  1. So that livery is correct (or almost) for which years ? I am sorry if this has been covered before.
  2. I did ask a question relating to an ad for their new product but I think it got lost in the retirement and non-retirement news : How does their new waterslide product work ? They claim it will adhere to a matt surface ie. the model does not need a gloss coat before applying the transfer.
  3. Then why on Earth did they produce it ? Surely they research this sort of thing before it even gets to the earliest stage of design/planning ?
  4. A real minefield : model railways is not for pedants !
  5. Which era is this colour scheme ie. what years does it cover ? https://railsofsheffield.com/products/30371/oxford-rail-or76dg001-oo-gauge-dean-goods-2309-gwr
  6. Most of the time it is fine. Sometimes it sounds lousy but I usually hang up and try again in 10 minutes ; that usually works. You certainly can't complain about the price !
  7. No, you will still get cheap calls if only you are using SKYPE.
  8. Use SKYPE : it will cost you about 50 cents. I phone the UK all the time from Australia using SKYPE.
  9. Yes, considering you do not see to many layouts with snow/winter scenes, it did seem like a strange decision to manufacture a snow plough.
  10. I was going to ask about an ad I saw : new type of waterslide transfers that can be applied to a matt surface. However, given this latest information it now seems irrelevant. Are they not going to try to sell the business ?
  11. Well, they should have done the pre-grouping version with the red frames .......always a good seller.
  12. MIne is a later model but the coupling is the same. Tender coupler is easily removed. The front coupler does present problems as you have pointed out. I may just remove the front one and then leave it like that.
  13. The tension locks are fitted using the usual Hornby rivets which will have to be drilled out. I might want to fit a Kadee to the front of the loco as well ; I will be removing the tension lock from there.
  14. I have just purchased a Hornby Lord of the Isles loco in very good condition. Has anybody fitted Kadees to one of these : what did you use ? Some photos would be nice.
  15. Is there a thread on converting a GWR Dean Goods loco to the older round top firebox version ? Red frame colour scheme would be nice too ! I thought a few people had done that but I cannot find it. Does anybody know when the last firebox conversion was completed ?
  16. How are the molds made ? What sort of equipment is involved in that process ?
  17. So it is available but nothing on their website ? I suppose it is too early for anybody to have built one yet ?
  18. I am surprised that they never bought out a motorised version of it. Surely it would not have required too much modification ? I wonder if the tooling still exists somewhere ?
  19. Has anybody seen this book : GWR Goods Trains Working - Volume 1 by Tony Atkins ? The photos on the front cover look good but what is inside ? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GWR-Goods-Train-Working-From-Development-to-Guard-Duties-Volume-One-by-Tony/312029867053?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140107090050%26meid%3De883d4dbfcce48fdbe6092434bdb26d2%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D311936752175&_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850
  20. A 24 year old man died after a brown snake bite near Tamworth yesterday. He was bitten on the finger but died within the hour......very quick !
  21. I had another go with a Kadee #19 mounted UNDER the bogie : this seems to be the correct height and length. The photo shows it just held on with a small amount of Blu Tac. I will have to repair the hole in the bogie with some styrene then drill a small hole to take an M2 X 5mm screw from underneath.
  22. What is inside the book '' Great Western Wagon Appendix '' by Russell ?
  23. Who makes the best OO gauge white metal or plastic horses ?
  24. Yes, but I have not found any Kadee to mount under the bogie that gives the correct height. (I am using the Kadee height gauge.) I understand what people are saying that the Kadee as I have screwed it to the bogie will not swivel but the bogie itself swivels as it goes around the bends. So far it seems to work well but I will continue to test it and I am happy to try out any new suggestions.
  25. I understand how the gear boxes work and I have plenty of them : the problem is I tried many different whisker Kadees (underset, overset and centreset) fitted with gearboxes and none would give the correct height without chopping into the bogie. It was only when I removed the gear box that I found that the #148 was the perfect height. I also tried #17, 18, 19 and 20's and found the same problem of not being the correct height without modifications to the bogie. I did not want to use glue except as a last resort. I used the #146 with its gear box to convert all my wagons.
