Can anybody advise whether conversion to EM/P4 looks like it’s a possibility? Critically the clearances/width of slide bars? A photo of the underside of the chassis would be appreciated

Going to be making the short trip up from Somerset again. Looking forward to it.

No, they'll be in the corridor of uncertainty.
Sorry. Too much cricket today.
And if you know the Town Hall, you know where that is.

Very interesting Mikkel. I must try my Green Stuff roller at some point.
I wonder if the foam could be sealed with Shellac or even PVA once you've formed the pattern to give a harder skin which would be more robust for painting etc. I've seen this done for card and Palight.
like you I'm not sure about the circular sett pattern though.

Morning
Is there a plan for Fawley Hill on Sunday? Are we expected to arrive at a certain time etc and meet up or is it a free for all?

Catching up on household chores after a very enjoyable but tiring weekend at Expo EM Spring. I had a great time and certainly made some new friends.
Thanks to everyone who came along. Judging by the comments I had, people seemed to enjoy themselves. One or two gave feedback which we're always happy to receive if it helps makes things a little better next time.
The PECO plain track turned up on Saturday lunchtime and had all been sold by Sunday afternoon. It was a shame that the turnouts didn't quite make it but the tools look fantastic and it won't be too long now. They'll certainly be ready for Expo Autumn in September, he says confidently but without any sort of authority!
Events at Stamford were in most peoples' minds and there was a real sense of shock and sympathy in the hall. It has been a tragic event but isn't it great how the world wide modelling and non-modelling community has responded?

Still, gutted that I can't attend with the other Expo 'groupies'!
Are they going to have to cancel the bring and buy this weekend then? There'll be nothing there to sell!
We'll miss you!
Heading over tomorrow lunchtime to help with the set up etc.

Doh, I didn't go that far down the aisle!
Neither did quite a lot of people unfortunately. We were a little quiet down there.
It's only a niggle though. It was a great show this year and huge improvement on previous years from a finescale point of view

Between dad and I we have (well, will have) five LMS vans. That's probably sufficient. If we're short of anything it's probably GW vans (but I can live with this), though a BR unfitted would be nice and I have the makings of one of those and, and...

Not sure it's possible to be short of GWR vans or to even live with that knowledge...

Number 1 - you won't be for long!!
You're not wrong! I think the fact that I've already got a couple of 7mm wagons and I spent far too long looking at the Carl Arendt web site for inglenook layouts spells doom!!

Usually depends on how close and how loud the nearest DCC diesel layout is...

Looking forward to bringing Clevedon WCPR all the way up from Somerset. Haven't been to the Preston show before.
Hopefully I can keep the operating crew from breaking out the medley of Wurzel songs, but I doubt it...

Looks fantastic John!

Noticed, so presumed it was you, thanks . Knowing my luck someone will now find a photo showing other side.
Preston, I might be able to get to that , hopefully not cancelled by bad weather this time!
Hi. I've been working on the GER brake van. Details on my blog here.

I am saddened to see all of the custom blocks on my blog have disappeared, they gave me a structure to work to. But perhaps they will reappear before the upgrade is finished.

That'd be appreciated Andy. I think it's applicable to every blog.
Keep smiling. At least we're fortunate to now have time to do some modelling! I suspect you might not have that luxury for a while...

Popped in today for a quick visit en route to a family gathering in Wakefield and I’m glad I did. Good layouts, good traders and the pie and peas was very nice too.

I think of it as a description of people who may look good but have no substance and just melt away when things get too difficult. Admittedly it applies to the younger generation (mainly millennials) who want and expect it all without having earned or worked for it.
In my profession (property and construction Project Management) it's a very applicable simile to quite a few people I meet...

Model railways direct have Hornby Pecketts at £66 until Monday 14th
-
In my youth I worked at the model railway in Weston-super-Mare in the mid-late 1980's. This was in sea-front premises leased from the council. The owner (Brian Oliver) used to open at Easter, then close until Whit week after which he'd stay open until the end of the tourist season at the end of September.
He used to have to take work over the winter months, but he made a living out of it. I believe he was involved with a similar set up in Torbay somewhere back in the 1960's.
Although a tourist attraction, the theme was the history of railways, so you had Rocket and Locomotion on the top level, running down to modern image on the lower levels. I really wish I'd taken photos back then.
I remember the layout was based on a series of loops on different levels, each with multiple trains on each, something like 40-50ft long by about 15ft. In some cases up to a dozen running on loops, shuttles back and forth. Control was traditional with reed switches under the track and magnets on the rear coaches breaking loops into sections and triggering switching to adjacent sidings via old Post Office relays.
Brian sold locos from display stands but it wasn't really a shop as such.
It really was an ideal job really!
