  1. OMG it's made out of plastic when the real is made out of metal
  2. That is until you realise that the thread has failed on the cab inserts and the front droops down and the additional brake parts catch the buffer beam on curves. The Bachmann class 47 is a nice loco but horribly designed regarding the body fitment. Lima got it spot on with the buffers holding the chassis and body together.

    Heljan Class 27

It doesn't look too bad, not perfect I agree but I'm so glad it is weathered as I have it on preorder from Rails and £110 inc postage is a really decent price.

I am hoping for a Scottish 47/4 in large logo with highland stags or west highland terriers from around 1985/6. I don't know why Bachmann are so reluctant to release a Scottish 47/4 when they release Scottish 37/4s seemingly every year.
  5. Forgot to say that the railway journey from Wroclaw to Kudowa Zdroj is a fantastic journey climbing into the mountains on the czech border. Not much there when you get there though! It was deep with snow when I visited in January last year.

  7. looks like the model I sold on ebay a couple of years ago
  8. 47703 i believe and maybe a Harry Needle loco.
  9. We should all be trying to cut down on plastic waste and magazines being bagged really shouldn't be happening anymore, same as bananas in the supermarket in plastic bags WTF
  10. Hi, I have received my 47712 this morning, on removing the loco and placing on a flat surface it didn't sit correctly and had a distinct wobble with three wheels on each bogie about 1mm off the ground. I have loosened the bogie screws but it still sits on the wobble, this is the first Bachmann 47 I have owned that does this. Very bizarre. I'm not chuffed at all so will be in contact with seller about returning it.
  11. As far as am aware 47712 did not receive a westie and retained the Haymarket castle well into 1990 and possibly NSE days. It did get the aerial sometime in 1988 though.
  12. Sorry, when I said heavier numbers I meant thicker printing, they are still small numbers and the same livery as the prototype.
  13. This had me confused but the new weathered version has heavier numbers and the black surrounding the marker lights is also heavier which is consistent with other 47 releases. The lower mushroom colour looks lighter despite the weathering. It can't be too many days until these are released so not long to wait hopefully.
  14. On page 158 of the February issue of Railway Modeller there is a photo of 47832 Tamar in it's attractive executive livery, It looks like it is the production model but I was surprised to see that it appears to be lightly weathered. I think it looks really nice and maybe I will buy 2 and convert one to 47527 Kettering with a chassis swap with my 47436. (which may become 47818). The roof weathering would help to disguise the boiler port conversion so I hope it is the production model.
  15. An alternative to 47599 is 47594, I have 3 47359 models that I have renumbered, 47594, 47063 in construction and 47279 rfd. 47594 has had an etched boiler port fitted but possibly needs a little more weathering on the roof.
  16. The boiler tanks do just clip in but the issue is that the cab/tail light switches will then not line up. The switches need unscrewing, turning 180 degrees ( if I remember rightly) and placing on the alternative and slightly higher side. Then the wires are not long enough so they need rerouting through the chassis which is a real pain.
  17. 47359 has an incorrect roof and doesn't have boiler tanks so not that simple
  18. If I remember rightly the first batch of 47s had a lot of class 57 parts including tanks and bogies and they wobbled whilst running. When 47474, 535 and 612 were released the errors had been corrected.
  19. Just to complicate matters further the 47710 model has incorrect twin tanks, well slightly incorrect to be fair, these are the later design for 47821 onwards and 47721 onwards (discounting the original 47650-665 batch that became res 47/7s later in life). Heljan got the 47/7 tanks on their scotrail 47 spot on.
  20. I have just dug out my old "moves" book from 1988 and 47583 appears to have been on at least the following trains. 18-04-88 1352 Carlisle-Glasgow central 19-04-88 1013 Glasgow-Carlisle, 1430 Carlisle-Stranraer and 2240 Stranraer-Carlisle. 20-04-88 0424 Carlisle-Glasgow, 0823 Glasgow-Stranraer, 1425 Stranraer-Glasgow and 2153 Glasgow-Stranraer 21-04-88 0700 Stranraer-Glasgow 23-04-88 1237 Carlisle-Leeds and 1625 return.
  21. I had 47583 to Stranraer during April 1988, it stayed around for a few days taking in Glasgow, Carlisle and Leeds. Pictured at Stranraer with the 1826 arrival from Euston.
  22. This is my 47518 with the different sized numbers and large gap between the 47 and 518, very pleased with the transfers and I have also replaced the Bachmann spanner boiler with the Shawplan etch. Also pictured is my 47480 Robin Hood with Railtec dry transfers which are a little slimmer but a good match for 47480's slim numbers. I have since renumbered it to 97480 with a little weathering.
  23. Very excited by this news, many large logo 47s had slightly different number sizes randomly applied, will you do the curvy 7 numbers as applied by Glasgow Works during 1988/9?
  24. Beneath the various types of 47 tanks Bachmann have craftily designed two pairs of switch holders, one pair raised for the boiler tanks and the other pair slightly lowered for the battery boxes, they are then wired up accordingly. If you look at the underneath of a boiler and battery tank 47 and compare you will notice the switches don't line up. You can swap tanks if you are prepared to unclip the wires from the pcb and change things around a bit, very fiddly but doable. The 47/7 tanks are a direct replacement for the boiler ones without rewiring I believe.
