  1. my review will follow the brief given to me by the Brand Content Manager firstly. within that scope, when I get it, I will attempt to outline all aspects of the system using all information to hand at the time of writing. I will certainly not pull any punches within the framework I am given.
  2. I can’t claim too much for the bogies, @apt-e did the majority of the work in Tinkercad, I’ve just run with his original design to make something more like the stock item. I do use Tinkercad for shapes that Builder does not do, like springs and I ended up designing the pan insulators in Tinkercad too. I always import them into Builder though, just prefer it’s interface.
  3. that’s your spin. I appreciate that you are disappointed that your flavour of modelling is not necessarily catered for by the stance that is now being taken by Hornby, but it does not change MY opinion of what the product was originally designed for. Shout as loud as you like from the rooftops it won’t change things.
  4. I’ve always understood this to be the original meaning of tri-mode in the same way that traditional DCC decoders are dual mode unless dc running is disabled. the topic under discussion, that I think was mentioned as an afterthought by Hornby marketing folks that got jumped on by people with traditional DC systems but wanted to dabble with DCC sound. Who knows where we will end up with this, but one thing’s for certain it’s not Hornby’s main drive with the HM7000. They certainly won’t be providing a list of competitors controllers that can be used with their new shiny system. It’s just not the way they operate.
  5. Good point as I’m going to be doing a review for BRM soon and it would be good to have both platforms available to test
  6. First off I'd start by installing MS 3D Builder (if it's not already on a PC you have access to) and have a play. It's a bit of a step to start, but as soon as you get the idea that your models are built up from combining 3d shapes then you should be away. Holes are cut by inserting a suitably sized shape and the using the subtract option. @noiseboy72 got me into MS 3D Builder and now I seem to be unstoppable in producing designs for him to print for me 🤣
  7. these came out great, bare black resin prints, connected to each other and an original Hornby half bogie
  8. Matt Jarvis @noiseboy72 has some very nice black resin that is much more flexible than normal stuff, great for my 3D printed pan bases and APT half bogies 😁
  9. Part number you need is X9459, not currently listed on eBay, Hornby do list it but out of stock. Personally I'd try to clear out the hole where the rivet is and use the old dressmaker's pin and solder method to repair what you have.
  10. I wouldn't recommend any decoder apart from ones supplied by Zimo, ESU or Lenz - no different to my advice for any loco
  11. Pretty certain that's how they are set up, but I will double check 🙂
  12. An odd thing this, last time I used my system before the Mansfield Show in March all was well, but at the show the Procab refused to get past the initial boot phase when plugged into the RHS socket. I did a lot of swapping around with a fellow operators kit and basically my coiled cable and handset worked on his layout, his cable and Procab worked on my layout. When I got home I tried to further diagnose the issue. I had updated the firmware on my Powercab at Christmas, so I put the old chip back, still no joy. I have two coiled cables and two panels, tried every combination of them too. I even put the old firmware chip in the Procab handset which turned it into a Powercab, but that also would not connect to the "proper" powercab. Yes, they all have different cab addresses and I did try switching them around too. Anyone else had something similar? I'm loathed to spend money and it still not working. I'd rather cut my losses and get a Z21.....
  13. Not with NCE equipment, you need an XpressNet compliant system such as Hornby Elite/Select. There may or may not be a project starting with MERG to produce an NCE version of the Legacy Dongle once the dongles are available. EDIT But in any case I would not expect any dongle to work stand alone, it would still need a command station to connect to

  16. Don't forget the pub near the station that has a canal running through it - Those moorings were very popular, as before the relaxing of licencing laws said barges were "resident" so could drink as long into the night as the landlord permitted 😁
  17. pdf watermarks are notoriously easy to remove with the right tools .....
  18. If you have your subscription via Pocketmags they download to your device (Android or Apple) so will be available to you as long as that device functions (or you delete the downloads) A paper copy can be lost in fire or flood, nothing lasts forever 😉
  19. Pocketmags allows you to download 2 pages at a time as a pdf file. Great for saving interesting bits (or my own articles) for posterity etc
