I had just departed St Nazaire, bound for Rotterdam.WE couldn't see any TV because we didn't have a SECAM-compatible TV, so was limited to radio - World Service or Radio 4. Once we got off the Channel Islands the following morning we were able to see films of the disaster. Will never forget.
I was in (upstate) New York having arrived, 15 hours before the first tower was hit, on the flight into Newark. We flew past the Twin Towers as I pointed out the Statue of Liberty to the just retired couple at the side of me. I never knew what happened to them.
I also had just lost my mum, the week before, and we lost a colleague on the Philadelphia flight. I still have my hotel bill with my arrival, departure dates and my (then) company’s address of “Tower One World Trade…” RIP, one and all.
