  1. Morning all... Looking to be a sunny day, till the afternoon at least as t-storms may be in the cards by the afternoon. Yesterday was spent mostly on the balcony, with a brief bike tour around the town thrown in for good measure! No need for apologies, Don. Mine can be fairly warped, too!
  2. Or you might become a frequent subject for particularly thorough baggage inspections!
  3. Morning all... Misty this a.m., but looking like it's going to be sunny soon enough. Low risk of showers in the late afternoon, or so I've read. Currently sat here with a cuppa and watching the rabbits doing stuff around the living room. Cheers everyone!
  4. Cab signalling and Indusi data entry module: Class 650 DMU leaving for Kranichfeld:
  5. Morning all... Sunny hereabouts, though rain had been predicted originally. Think I'll get freshened up soon as we'll be on the train later on.
  6. Speaking of dogs, Charlie the beagle is 14 months by now, I think!
  7. Those steamers sure are amazing to look at indeed! I'm particularly fascinated by the feathering wheels' motion, far as you can pick it out when the ship is at speed. The largest ship of the Saxon Steam Navigation fleet is the "Leipzig", at a length of about 228 feet.
  8. Oh, happy birthday, Stewart! How could I (almost) miss that...
  9. Good to see you're back and feeling better, Don!
  10. On the way to Dresden today, we came past a car and bike repair shop which was called "Poser's." I didn't dare take a look at what kind of cars there were in the yard after seeing that sign.
  11. They all have twin cylinder engines and fire tube boilers, some set up as compounds, too. Eight of the nine are oil-fired, with only "Diesbar" having retained coal firing. The latter was built in 1884 and fitted with an engine dating from 1841.
  12. Paddle steamers on the Elbe:
  13. Morning all... Looking dull outside, but the way things look, we'll be doing a trip to Dresden later on. I think this cold I caught is slowly improving, too...
  14. Now that you mentioned gauntlet track, Pete – I know a similar arrangement at Kaufungen: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sechsschienengleis.JPG This route is normally worked by one of Kassel's tram lines, but also sees occasional freight workings. These are routed through the central pair of running rails, while the trams – which are single-ended and have doors on the right-hand side only – use the outer pairs of rails closest to the platforms in either direction. The Gemmenich Tunnel on the German-Belgian border is another such example, where freight trains with oversized loads must use the centre track, which overlaps the left-hand running rail of one of the outer tracks: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:GemmenicherTunnel03.JPG
  15. Morning all... Ed, all the best for your op – I'm sure they'll be able to get you back on your feet. With the heart, I guess there's no such thing as being "too early" for addressing a problem... Weather looking dull here in Leipzig and it appears like it's been raining, actually. I did catch myself a cold after all, but some hot tea and other remedies seem to be helping.
  16. I dare say that there might be numerous German railfans who would like to call them thus!
  17. Locos stabled at Großkorbetha: Four or five Sheds from Freightliner Poland were stood to the other side of the mainline.
  18. Well, it's actually kind of stretching the limits of punning! This type is called Coradia LINT, and since LINT sounds similar to Swiss chocolate maker Lindt...
  19. Shunter at rest at the Opel works in Eisenach:
  20. These units are sometimes called "Chocolates"... Any of you guess why?
  21. Spoil heap: And a black beauty:
  22. Morning all... Welcome back, Sherry! I'll be off to Leipzig in a few hours and will be back by the weekend. Weather's kind of dull at the moment, but expected to remain balmy for the next few days. Talk to you later!
  23. Completely shattered upon coming home from work and collapsed onto sofa for a while. Thankfully, did most of my tidying-up yesterday! Bank holiday tomorrow, too. Apologies for telegraphic style, folks...
  24. Mornin'... Sure could have used another hour of shut-eye. Alas... See you in the afternoon!
