  1. Morning all... Don't think I'll need any breakfast today as I'm still so full from last night's dinner. Which also resulted in some rather bizarre dreams, so I'm feeling a bit off the track right now. Perhaps a cup of coffee or two will help solve this problem... Stu, I'm glad to hear your son's improving. I can imagine life to be rather difficult for him, being so unlike almost all other kids his age – at least going by what I could infer from your description. However, I'm happy to hear he has hobbies which he enjoys!
  2. Morning troops... According to the weather app, we're supposed to have -1.5°C outside, but I prefer not to check for myself just yet and to have some coffee instead. Part 1 of MiL's birthday do has been completed, and Part 2 tonight will see even more guests arriving. I'm glad to see everyone appears to be in good spirit thus far. However, we may well do some shopping in the city this afternoon as SWMBO wanted to look for something or other. Why can't there be as many model shops as there are clothes shops?
  3. Charlie loves to occupy the sofa for his naps:
  4. Well said, Ian. That's exactly why I was referring to ERs as something like a virtual pub that's open 24 hours a day and where you can always find someone to talk things over that bother you.
  5. Morning all... We, too, arrived safely after our road trip yesterday. It's been quite foggy on much of the route, which of course didn't bother too many speeding motorists. Amazing that nothing appears to have happened, though. Aside from an accident on the A38, which but appears to have been caused by flash ice. Phil – glad to hear you're well, too. Deutsche Bahn did have serious problems in the cold months for the past several years , so they promised to step on the toes of the builders they had ordered rolling stock from and make their infrastructure winter-proof. I guess that's what you get when you expect railways to earn a profit for their shareholders and award regional franchises to the cheapest bidders...
  6. Thanks for writing this posting, Andy. You must tell me how you managed to acquire that thick a skin some day, though! I think there's few things in life harder to deal with than haters whose only pleasure in life appears to be harassing people they probably wouldn't have the guts to face in the non-virtual world.
  7. Mornin'... Been running errands in preparation for our trip later today and need to tidy up some before I leave, too. I guess the next time I'll be reporting in will thus be from en route or après l'arrivée. Phil – you have a good trip, too! B)
  8. Ian, I can well imagine Gillian to be anxious in those circumstances, so I guess it really is a lot better to be safe than sorry... I think there really is a limit to how much content that has once been posted on any social network can even be removed from the 'net in the first place. Especially so if the network in question claims the right to using any such content as it sees fit, or if something has already been re-posted elsewhere by other individuals.
  9. Sorry for two postings in a row, but I just wanted to fully and completely second what you wrote, Gordon.
  10. Seeing the abysmal behaviour – verbally or otherwise – of too many motorists around here, I sometimes do wish there were instant punishment systems like the one in Demolition Man!
  11. Maybe something to do with that old Maya prophecy?
  12. Perhaps I should suggest shifting our school's timetable to the afternoon and evening then, also considering what's been going on this Monday!
  13. Morning all... Hazy and freezing outside, so I sure as H won't venture outside just yet. I'll be at uni in the afternoon and as we'll be off to Leipzig from Thursday afternoon till Sunday, we'll also need to pack our suitcase. SWMBO got us a nice (there, I said it ) new suitcase recently because the other ones we have are definitely showing signs of wearing out. Happy Hump Day and talk to you again later...
  14. There've been countless times I'd been wondering about the same thing when I was helping run a forum myself several years ago. There had been a couple of users who'd been at odds with us for several years, in each case due to them having decided that the rules we had set were for fools in the first place. Of course, us enforcing said forum (and common decency) rules apparently only further confirmed their warped belief of us being the bad guys, so it was essentially a vicious circle for all concerned. For me personally, this had eventually resulted in health problems, which I'd certainly not want to repeat ever again. Consequently, I don't think I'd want to join any other forum team for the time being.
  15. Morning all... Mackerel sky and slightly freezing outside, so I'd better stack up on the window defroster fluid for the car. Other than that, I'll need to order a new batch of contact lenses, so will stop by at my optician's for him to check parameters. I'll also be getting my hair cut in the afternoon. At my school, the gym as well as the arts and music rooms require electronic keys to unlock, which are handed out only to teachers for these specific subjects. They are real keys, though, not some passcards. Enjoy your day, everyone...
  16. Happy birthday, Ian! Do enjoy your day, you sure earned it... A colleague told me he often dreams about getting up, freshening up and indeed arriving at school, then to end up puzzled when he wakes up and finds himself still at home!
  17. Mornin'... How weird is that... Just as the alarm went off, I was dreaming I had overslept and was late for work. Any of you ever had something like that? Now on my first of what I am sure will be several cups of coffee and intending to be off at 6.30. Hope y'all get some additional Zs...
  18. Good to hear things have been improving, Jim - at least that's what I understood. Needed to read up on some uni stuff, accompanied by a cup of coffee or two, but I guess I should go easy on that caffeine now. After all, I'll be up at 5 am tomorrow and will need to catch every bit of sleep I can get.
  19. Morning all... Dull again and some patches of fog left from last night. Hope the weather in your place is holding, Pete, even if it's cold – I'm sure none of you will want any more storms for the time being... Other than that, it's pretty calm and I'm just having a cup of coffee.
  20. Any of you remember these shows? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIodlYafwcw Boy, has it really been that long...
  21. So do I . Thanks for posting this, John!
  22. And now it's fogging up outside, too, making our weather miserable enough for me to turn on the lights. On one hand, I have always been quite sensitive to bright light, which I guess must be why my parents could never understand my preferring low light levels even when sat at my desk for homework after nightfall. However, there also is only so much I can stand in the way of dreich weather. I also can well relate to why the rabbits are curling up and dozing, except when feeling like having a snack. When they do, they can be amazingly active! As SWMBO is at work over night, I'll be doing some Chinese style stir-fried chicken with escallion and rice for dinner.
  23. It's no longer only dull outside, but rather turned dreich. I'll certainly avoid having to go outside, save for the unavoidable trip to the supermarket later on. Plenty of old castles up in Scotland which would lend themselves to being the headquarters for a Jedi academy, aren't there?
  24. Morning all! Looking very dull outside again, which is a shame as yesterday turned out to be quite sunny for most of the daylight hours. We did get the heath we wanted for the balcony, too, so while the sun was setting we were taking out the old plants and planting the new ones. It had been almost completely dark when we were done, but we were proud to have got it done! Nothing much on the agenda today, but I'm sure I'll find something.
  25. Good news that, Dave! Tell Archie my regards – hope he'll be his old self again quickly!
