  1. I don't know where this alternative tank design comes from as I have never seen a 47 sporting those, they are just wrong plain and simple.
  2. I was once told the reason the 47/7 no 2 end was usually leading was because it was the only cab to retain the cooker to brew up!
  3. Ha Ha Ha, I had forgotten about that John Shuttelworth classic!
  4. Err I don't think it representing anything other than a poor attempt at a stones boiler. Although the stones and clayton boilers were different when in use, once plated over they look pretty similar as this picture of 47237 (D1914) with a plated over clayton boiler shows. It certainly doesn't look any different to the photo of the plated over stones. http://www.class47.co.uk/c47_zoom_v3.php?img=0503051360211 Dave
  5. Right then the second photo is 47828 so the previous identity's are 47266 and 47629 and she stated life as D1966 which means it is a stones vapor boiler. Spanner boilers are D1500-D1615, D1682-D1781 Stone Vapor D1616-D1635, D1837-D1874, D1948-D1976, D1101-D1111 Clayton boiler D1636-D1681, D1901-D1947, D1977-D1999, D1100 No boiler D1782-D1836, D1875-D1900. (still had a blanked off boiler port similar to a Stones) Regards Dave
  6. 2 cotswold 47s at Barrow Hill, the round boiler is a plated over spanner boiler (47813 i think) and the oblong is the Stones or Clayton type as is on the Bachmann 47745 (could be 47828 in the photo). Dave
  7. Further discount 721,733,734,741,759,762,763,769 and 774 as these have spanner boiler ports, 779 and 785 i don't think ever had cut away cabs and 727, 761, 770, 771 and 772 had the high eth position.
  8. The bodies are a pain to remove but not as bad as the Heljan's I used to have, one of the reasons why I sold them all. Of the Bachmann bodies I have removed I always break off the 4 black clips that are part of the chassis (just fold them out and they snap off)as they are not needed as the screws are perfectly fine at keeping the body secured, this makes any further body removal a breeze. Another tip at replacing the silver screws is to use a pair of small pliers which have a curved end and you can almost place the screws in. Cheers Dave
  9. It might well end up as 707 yet but as you say the boiler port is wrong both for 705 and 707. I could sand down the boiler port and replace with a etched product or plasticard as I have with one of my cheap 47035's but at ??89 I am reluctant to attack the bodyshell. There is also an issue with the Scotrail branding on 1 side but I think I can live with that, I think 707 has slightly lower branding anyway. If anyone is interested I will post a picture on here when my shove is finished. I am going to the Donny model railway exhibition on Saturday and then take my damaged 461 back to Rails. If i opt for a refund I may look at the 47573 model at Modelzone on my way back, if only I had more willpower!
  10. Just received my 3 Bachmann 47461's today, 1 as an investment, 1 to keep as 47461 and 1 to change into 47705. However please take a good look if you have ordered any of these as 2 of mine arrived damaged. The parcel as delivered today was undamaged but the inner plastic packaging of 2 models was badly cracked and broken with the resulting damage of broken/loose handrails. I phoned Rails and they have told me to return the damaged ones but I think I will still keep the less damaged one to turn into 47705 and ask for a refund on the other. Anyway please be aware of a possible damage issue.
  11. On seconds thoughts 079 is flush at no.2 end or should be
  12. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but 470 is flush ended at no.2 end, 079 and 461 are no.1 end.....but 47835 should be the correct body.
