  1. I suspect that most running line signals would be lit from sunset until at least close of traffic and then extinguished until the line reopened again the following morning (unless its a Sunday!) until sunrise, I think the SA lists the exceptions rather than the norm, semaphore signals controlling exit to the main lines were probably also lit at the same times. I'm afraid my SAs are mostly LNWR/LMS/BR LMR. Give one a go - remember you can get LED paint, yellow for example will take the brightness out of of yellow/white/sunny white LED.
  2. Hi CK, I'm afraid I'm a classic case of not liking the solution but no real alternative, the circuit suggested might make LEDs more usable ? Give them a trial, you might like them. Maybe a small LED painted with some LED paint might be dull enough ? - needs some experimenting.
  3. Not in my humble one - resistors on LEDs are not a sliding scale like a lamp, they dim a bit and then go out - but each to their own of course.
  4. Hi C.K, Personally I don't like LEDs in semaphores, oil lit lamps were incredibly dull and difficult to see and I think LEDs are too powerful for this period - but I know others use them (which is their choice and I respect that)
  5. I had a good couple of tugs on Friday myself. Heres 60096 taking the up slow at Acton Bridge on the Ratcliffe, it was struggling approaching the signal due to slippy rail conditions but had just about got control of the train again by this point And 60010 with a Ratcliffe - LBT overtakes some 325s awaiting permission to go to Warrington RMT, notice the Pendo heading South, it cleared seconds before the 60 got to the sweet spot.
  6. Nice one John. I've seen plenty of prototypes with the arms "cocked" - as long as there are no block / lever controls on them no-one seemed to mind too much
  7. As Pete said, just my view and nice signals but I think you'd be better using lamps (rather than LEDs) for illumination.
  8. First one down the North Wales coast 70002 on a ballast from Penmaenmawr - ta to Nick for the tip off. Dundas Sidings (Sandycroft) site - 27 April 2010 6L56, Penmaenmawr - Chesterton Junction 70 replaced by a 66/5 at Crewe.
  9. Passenger debut. Acton Bridge 17 April 2010 70003 and 66154 on 1Z66, 04:54, Swindon - Leeds - fist passenger working for a 70 (Pathfinder, The Yorkshire Pullman) The sun was in almost the worst possible position but I wanted to get it at Acton Bridge, a Cheshire Railway moment
  10. I was a student in Sheffield during the late 1970s and was forced to travel over the Woodhead many times due to weekend diversions, well someone had to do it. I photographed at Guide Bridge and Reddish as well as hanging out of the train windows photographing signals and boxes during the diversions - one day I will get a round tuit.
  11. That would have been a sight, 40145 topping 59201 - and I bet Mr Wood would have been top of the volunteer drivers list
  12. It's on the way ... 59205 at Crewe being readied. Just had a text which implies either 59201 or 60085 has failed and the loaded is double headed Further text (Ta AV) - the 59 has slipped to a stand and is being assisted by the 60 A bit of rain on the bank and the 59 can't cope
  13. 60085 made a welcome return to the LBT/FFPS circuit on Easter Monday - 05 April 2010 Didn't quite make it to the station for the train passing. 60085, MINI Pride of Oxford, on 6F74, 12:11, Liverpool Bulk Terminal - Fiddlers Ferry Power Station loaded HTAs, via Olive Mount Back to Slutchers lane bridge - and in the meantime some "kind" soul had made off with my zoom lens, which I had stupidly left on the bridge in the heat of the chase - ho hum (pretty likely to be a fellow enthusiast too) The classic shot .. 60085, MINI Pride of Oxford, on 6F09, 17:10, Fiddlers Ferry Power Station - Liverpool Bulk Terminal empty HTAs, via Olive Mount And off to Walton to run round again, and then take the "high level" (via Earlestown) to Liverpool
  14. One from Easter Monday - 05 April 2010 70004 on 6F02, 12:07, Ellesmere Port Manisty Wharf - Fiddlers Ferry Power Station loaded HXAs
  15. Ill blame him anyway - before anyone else blames me
  16. Larry has replied for the coast but several classes made it to Chester - depends if you want to streeeeetch facts a bit PS - Go DCC
  17. It was on a London - Holyhead, normally diesel on at Crewe and electric off ... on this day the 90 was left still attached and headed off down the coast, when it got to "The Junction" a decision was made to remove it as it was not certain it would make Belmont tunnel with the pants still attached when it got to Bangor ! The loco was left there until recovered a few days later (which is what Larrys photo shows)
  18. Siouxsie and the Banshees Spellbound, Hong Kong Garden and other staircase mysteries !
