  1. Use this link, works for me https://colab.research.google.com/drive/1gYiwvvmAhjg1nDNjN8kv6L9eOsbP-9w-?usp=sharing
  2. A certain retailer near to me is flat refusing to stock them. Not sure why. I bet Benhams don't miss this trick, although "Arkwright" might charge extra for installing the sounds - he has a bit of the Auntie Wainwright's about him too 😉
  3. Did you see Jos' face after the race? completely blanked Perez
  4. I can confirm the 8 pin decoder has the separate purple wire. You can see it in my pic
  5. Connectors are on the same side of the pcb on 8 pin versions.... Just finished stuffing it all into a Diamond Jubilee Britannia
  6. Had another batch of 3D prints yesterday, here's the latest version of the base for the Chinese pan fitted to the frames from the 2020s pan I've put a lot more work into the front pan lift air motor, there's more detail than Hornby got into theirs. The rear legs of the frame are now in a straight line right up to the insulator too.
  7. seeing as my test loco will be a Brit, I’m hoping the drivability is as good as the whistle 😉
  8. Ok first test of the sound decoder fitted to a lenz decoder tester. first impression is very noisy motor control out of the box. I see from the manual that there is auto tune etc which may help. Time will tell. The PWM frequency is claimed to be 20Khz, the same as a Zimo default, although zimos can be switched to 40Khz if needed. Default sound scheme is disappointing. Very toy train like, no automatic switch to coasting with small speed step reduction etc. It just chuffs around whatever the controller is doing. Hopefully the real sound profiles have had more effort to produce a more realistic steam loco driving experience. If not then the sounds have not moved on from TTS and we are still very much in the budget end of Digital sound.
  9. Not had chance to test my 8 pin sound decoder yet, but initial impressions of build quality are good (apart from the odd white pcb). The 8 pin plug seems solid and well soldered, gold on the pins is good. Wires are quality, very flexible A Diamond Jubilee Britannia has been selected to fit it to, maybe get chance this weekend, maybe not. Lots of family stuff to sort out ……
  10. Of course 46242 was eventually rebuilt although more damaged than 46202. 71000 was ostensibly built as a replacement, allowing Riddles to fulfil his desire to build the ultimate pacific.
  11. to be fair to Keith he did thank me for the link, so he does now know of the manuals 😉
  12. 😥

I’m very sorry for your loss Ian. Losing a parent is something that sticks with you.

It's not good news, but he's hanging on for now .....

  14. First concern after a quick scan - no function mapping on the non-sound decoders …….
  15. Wow, I was not aware I was not allowed an opinion.
  16. QR Code on the box takes you to an area on the Hornby website where amongst other things is this:HM7000 Series Decoders Reference Manual - 140323.pdf
  17. Thanks Andy for reminding me how much water has gone under the bridge. It has been very enjoyable (mostly) though 😉🚂🚂🚂🚂
  18. Too short, too narrow, Monaco in the countryside basically. Now if they redeveloped it and re-opened a lot of the original track that was lost when it was butchered in 1996 it would be much more of a spectacle.
  19. Plus a few that didn't make it off the cutting room floor or with a spitfire 'shopped into the sky
  20. Ah, so the list one page 1 is not what is available at launch?
  21. use the class 40, that whistles the same 🤣😈
  22. BRM, I've had both my main layouts featured (one on the front cover) over the years. Summat Colliery was featured in Hornby Mag earlier but Andy Y's pics in the November 2013 BRM were far better. I did speak to Steve Flint about an article about my neverwazza BR standard 2-8-2 at the Nottingham show a while back, he seemed not to care less and only offered a 1 pager. Model Rail snapped it up and thanks to some cracking photos by Chris Nevard alongside my own build shots made a great 4 page article (MR169). Make that of what you will.
