That's an excellent idea David. It'll give consistency. One that I'll certainly take up!

Robin, the 'weight' of the set is apparent both audibly and physically. It's confirmed our view that for 'Balcombe' all our coaching stock will be fitted with Bill B bogies and additional weight added. We will also be using the new stainless Black Beetle wheels which we prefer to AGs which down here suffer from rusting (salty air and all that!).
Years ago at the first RMweb day at Taunton we had 'Matford' setup. Paul Hutfield had a set of Bach Mk1s fitted with BB bogies and BB wheels which he hand pushed at speed up a back siding which was curved, checkrailed and rising and so badly built that nothing of ours would run on it without coming off! His set fair sailed up it as smooth as you like. I was convinced that such a combination was the way to go in the future!

Unfortunately you're right. Mainly Trains did close last year with Dave Cleal's retirement.
Sadly the way of many small firms these days.
Nice looking engine!
John.

Told you that it would be worth waiting for!

A magnificent little beastie! I had the pleasure of seeing it last night at DRAG. Some splendid painting and weathering. You lot just wait and see!
Of particular note was the exceptionally slow 'slug mode' running. Never achievable with the awful spuds!

Indeed the setts are very impressive. It's great to see 'proper' setts being carved instead of using embossed sheets.
I was taught the method by Brian Harrap and l use a pin vice actually using a dressmakers pin in it!
What do you use for the base material?
Great work.
John

Excellent work there!

Good to see some CL action!

Lovely stuff there Al.
Life's too short for me (at my age!) to faff about with all the bells and whistles. 'Normal viewing distance' is my watchword! As a well known reprobate on here always says "if it looks like a Black 5 then it must be one!"

Excellent!

I will have to check out this Noch foliage, it certainly looks the part.
John , sorry it's from 'Heki'. I have difficulty remembering 'Noch' from 'Heki' (and indeed from 'MiniNatur'!). All the best scenic materials come from Germany and also the Czech Republic (Pol

.......Is this the big tree by the level crossing?
Indeed it is Andy!
-
Prey, what is that loco lurking beyond the bridge...?
I don't recall any 56XXs resident on CL......!
-
Excellent work there;.Well done....now there's a certain dock layout that needs some work....!

Thanks Andrew. So would I!

Keep up the slow work Tim. Most excellent. The slower the better as I learnt to my cost!
It's always time to stop when you start fidgeting in the chair!
This sort of work knocks Wills embossed sheet into the long grass. I think that we owe a debt of gratitude to Baron Von Harrap for showing us how!

Splendid work there. I assume that they're scratch built. They will certainly look the business.

...these two examples followed the methods outlined by Gordon Gravett in his recent book,
Yes, Gordon's book is probably one of the best 'instructional' books that I've ever bought. If you want to make trees this book is a must. I adapt his methods to suit myself (as we do in all things modelling).
The kind words are much appreciated, but I'm still learning!

Some fine work there Tom. Particularly as it's in 2mm.

Excellent stuff Tim. I must say you've adopted a solution that I wouldn't have thought of in a month of Sundays!
-
Thanks Dave for your kind words. I do agree about the 'openness' which is essential. Earlier efforts have all been too 'dense'. I think that it's all down to the advice that I got regarding teasing and more teasing of the postiche or whatever is used.
-
Many thanks Mikkel. Most kind, but I can't take all the credit, most of that is down to Gordon's book. Without that to inspire, my efforts would have had the old 'lumpen'look.
Previously to these efforts I used 'adjusted' seamoss (Woodlands & Auhagen) and old dead bonsai trees for armatures. There are other 'weapons' in the arsenal that I have tried or am going to try, like heather (David's Gold variety) as armatures for Lombardy poplars and dried hydrangea flower stalks, etc..

Almost!

You realise that now we all look forward to the visit of a Garratt next........!?
I am still alive, in spite of all.
