  1. I have to admit I fancy the red thing at the left-hand side!
  2. Today is Day1 of Superfast Broadband - the normal stream went off yesterday at 1558, (they said allow up to midnight) and my computer guru/mate came round this afternoon at 1515 to refit it - the box said it was simple as pie - my immediate reaction, having seen the fun and games that were involved last time was "Liar, Liar, Burning knickers!" or words to that effect - I was amazed that it really was true !!! Persuading my computer, SWMBOs computer, the printer, and the skybox catch-up download to all talk to each other as they should, and then drinking a cup of tea, he was back home after I dropped him off, at 1615 - I am using Victor Meldrews catch phrase. The difference is astounding!
  3. A guy starts his new job at the zoo and is given three tasks. First is to clear the exotic fish pool of weeds. As he does so, a huge fish jumps out and bites him. To show who is boss, he beats it to death with a spade. Realizing his employer won't be best pleased he disposes of the fish by feeding it to the lions, as lions will eat anything. Moving on to the second job of clearing out the Chimp house, he is attacked by the chimps that pelt him with coconuts. He swipes at two chimps with a spade killing them both. What can he do? Feed them to the lions, he says to himself, because lions eat anything... He hurls the corpses into the lion enclosure. He moves on to the last job which is to collect honey from the South American Bees. As soon as he starts, he is attacked by the bees. He grabs the spade and smashes the bees to a pulp. By now he knows what to do and shovels them into the lions cage because lions eat anything. Later that day a new lion arrives at the zoo.. He wanders up to another lion and says "What's the food like here?" The lion says: "Absolutely brilliant, today we had Fish and Chimps with Mushy Bees.
  4. Apologies for venturing into a slightly Political area but it made me smile Labour Party Now that Tom Watson is the Deputy Leader and Jeremy Corbyn is the Leader, it’s become official. The Labour Party is now run by Tom & Jerry.
  5. Brings back more hazy memories of the "King Street Run" in Cambridge - several of the pubs that were on the list are regrettably no more - probably a good thing!
  6. Suffering with an invasion of tiny "noseeum" flies ( the ones like moving dots about 0.5mm across) - they provide fun when the little bu99ers fly in front of the computer screen, and I clap my hands!
  7. Culloden with pipes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrIUwo_GgmE
  8. As an "adopted" Scot can I just say that the most haunting thing is to stand on Culloden Moor with the wind blowing, and a master piper playing a lament - it is a strange place anyway, and always feels cold - but it will send a shiver down your spine.
  9. Found this on the RRL forum - it was too good not to repost
  10. But in theory it guarantees that you have a matched pair!
  11. You need to enlarge that rather a lot - A parsec is equal to about 3.26 light-years (31 trillion kilometres or 19 trillion miles) in length. [from wiki]
  12. Oh, dear - It was all going so well too! Perhaps I shouldn't have posted this - could we please get back to the original subject, and ask you two to take your disagreement off the forum and into PMs, were it will look a little less like trolling, and an attempt to get the thread locked!
  13. People - can I , as the second poster in this thread just say that I posted my comment, and reported it to Andy, as I was afraid that, as with so many other earlier subjects, this one was a prime candidate to "kick off", and I suggested that the Mods should keep a close eye on it. As you know, he replied and gave his opinion that the discussion should be allowed to continue. I have to say that I am delighted to see that it has been - in the main - discussed rationally and calmly, in a manner that may well improve everyone's knowledge about what has been a largely taboo subject. Thank you all for proving my fears unfounded. Best Jack
  14. Like Debs - my initial mis-reading prompted the thought of "Do what to your rear?"
  15. Sorry - this came as an email and will take too long to load each photo individually - please click on the links for some lovely pictures It's truly a beautiful world if we take care of it. BEFORE-AND-AFTER PHOTOS OF AUTUMN'S BEAUTIFUL CHANGES Without stopping to take a look around, we can sometimes miss the transition of our surroundings from summer to autumn. But just in case you’ve been watching the trees change colors, here’s a list of photos that compare various locations before and after they change into their autumn colors. Besides the nip in the air, the scarves, and the delicious autumn fruits and vegetables, the changing leaves are probably the greatest sign of autumn that there is. Chlorophyll, which is the green pigment in leaves that produces energy for trees, gradually breaks down in the fall, revealing the many other colours that also exist in leaves. That’s where we get the rich browns, oranges, yellows and reds that we associate with the season. 16. Frozen Carburetor People often complain about the police, but you rarely hear about the positive things they do, such as this incident involving a biker and a frozen carburetor. Last January on a bitterly cold winter's day, a North Dakota State Trooper on patrol came upon a motorcyclist who was stalled by the roadside. The biker was swathed in heavy protective clothing and wearing a full-face helmet to protect the face from the cold weather. “What’s the matter? asked the Trooper "Carburetor's frozen," was the terse reply. "Pee on it. That'll thaw it out." "I can't," said the biker. "OK, watch me closely and I'll show you." The Trooper unzipped and promptly warmed the carburetor as promised. Moments later the bike started and the rider drove off, waving. A few days later, the local State Troopers’ office received a note of thanks from the father of the motorcyclist. It began: "On behalf of my daughter Jill..."
  17. Without wishing to denigrate you, your feelings or your community in any way, I, as an elderly person, think back to when I joined the Royal Air Force, and one of the very first things that was drummed into us, was that there were 3 taboo subjects for barrack room discussion, namely politics, religion, and s-e-x in any of its multitude of forms. These have, between them, been amongst the biggest causes of dissent, disagreement, strife and trouble in the world - as indeed they are at the moment leading to the current European immigration problems. I applaud your bravery in "outing" yourself, but can I respectfully suggest that your "preferences" are your own, and no business of anyone elses, and this really is not a topic that should be being discussed on a Model Railway forum - there are far more suitable places where such discussions can take place. I wish you all the best Jack
  18. Rob - the loss of a loved one is always a time of turmoil in ones life, to be endured , and eventually accepted - but it is also a perfectly normal part of life, and I can promise you that the hurt does fade - though it will never vanish completely .Be happy that you know she was loved, and remember the good times..
  19. Actually I think that flows much more smoothly and improves the whole look of it
  20. An alternative office building - which can be "deconstructed", and used in several of your industry locations is this Work well with A/C units, from Dave at Unit Models , either on top or fitted into a window, or a wall, and give a "different" look Re lumber - I don't know if you are on TrainOrders.com - but if you are, this guy is apparently selling some really nice ones - no idea what he is charging though http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,3844018

  22. Mine did the same yesterday - today it works - the inter-webby-netty-cursey-thingy strikes again!
  23. If Gemma has sinus problems she has my sincere sympathy - I hope Mayo can help - but just don't pour it ( the Heinz variety ) out of the jar and straight up her nose - that will really bung it up! BIN day tomorrow (recycle this week - had garden waste yesterday - household waste next Friday!)
