  1. Maybe we should digress into the field of properly braked bogie goods wagons? Then these 8 coupled beasts would have something suitable to gallop along with
  2. Shouldn't there be a "sick joke" button for that?
  3. Last time I looked at a heavy duty car spade terminal it was neither crimped nor soldered, it was spot welded. I thought crimping was for repair jobs, defintely not soldered though.
  4. The free cam this week is Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, Steam Locos plus a freight mainline running past: https://www.youtube.com/virtualrailfan
  5. Nos 2 & 4 were Terriers (acquired from the SR ex LBSC 43 "Gypsyhill", in 1925 & ex LBSC 53 "Ashtead" in 1937) Both were still in use in 1940 when the line closed and they were taken over by the GWR who used them until 1950/1948 respectively. (WCPR.org website)
  6. The GWR had a loco that should be capable of 90mph, cruise at 70 mph and pull lots of freight - the 47XX Whether it ever reached 90mph is another matter although the Grange, which only had 5.2% less tractive effort but was a 4-6-0 could. Surely a V2 with an extra set of coupled wheels is a P2? Why not a 2-8-2 version of Peppercorn's superb A2? Even more of a P2!
  7. The new releases contain LBSC, SECR, KESR, SR, BR early, BR late liveries. (and various mods) Is the KESR any more high profile than the WCPR? Then there is still the GWR livery for the WCPR versions.
  8. They were doing that price when I was buying one, unfortunately they didn't have any to sell. They also do free postage which saves another £4
  9. You can of course get DCC mimic panels which means only a DCC bus from the panel to the turnout decoders! DCC Concepts, LDT, Megapoints etc.
  10. Quite a few retailers in the UK, many of the big ones & DCC specialists. I got mine from Hattons for £299, currently one of the lowest prices. N.B. There is a z21 (lower case z) "start" which is white and is a stripped back unit for starter systems & a Z21 (upper case Z) "full system" which is black and the one to go for (if that's your choice). The white one has less interfaces than the black one and needs an add on wi-fi package for use with tablets/smartphones/wifi Multimaus etc. IMHO not worth having.
  11. An interesting (or not?) aside from the Hornby website shows that the WCPR liveried version R3528, which is old tooling (and shows it), is still available at only £4 less than the new tool versions: https://www.Hornby.com/uk-en/shop/locomotives/locomotives-by-class/a1x-terrier/wc-plr-0-6-0t-4-stroudley-terrier-class.html One might ask why?
  12. When you need to cut the sheet for the billboard which side should it be?
  13. The news report I saw showed EMUs and just said the planned 6 car trains cannot be run until 2021.
  14. But no 6 carriage trains to Leeds where the platforms aren't long enough (Yet!)
  15. Another option if you buy a Z21 is the Wireless MultiMaus which gives you a hand controller with a rotary knob giving total speed control in both directions, without having to switch forward or reverse. I find it is more controllable than the touch screen slider of the Roco app. (I have that on a Galaxy Tablet) My layout is also controlled by a computer program (TrainController Gold) but a hand control is IMHO better for shunting etc.
  16. Are you talking about a prototypical loco traverser (e.g. Birmingham Moor Street/Many loco works) or are we talking about storage of complete train sets? If it is just loco length here's what I did: (It is finished and working now so I should update that topic!)
  17. There is the difference. I was at the one in Birmingham a couple of hours before it was to shut and the cable was still not at "firesale" prices.
  18. You were lucky The wire at the closing down Maplins I used wasn't particularly cheap and when I tried to make an offer for some complete drums of the stuff, It was shunned as they wouldn't go below the closing down 30% off per metre. It wasn't worth it as a drum bought elsewhere would have been much cheaper.
  19. Something different at SoNo tower: This was travelling towards us with the jib swinging from side to side a bit! This is a busy passenger railway with frequent commuter trains as well as Acelas Can't imagine doing that in the UK without a match truck.
  20. I've got some pictures in another thread with showing how I fitted a decoder in the tender, that was with the Churchward tender and I put pickups on all tender wheels as well. That's later in the topic. Snall decoders that should fit in the loco boiler (after grinding a small space in the weight) are Zimo MX618, Lenz Silver Mini+, TCS M1, Hornby R8249. Personally I wouldn't use that last two. BTW your tender chassis AFAIK is not a GWR tender from a Collett Goods (unless Bachmann changed it late on) I have had another look at mine and it is the right one The other topic:
  21. That's an interesting arrangement. The tender chassis doesn't look right as the loco hook normally goes under the front of it. That's quite a big decoder, the latest Lenz ones are much, much smaller and you can get a Silver mini in the loco with a small amount of work. I'll post the picture of mine when I have located it. I have also fitted a decoder in the tender of the latest Churchward tender variant as the tender was originally designed for it EDIT Found it: Click on my reply below
  22. If you used the term "Bipolar DC" where I worked you would have been met with "What?"
  23. That's probably it, but my eyes are glazing over now
