Yes yet another great British tradition falling victim to the 'elf and safety brigade. I'm sure we will be last band on as usual at Greenfield, cmon Boarshurst!

  4. For those who contributed to the car buying saga, thank you all for your useful (ish) contributions, but I am now a fully paid up member of the Fellowship of the Green Oval!

I'm still trying to work out how you get a car to fit in a tuba. Presumably it goes in from the wide end, not the mouthpiece end...

I've been very impressed by the layout swallowing capacity of a Focus estate.

  8. Yep, you have definately got the measure of the place, call it Bacup
  9. In my defence I was only throwing names of local areas in the Valley and its environs, IIRC places like Newchurch, Cowpe, Weir, which came off the top of the head. think I even mentioned as far as Deerplay (note no sheep or interbreeding references which is par for the course in that part of the world) Recourse to the OS map shows Stubbylee, Rockcliffe (all close to the station area in bacup) Huttock Top, Greave (in Rochdale thats an estate as rough as sin, so id stay away from that one),Lane Head, Broad Clough, butt (wait for it) the one I really do like is Pasture Bottom, immediately due east of Greave. Of course, a bit nearer Bury and east of Ramsbottom, there is always Nob End. Its just begging for a railway.
  10. As for the reinstatement of the Micklehurst loop just think of all the compensation to be paid to local home owners - the house that have been built along and around the line in Greenfield / Uppermill since the line closed, I suspect there may be a few objections, but a rumour maybe worth starting tonight in the (Boarshurst) band club to see how local tongues wag Speaking of which I think id object myself, I'd be constantly looking out of my music pad to watch out of the club windows whatever is going over the (new) viaduct. I can just hear the diatribe from our MD now - "thats in 4/4 time." "No it was definately a 66"
  11. Quite right Larry, and obliterate most of Glodwick and its environs when it goes through as well please! I suspect there would be more chance of the local light rail enterprise doing that though - especially the Mumps - Greenfield section and whos not to say on to Delph to get some of the traffic off Lees Road in a morning/evening rush hours. The Electric Donkey? now there is a thought!!
  12. Before I attempt to dig out my archive of the Rossendale Valley line, heres one for the Orange owners club, of which Im a proud member - It a "cheap" hah!! Gringo hardtail, perfect for the tracks round here! Currently propped up alomgside New Heys fiddleyard in the garage.
  13. Hah I must tell my youngest that - its his (28th) Birthday today and hes been dropping hints about an Orange Five Black Gold. Being the kind generous father I am (and short of the 3 grand for it) I sent him the link to the Orange website! And speaking of black, the weathering looks right to me. Ive been going through my photo library - I once had thoughts of building Waterfoot goods - looking for photos I can scan for you, as soon as I find them (it was a good 10 years ago when I had these thoughts!) I will stick them up.
  14. The blackened one is right Jason, a lot of the building around Bacup got sandblasted over the years which has taken off the patina of soot which was on them up to the early 70s if not beyond. I tend to use a matt blue / black mix, cut with a little brown to get the soot on!

  17. The reverse can also apply - when the patronising g*ts in the clubrom suddenly start ignoring you. Now that is a measure of achievement

  22. Needs a 6th operator for Ally Pally following a last minute drop out

  23. heres a double whammy then, how to get lynched at a show and on this thread, go up to layout owner and say " i do love listening to an expert, x the unknown element and spurt, a drip under pressure"
  24. Oh dear, I feel the wallet being brought out for the 16", will just need Vulcan to get on with his Industrial layout then!
