  1. I have looked at some reviews for 3D scanners and it would appear that everything under $1000 is rubbish and you have to pay a lot more money to get a decent result. Has anybody bought a 3D scanner that they are happy with and how much did you pay for it ?
  2. Who else has built this kit ? I am having problems getting the planking sides (yellow) to fit the frames (brown) from behind. Some of the pieces fit but others are not even close.
  3. How are the 3D printed wagons designed to take wheels/bearings ? The sole bars are already part of the chassis. In the wagon below from Shapeways, it is probably just a push fit like any Hornby or Bachmann wagon with no bearings required but I am not sure about other wagon chassis by other makers. https://www.shapeways.com/product/XCFQCJUQX/gwr-cordon-part-7-chassis?optionId=62578762&li=marketplace
  4. I have looked at Blender and I even downloaded it to my computer with the intention of using it but it is just too advanced for me. At this stage I need something a bit more user friendly.
  5. I sent an email to the company about Fusion 360 and they said that Autodesk no longer sell any software at a one time cost ie. you have to buy it then renew it every year. I will investigate Sketchup first and see how that goes as many people seem happy with it.
  6. I have looked at the Australian website for Fusion 360 and it offers you a 1 month or 12 month option to buy it. Does that mean you have to keep paying money when the term expires ?
  7. I spoke to somebody today who uses Autodesk123 for 3D design and printing... but not for model trains. Has anybody tried this software ? It looks like it would be easier to learn than Blender.
  8. I was just curious, more than anything else. Perhaps they could be persuaded to make a promotional video on youtube ?
  9. Falcon Brassworks have their own website. Is there a problem there as no kits are being listed at all ? I think I read on another thread something about this.
  10. That was my next question : how different is the Dapol RTR cattle wagon from the GWR version ? ...or perhaps Coopercraft will get his new machine working
  11. With the loss of the Coopercraft 4mm wagon kits, what do I do for a GWR cattle wagon ?
  12. Thanks for the information. Yes, I agree : I am happy to pay the money provided that the software can do what I want. More accurately, as long as I can learn how to use it so that it will do what I want ! I have seen 2016 versions of Turbocad Pro for sale on ebay (Australia) for $300.
  13. I thought locos made by all manufacturers would at least get a few runs of the test track at the factory before being shipped off but it looks like I was wrong. Surely it would not add too much to the cost of each loco to do this ? Do Hornby and Bachmann test their locos at the factory ?
  14. Andy : could you elaborate a bit more on why you think Turbocad Pro is better than Blender ? I am in the process of evaluating 3D software with a view to buying a 3D printer...probably the Anycubic i3 Mega. NOTE : It would appear that Turbocad Pro is free : is this correct ?
  15. ''Anycubic''....again ! I am researching 3D printers with a view to buying one and that is a brand name that keeps coming up. Does it work well with Blender software ?
  16. BCS : what sort of 3D printer do you have and what plastic was used to make that ? It looks like it has a very smooth finish.
  17. How about some Hydras, Serpents or Loriots (GWR) ? I think I read somewhere that these were once some of the most numerous types of wagons running in the UK but I can see nothing available as either RTR or in kit form. There used to be....but not now. NOTE : I would have thought this would be a no-brainer for Oxford as it would tie in nicely with their vehicles and farm machinery models.
  18. When did private owner wagons first appear and when did they start to be phased out ? Were they present in the pre-grouping era ?
  19. You are welcome Ian. The hardest thing about this job was working up the courage to do it : you need to take a very deep breath before hacking into a brand new loco with a Dremel tool . Here is the tender coupler set at the correct height. I will touch up those pieces of white plastic with some paint tomorrow. Butler : I did think about thinning the front Kadee down a bit but that would not leave too much as it is not all that thick to start with. I might give it a go tomorrow ; I have plenty of spare Kadees on hand.
  20. I have finished attaching a Kadee to the front bogie of the LOTI loco. It is about 1mm too high but I can live with it as I will not be using the front coupler very much. A touch of paint should cover up that bright screw head. I am also half way through fitting a Kadee 146 to the tender....just waiting for the glue to dry on the plastic supports. The tender coupler will be at the correct height.
  21. What sort of glue are you using ? I have ordered some plastic magic but it has not arrived as yet.
  22. Does that mean that they cannot be removed ? I might try what Harold suggested but I am reluctant to do anything too radical as it may damage the bogie. This is one loco that Hornby should have updated before its release. I would love to see a Bachmann version !
