  1. I have been given the option of buying some Model & Leisure white metal loco kits. Is anybody familiar with them as I have not heard the name before ? Are they reasonable or rubbish ?
  2. Is it possible to use the Cambrian SECR twin bolster wagons (C109) as a starting point to make a pair of GWR Mites ? What are the main points of diffference ? http://cambrianmodels.co.uk/lbseswkits.html
  3. Is that the tool post to the left/rear ? What does the cutting tool look like ie. how big is it ?
  4. After casting, I assume that the wheels would have been turned on a lathe...a big one ! Any photos of this being done?
  5. 1. In the GWR pregrouping era, which was the most common wagon wheel : open spoke or plain spoke ? 2. What was the point of the open spoke wheels ? They must have been more complicated to make so did they offer any advantage ?
  6. I am surprised that Bachmann have never offered it in the original livery. It sounds quite attractive.
  7. What years does this ''Great Western'' livery cover ? http://www.hattons.co.uk/82889/Bachmann_Branchline_32_131_Class_45xx_2_6_2_Prairie_tank_4539_in_Great_Western_green/StockDetail.aspx What would the original livery have been in 1906 when first constructed ?
  8. That may not be quite true. The Chinese were not making any Australian HO until some Australians went looking for a factory in China to make models for them. Quite a few companys seem to be doing that here now. I assume that they are making a profit as they are always announcing new models. China is a big place and the manufacturers there can't be expected to recognise every business opportunity available overseas. Sometimes you have to take the idea to them first.
  9. How does that happen ? I thought you only burnt out decoders if you wired it up incorrectly.
  10. Sorted ! I had to go into the phone shop to recharge so I asked the lady on the counter. I swiped down and showed her all the facebook alerts ; she then pointed out that at the bottom of the screen in small letters was the word ''clear'' which I then pressed and everything went away. Why I had never seen that option before is a mystery. I guess we always look for a complicated solution.
  11. It is friend notifications. I dont know half these people . The other half I dont want to know. I am also not interested in the puppy and cat photos ! OKAY : I have gone into my facebook page on the computer and I think I have changed the settings so nothing else will come through. Now I just have to work out how to clean up the phone. Facebook says go into the applications manager and tap on the facebook app but that is not on my phone. That is where I get lost : I have no facebook app.
  12. I have tried to sign out from the phone but there does not seem to be a facebook app on my phone.
  13. My wife set up a Facebook acoount for me last year which I never use. How do I get rid of all the alerts, notifications and friend requests from my Samsung Galaxy J3 phone ?
  14. That is the one I want but I don't think they are available anymore from ABS.
  15. So living in the tropics (Cairns) might cause some problems due to the high levels of temperature and humidity in summer ?
  16. Does anybody produce a 4mm GWR wagon kit of a single bolster wagon ? I think the code for them may have been ''Mites''. I was sure I had seen some in the past but I cannot find any now. I am fairly certain that it has never been available as RTR.
  17. I have had a look around and done a bit of reading on 3 D printing for model trains. I have selected BLENDER as useful software and this printer on ebay/Australia for the hardware. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. The reason I selected this printer is because it looks as though it will give quite a smooth finish compared to some others I have seen. I do realise that you can't always trust pictures ! https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CTC-3D-Printer-Dual-Extruder-MK8-Factory-Direct-Lowest-Price-ABS-PLA/122938194027?hash=item1c9faff86b:g:lrgAAOSwTM5Yx6ij
  18. Were the screw link couplers used on coaches different to the screw link couplers used on steam locomotives during the pre-grouping era (GWR) ? Who makes the best 4mm screw link couplers ?
  19. Regarding the earlier, red frame version with a round firebox : would this just involve changes to the boiler or are there many other differences in the earlier versions of the Dean Goods ?
  20. Then why do the H&M controllers perform so much better than most of the modern ones...especially when it comes to slow speed control ?
  21. And 12 o'clock is off.....reverse is to the left and forward is to the right : I find this so much more intuitive than the forward/reverse switch that most DC controllers have.
