  1. This is the test board for the door mechanisms. 8mm lead screws and slides so;d as kit of parts including bearings and bearing blocks from Ebay sold as 3d printer drives. The plastic parts will be replaced with etched versions once the design is sorted. The doors will come down through the slots in the boards and one will slide back before the other. I am also going to assemble all the structure for this section on this board and solder it all up. It will then be transferred to the proper board when built.
  2. York 1999 - Barry O - we were there with Herculaneum Dock
  3. NEC 2001 with some very familiar faces
  4. Dave I have the same photo which you can read the loco number on the plate which is 1074 of 1911. It was supplied to the 3' gauge Santa Marta Railway in Columbia. As Mike says all the steam locomotive drawings are at Statfold. From the information I have I think the General Arrangement drg no is 16958. Andy
  5. Progress this week - I have gone as far as I can designing the door mechanism. I have done a drawing of a temporary baseboard so I can assemble the lead screws and guides I have bought off eBay that arrived last week. A friend is making the board this week so initial assembly can start. This will be be done with bits of card and plastic before I commit to etches. Erecting shop Side Door Layout-Model.pdf The drawing shows the door layout and the photo shows the real doors. The plan it to also assemble all the structure on this board and then transfer onto the real board when made. All the parts for the structure have already been made. Including the main door beams and columns.
  6. For those interested in Irish Narrow Gauge this is how far I have got with the later Bord na Móna locos. The cab roof needed re drawing as it does not fit as it should. I have also redrawn the frame so I can fit wheel sets for a working one on test. The etch drawings are now redrawn but I am waiting to finish drawings for the main erecting shop doors and the brackets etc for the mechanism. I have bought some liner drives of Ebay and it looks like these might work. How it will look when finished and on test.
  7. Thank you for all the positive comments over the last week. I am glad i took the time to put the original post up. Hopefully it won't be too long before we get back out to exhibitions with my display. I will continue to add to this for those who are interested. At the moment I am designing the door mechanism and the next will be the welding manipulator - the photo below is of this with one of the BSC Bo - Bo's mounted in it.
  8. Good luck. Don’t worry about how long it will. I have been working on my current project for years already and there is still many years of work in front of me.
  9. As requested see below a couple more photos The Tyne and wear unit is 4083 that had collided with a bus on a level crossing. The Green locos are the MOD 0-4-0's The unpainted frame was the last of a stock batch. I think this was eventually delivered to BNFL but I can not be sure. If you are wondering what the round thing is - Its a Greenbatt Circular loom for making hessian sacks. There are actually all four MOD locos in shot - two are obvious with the frame for the third on the welding manipulator in the bottom right of the shot and if you Zoom into the bottom of the shop the forth is on it back. I also thought you may want see how much I am building - before I started designing etches for the structure and the frame I made a 2mm scale mock up - see photos below.
  10. Mike i have put up a photo and drawing of the multi gauge test track on my Hunslet project thread. Every gauge but 5’3”. Andy
  11. I also remembered I have a marked up drawing of all the gauges
  12. The test track in reality had every gauge up to 5’6” excluding 5’3”. I built a short section first before I started anything else to make sure I could get the soldering iron in to every rail. the model has th same number of rails but I nudge at least one to allow for model gauges. The point is the only one on the layout at the road end of the yard. As for what we can lift the only limitation is getting scale lifting brackets onto the frames.
  13. This is the mid 80’s and the light green loco is the same type as the one in my video. There were four for the MOD for use in Germany. The bloke working in the door way of the Tyne and Wear Metro is me.
  14. I have had a look in my profile but can not see anything.
  15. Watching. I was in the pit holding the axle boxes square.
  16. I am thinking about cameras. There was a large wooden buffer at the end of the pit and that would hide one very easily and would confirm the loco was in line with the wheel sets.
  17. .........................For several years I have been working on building a model of part of the Hunslet Engine works in Leeds. This is to include the interior of the Erecting shop were I did my apprenticeship as a locomotive fitter. That was a long time ago. One of my main goals was to produce working cranes and over the Christmas holidays I finished the second one which enabled me to try the double lift on a short section of the main structure that I built some time ago. I have videoed some of these first lifts and put them on our club Whatapp groups and it was suggested I should share them. Please see you tube link below - I have also included some stills. This is attempt number 3 at simulating wheeling - it did work but I needs a lot more practice and I need to see what I can do with the clearances. I have to say I am amazed it worked at all. The frame for one of the Snowdon Mountain Railway Diesel locomotives on a single beam lift. Nearly everything in the picture is scratch built apart from the brass shackles. I normally have this as part of my demonstration / display at exhibitions and hopefully I will be able to again in the second half of the year.
  18. Barry is correct. There is a Manchester Pilcher which was an Ambrio kit. I also have a Leeds Snow Broom but this never made it onto the layout..
  19. Hi The Horsfields are EFE die cast models that we motorised. Most with Tenshodo bogies but one had a Black Beatle. Middleton Bogies, Lance Corporals, Railcars 601and 602 are all Tramalan kits. The bogie ones have Tramalan under frame kits which we modified adding bearings, drive shafts and DS10 motors. The Ex Hull cars are ABS kits. The Felthams that ran on the layout were from Tower Models plastic kits. I did also motorise a Corgi one and still have some of these to do if I ever build another layout. There is also an ex Southampton Dome which is from a very old Varney kit. 600 and 301 and the HR2 are scratch built. I think that is them all. Andy
  20. As Barry says most of the layout is no more. The depot however has got a new home to go to once we are out of the current restrictions. I do have the buildings and the trams. At the moment there are no plans to build another tram layout as I am now building a part of the Hunslet works in O gauge and this is a massive project and will take many years. But as requested please see attached several photos of the layout taken at several shows over the years.
  21. I have found a few more photos I scanned from slides years ago. One of Lofty's famous bridges based on Canal Road in Leeds which is still there to this day. The hill up to Leeds Victoria - the trick on this was to transfer the trains from one operator to the other without stopping - No DDC then. All this does take me back but it also shows how we have moved on as a club with the layouts now being produced. When will we be having the first club visit to the loft for a running session?
