If it has an island platform I think you must be thinking of Whittingham, which I believe was sold recently so things may change there. Photos around there will appear in another thread in due course. David
  24. As I'm sure most people know the North British Border Counties Railway ran from Riccarton Junction to just west of Hexham. There was also the "Wannie" line from Reedsmouth (or Redesmouth) Junction to Morpeth, which had a branch from Scotsgap Junction to Rothbury. There is a thread here on the Border Counties line: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/39128-border-counties-railway/ Having lived in Northumberland for over thirty years I have a number of photos of the remains of the ex NBR and thought it was worth starting a new thread to put them on RM Web. The images will also appear on flickr. Images will be added as and when I get time (and when I take new ones). Contributions and comments from everyone are welcome. I'll start with a few I took this afternoon on the Rothbury branch while I was visiting Fontburn Reservoir. The place names should be sufficient for most of you to work out where they were taken, if not I'll try to remember to add OS Grid references.
