  1. Yorkshire area NGS meeting tomorrow. I’ll be making a start on fitting handrails and windows to the 6B.
  2. No…..but I did get an O level in TD.
  3. I’ve made a start on the lighting rig and facia…….my Technical drawing O level came in handy when doing the drawings!
  4. Well…some interesting announcements from Bachmann, nothing for me on the N gauge front this time round……but I’m hoping they announce some more class 47s with the Winter announcement.
  5. The offending photo from the NGS Journal……not sure why I’m gurning in the background!
  6. Miserable day today….so I popped out to get some timber for the lighting and facia…..six battens of three different sizes, two small sheets of 5mm ply, one small sheet of white faced 3mm hardboard, two L brackets and a small box of screws. £70. Ridiculous price for the timber……..but at least it’s currently straight and has no twists……I rejected several packs that I broke open until I found one that was amazingly almost knot free.
  7. Thanks Steven……Yes it was sort of hurried, looks more like my Brother in law is getting it given to him.
  8. I took three of the 6B into work on Saturday, a posed photo on the N gauge diorama. Plus one of the full set at home. The powered DMBS needs lining and numbering, I can then make a start on fitting the bodyside handrails.
  9. I have a photo of a 6L on the West London line, probably on a railtour. They were used extensively by the SR on Merrymaker excursions at the weekends. I’ve been on the them to Leicester and Derby, admittedly these were routed via Kew and Brent. Back in the day we did a Merrymaker to Diss for Bressingham, I think this was also in a Hastings unit. https://zenfolio.page.link/LFbxA
  10. The full six cars together. All bar the power car are lined and numbered., as per unit 1036. The Buffet car has developed a strange lean, which appears to be chassis related and needs some investigation. Just the weathering to do now once the power car is finished off. Then it’s down to getting the mechanism to work!
  11. The Blood and Custard and Sealink varieties arrived too.
  12. Ditto…….decals ordered Sunday and on the door mat on Tuesday.
  13. Looks like the Maroon Mk1 coaches are arriving in York tomorrow.
  14. My supplies from Railtec arrived yesterday, so I carried on adding decals. Most of the lining is complete and a start has been made on other embellishments like 1,s on the numerous doors of the TFK. The second DMBS is largely finished in the paint shop with just the grills to pick out.
  15. The decals came off without too much fuss or damage. The red stripe on one side of the Buffet car was also affected, this reattached whole with some gloss varnish painted on. The TFK also gained some gloss varnish painted on to the cantrails. After reading the instructions with the Railtec decals it actually says avoid Microsol…..add a bit of PVA to the water used for soaking the backing paper. New stripes have been added using this method. I’ll let them dry overnight before doing anything else.
  16. I got a lot of white lining attached to the coaches today. However the Tamiya spray varnish has affected the yellow stripe on the TFK. So much so that I’ll probably have to try and remove it and start again. I’ve not had this happen before. The white lining does not appear to be affected. A trawl through the Interweb this evening seems to point the reason for the reaction between the decal and varnish at the Micro Sol. I’ll post some pictures in the morning.
  17. I’ve managed to dodge a few showers this week, so during the dry spells some progress has been made in the paint shop. Just the TFK a and the powered DMBS to complete. It’s an Yorkshire NGS meeting tomorrow, providing I get a coat of gloss varnish on overnight, I will make a start on adding the white lining decals, coach and set numbers.
  18. Well….in between showers there has been some warm dry spells……..so some paint shop progress has been made. The TFK and the powered DMBS bodies are still being painted.
  19. B**gger all in Brighton, as has been mentioned Train Times in Eastbourne, Gaugemaster at Ford, Squires Tools at Bognor Regis. There is a new model shop in Newhaven…Modelworx….but they don’t do railways…might be OK for paint etc. There used to be a lot of model shops in the area but all except the above have sadly gone.
  20. A busy week this week with work then a trip south to Redhill for a Southern Control retirees reunion. Six of us, with about 220 years of Railway service between us……even so, a bit of progress with the 6B….although as it’s currently pouring down the next stage will have to wait! On a side note, I left Redhill station at 1800 and arrived in York at 2053. not bad for Approx 200 miles.
  21. Something under wraps……until the weather improves.
