  1. I have 2 colour prints of 01002 working on the breakwater which my late brother took in (I think) either 1978 or 1979. The colour of the loco is inconclusive due to the sun angle but it does look black. My brother took me to the breakwater shed in July 1977 (he was stationed at RAF Valley at the time), everything was locked up but I was able to see the locos through a broken window and managed to get a picture of the side of the cab & number of 01001. It is definitely in black livery, though the funny thing is that looking at the slide through the loupe, the paint patch on the cab side where the new TOPS number was applied does appear to be a dark green shade to it, rather than black. I suspect that's probably just a trick of the light. Unfortunately I don't at present have any means of scanning the slide, if I can do so, I'll post it on here. Douglas
  2. I photographed 47583 in NSE livery at Ais Gill on the 1237 Carlisle - Leeds service on 23/4/88, perhaps that was it? On the same day, 50024 & 50050 worked a southbound charter over the S & C, Pathfinder Tours "Fellsman 2". 3 NSE liveried locos on the S & C in one day. Douglas
  3. Yes Keefer, could well be, I hadn't spotted the white tyres or the silvered buffers. Douglas
  4. Didn't locos off overhaul/repair at Glasgow Works have a trial run on one of the Queen St - Dundee services, suspect this is what we are looking at. Douglas
  5. Thanks Mike, had another go this afternoon and all OK. Can't imagine why I hadn't spotted it first time round, feel such a clot ! Douglas
  6. Can I ask what is probably a daft question. I'm just getting round to fitting Ultrascale EM wheelsets to my 2 locos and I'm not sure exactly how to get the bogie sideframes/keeper plate off. I've had an exploratory fiddle but I'm worried about using too much force and causing damage. There is probably something here on RM Web about it but I can't find it. Anyone care to share their experience ? Thanks in advance, Douglas
  7. Think I might have dropped a bit of a rick. I have 2 of the blue "D1005" on order, but looking at the model as reviewed in Hornby magazine, the battery box retaining clips are very noticeable. Am I right in thinking these were fitted "post Ealing" i.e '74 onwards ? If so, as my period is 1971, do I cancel my order and wait for an original condition body in BFYE or do I go ahead with the purchase and apply paint/weathering to hide them or resort to some minor surgery. Have to decide fairly quickly I think ! Douglas
  8. Dave, Have tried to PM you but it won't accept the message, so I'll post it here; Dave, Just a brief note to thank you for the replacements which arrived in the post today. I will try not to break these ! Very much looking forward to Dapols new OO announcements (though I suspect my wallet isn't. Best wishes Douglas
  9. Fabulous news, a (hopefully) decent 101 in 4mm, I've been impressed with all Bachmanns previous efforts with 1st generation DMU's so have every reason to assume this will be a good 'un. Although they haven't announced a BFYE model at this stage, I would hope this will follow in the future. I see the website has also announced a BFYE 3 car 108 also, so I'm one happy bunny. Douglas
  10. PM duly sent. Yet another fantastic response from Dave, customer service at its finest. Dapol should be proud to have someone who is so highly thought of by people who buy their products. Douglas
  11. I have one of the Kernow weathered blue models and I'm really delighted with it. Roll on the "thousand". Unfortunately when taking off one of the bogie frames to examine it for conversion to EM, I accidentally snapped the bottom plate off it and although I have tried to repair it, it won't stay in place. D'oh ! I have emailed Dapol to see if there is any chance of obtaining a replacment. Douglas
  12. Quite correct, it was a wooden (plywood I think) mock up which was placed over 2 industrial diesels. It was filmed on the Middleton Railway in Leeds. I saw it from a distance when passing on the motorway, which necessitated a brief diversion to investigate. Wish I'd taken a picture. Another US film which springs to mind is the magnificent "In the Heat of the Night" with SIdney Poitier and Rod Steiger which has some nice footage of Gulf, Mobile & Ohio stock. Douglas
  13. The Great St Trinians Train Robbery filmed on the Longmoor Military Railway.
